  1. It would be an interesting question, but it would have to be quite a narrow margin to swing on Gibraltar and expats. Scotland are still part of the UK, whether they want to be or not, so "legitimatly" allowed to swing it. Might make a few Brexiters wish they'd voted for independence though!
  2. Yes, AV was resoundingly rejected, but that is only one alternative. There are still a lot of people about that would want a change to FPTP, but not want AV. But the AV rejection will be used to kill of any debate of this for a long time.
  3. Let's hope Gibraltar result is replicated throughout UK
  4. I certainly think we need a system where every vote counts, every time. No point going over old arguments now, but I still find it strange how many Brexiters argue for leaving because the EU is undemocratic, while (in many, not all, cases) being unconcerned about our own system (Lords, safe seats, FPTP, monarchy).
  5. I was hoping to get a load of work done overnight while waiting for results, until I dropped my laptop down the stairs
  6. The polling station is a 30 second walk and even today no queue, so not too much effort. If that wasn't the case then I'm not sure I'd always bother (add in the safe seat factor). Does really give anything, and certainly doesn't achieve anything. Just gives me the knowledge that I have participated in some sense, and I can confidently say my lack of a vote is not apathy or laziness.
  7. I always get annoyed by the "don't vote, can't complain" statements. I'very spoiled my paper quite a few times, so technically not voted. Doesn't mean I'm apathetic or lazy, it means I expect better from all sides.
  8. I only say it wouldn't pass parliament without clear public support because it isn't something a majority of politicians want. If it was good for them, they wanted it, they'd do it and did the public will. They would only pass it if they felt they had no choice in this case.
  9. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any legally binding reason to have a referendum. But parliament would never pass a vote to leave unless endorsed by the public. The EU still has massive cross party support.
  10. Cameron started out trying to placate the Eurosceptics in his own party and nullify the threat to the Tories from ukip. For him it's all been about his own position and keeping the Tories in power. It has back fired spectacularly as whatever happens they will be more divided than ever. He is yet another career politician with no principles, only looking out for his own power .
  11. I agree with what you've said, I don't think the outcome will be well accepted whatever the result. I've also been very unimpressed with Cameron, despite being on the same side for once *shudder* But I do have to ask, why single out Cameron? Do you think Boris , Gove and Farage have behaved any better?
  12. Just voted, polling station quite busy already. Refreshing to feel my vote actually counts for a change. Living in a safe seat, at general election time I know I'm wasting my time voting (I do it anyway). Today , even though I know my vote will be one of few in votes in that ballot box, it will still count.
  13. Just glad it's almost over. Remainer or Brexier, I think we'll pretty much all agree the way the campaigns have been fought have showcased the very worst of British politics.
  14. I bet it also says Turkey are set to join the EU? Is it the one Nissan are taking legal action against?
  15. I wouldn't sign anyone based on international performances. They too often have no relation to how the player will perform week in / week out. How often has Sanchez looked good for Columbia?
  16. Annoyed that the BBC are only showing the Iceland game on red button, as mine keeps buffering and jumping. I'd they couldn't show it properly, it should have been given to ITV.
  17. I agree that this is something worthy of more debate. The way the CAP used to be structured (10+ years ago) certainly was damaging to the developing world, but it has been restructured to address that, as well make it workable with an enlarged EU. I'd be the first to admit I couldn't go into any details on that restructuring. Even the most ardent remainder (such as myself) will have gripes with aspects of the EU. The CAP subsidies is one of mine. But none of these problems come close to being a case for leaving, we need to stay in and make it better. In terms of exports to India, it is a low cost manufacturing country, surrounded by other low cost manufacturing countries, with which is has trade agreements through SAARC and others. This means we'll never be at a competitive advantage foelr many types of mass produced goods or foods (in or out of the EU). I don't imagine Luxembourg has much manufacturing and must import a lot of products . There will of course be other factors in play, but that's the explanation that springs to mind for me.
  18. He was injured for much of the season, and I think when he played there was a feeling he couldn't quite step up to the PL. But by most accounts it seems he's excellent at Championship level, which is where we are and what we need. Bournemouth need PL players.
  19. It's not necessarily to do with intelligence, it's about whether people are informed enough to make a sound decision. I consider myself reasonably intelligent, but I wouldn't be informed enough to make a decision on, for example, on an energy production strategy for the country. The press has been hostile to the EU for years, the campaigns (both sides) have been full of hyperbole, outright lies, questionable statistics and imaginative scenarios. Often, those that have tried to show something a little more balanced (the BBC for one) have dumbed down complex issues so much that it is unhelpful . Against that background many intelligent individuals, with the capacity to understand the debate, still don't have the information needed to make an informed choice.
  20. I think I've figured it out. I'm guessing in Wakes region Wales game shown on ITV 1. HD only available on ITV, so to give everyone choice of game, but also opportunity to watch home nation in HD, need to show twice. Still seems overkill, but guess it's the reason.
  21. Why are ITV showing the same game on 2 channels? May be a perfectly logical explanation, but seems very strange to me.
  22. Correction accepted. I should have said cretin, scum bag or evil b*st*rd.
