  1. Remi Garde not going to waste inspirational speech on these losers 05-01-16 ASTON Villa boss Remi Garde is to save his inspiring words for players who deserve them, it has emerged. The former Lyon boss admitted that attempting to motivate his current squad would be a waste of everybody’s time, unless he motivated them to seek alternative careers. Garde said: “With the right words, almost any player can become a winner, unless that player has ‘Aston Villa’ written on their shirt in impossible-to-erase letters. “I can’t tell them they’re too good to be relegated, because they quite obviously aren’t. Loic Remy, Gokhan Inler and Wahbi Khazri are too good to be relegated, but unfortunately they don’t play for Aston Villa yet. “Once I’ve bought them, I’ll tell them how their heroics will lift not just a stadium but a whole city. I’ll tell them how children will be named after them, how statues will be cast in bronze outside Villa Park, how they’ll never have to pay for a drink in this town for as long as they live. “But why would I say something like that to someone like Joleon Lescott? It’d be like pouring premium-grade petrol into a wheelie bin.” http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/remi-garde-not-going-to-waste-inspirational-speech-on-these-losers-20160105105025
  2. Seems about time to bump this thread.....
  3. In the unlikely event that we got 12 points from the next 4 games - I think we would probably be the form team in the league and would probably be within 3 points of being outside of the relegation zone. i,e. we would be right back in the mix. I'm not saying I believe, and I'm not saying we will win the next 4 games, I'm just saying that if we did, we would in form and within touching distance with plenty of games to play. Confidence is a massive factor. And if we sign Messi and Ronaldo in January we'll be better going forward. About as likely as us winning 4 games in a row. I can't see us winning four games in the rest of the season.
  4. Sherwood was right when he said we wouldn't be in a relegation fight this season. We just misunderstood how he meant it.
  5. In fairness, had we gone for the win we'd probably have ended up with no points. A point is a small step forward. I don't think points are enough, but I'm not expecting miracles either. Garde, and the team, are making steps in the right direction, although they are small steps. I've accepted he won't be able to keep us up now, so credible draws or going all out for wins is all academic really.
  6. No offence taken! I don't think we've seen the game very differently. Perspectives differing slightly as you still retain the ability to be optimistic and see some positives. My ability to do that has been shattered.
  7. Absolutely, I'm by no means saying I expected us to win, or that anyone is at fault that we didn't. But if we're going to stay up (and I don't think we will) we're going to have to get some wins that we've no right to expect. Today may have been half a chance to get one of those. A draw is a huge improvement, but a miracle is what we actually need.
  8. It's a very creditable draw, away from home, against a good side. But draws just aren't enough in our position.
  9. Why did we have to go ahead? Now I'll feel some disappointment when the inevitable happens, whereas before it was comfortably expected.
  10. We need 7. We'll be lucky to get 4.
  11. They're already in a totally different league to us. We might all technically be in something marketed as the Premier League but half the teams in it have been playing in another league at another level for years.
  12. With the professional approach and attitude he's shown lately I'll don't think people will be beating the door down to take him away. For another thread, but it takes more than talent alone to succeed in the modern game.
  13. Richardson and Lescot have plenty of premier league experience between them but have probably been our worst players. How many games have those two plus Guzan, Richards, Clark, Hutton, Westwood and Gabby played between them? I think we have enough Premier League experience, it's quality and fight that we're lacking.
  14. I get the hype because I think he has talent. However, we've seen time and time again that talent isn't enough. You've got to have the right stuff mentally, the drive and determination and all those things to succeed and I increasingly worry that he doesn't have those. A spell out of the team may do him good at the moment.
  15. I'm going to go ahead and say it... That wasn't very good.
  16. Rode our luck at the end, but we're well overdue some luck. Clean sheet, stopped the run of losses, looked organised, never panicked even when Man City stepped up a gear, already looking more confident and that result will only give us more. Yes Man City were the better a team, but they are a better team! They didn't look 20 places better today.
  17. We look like an actual football team, and apart from the lack of a shot (which granted in quite important) we look like quite a good one. It's very confusing.
  18. Where the **** hell did that come from??!
  19. I've just put the football on and there is a good team playing against Man City right now. No idea who they are.
  20. I like it. Gabby and Westwood not even in the squad is a bit of a surprise but we need changing and Remi's gone for it. Not thrilled to see N'Zogbia in the squad but looking forward to seeing this team today.
  21. Reality has hit home with Newcastle's win today? The Newcastle game was a good result for us. Newcastle won't go down this season, but there is a high chance Bournemouth will. It's Bournemouth we need to see getting 0 points from games like that.
  22. If Chelsea hadn't have got that win against us, Mourinho would be gone by now. We've kept him in the job.
  23. And Gary was long regarded as the better of the two Gardners. But only one is playing regular football. (Not that I don't rate Jordan.)
  24. I don't care who plays, so long as there is a plan to it.
