  1. I like Cantwell a lot, it just seems like if we sign two of Norwich’s attack then we can’t offer THAT much more than Norwich did… if that makes sense… I know the other players are a hole in that logic!
  2. Mail is a fascist rag but spends more on its sport department than anyone so the journalists are not as pathetic as most.
  3. Auba I think it’s age. He’s 32 now and he’s lost a yard. Lacazette I’m less convinced. Has been in the PL since 2017 and never once scored as many as Watkins did last season. That’s why I think Tammy will score a bunch of goals from them - he’ll do exactly what those two have not been doing for a while.
  4. Yeah but of those only Tammy is actually any good these days. Nketiah has potential of course but unproven. Auba and Lacazette have been poor for a while and they will want to shift at least one of them.
  5. Very good on London-based stuff over the years (Evening Standard) - no idea of overall transfer rumour success or of his sources etc but he’s not one to just make stuff up based on nothing.
  6. We would have Bailey or Jack who could play on the left. Jack and Buendia who could play central. Buendia and Bailey who could play on the right. And that’s without even thinking about Traore, AEG, Young or Carney and other youth. I’m actually perfectly happy with our attacking midfield now but the above would be a pretty exceptional lineup.
  7. Buendia will play on the right or central. The one place I think he definitely won’t play is on the left.
  8. We did this with the likes of Gueye, Gollini etc who have gone on to win league titles and multiple international caps. The issue is we don’t give them time. And the challenge is we have usually needed immediate results (to avoid relegation or get promotion) so haven’t been able to give them time. It’s why Brentford’s recruitment model may now fall down. You’re right that when safely ensconced in the middle of the table and with a fairly solid squad that’s when you can gamble a little and I do think we are approaching that now.
  9. Different strokes for different folks isn’t it. I can think neither of those would be the right signing for us while also acknowledge they’ll probably get Arsenal top six so I can regret them going there.
  10. I don’t particularly think we should sign Tammy but if he goes to Arsenal - who DON’T have Watkins - he’ll play every game as centre forward and score 20+ goals.
  11. Or the club might think “he isn’t just yet but a year from now he could be if he plays half the games this season and we think he will develop more doing that here than on loan so let’s gamble on him.” We just don’t know their plans or how players are doing - it’s exciting to think one or two might break through. I wouldn’t mind the gamble at a time when our forward line (with Emi added in) are all quality international players.
  12. Think people worrying about Collymore are reading too much into it. He’s saying Jack won’t move anywhere to be a sub/rotation player. That’s good for us. Not that I think he has any clue of course.
  13. I have no beef in this discussion and agree Leicester are a few years ahead of us but I don’t think you can quite compare Barnes, who wasn’t a regular starter before this season and was still far from a certain name on the teamsheet any week despite his talent (and I personally think he’s class), with Jack Grealish who has been our unquestioned star player for multiple seasons. But yeah agree Leicester are the model we need to aspire to, weird as that still sounds to say.

    Matty Cash

Just needs to cut out the number of stupid freekicks/pens he gives away and add a bit more going forward and he’ll be the perfect right back. Amazing how many good RBs there are around right now that he’s only 7th or 8th in the England pecking order because he has so much potential
  15. Relevant when people are writing off other 21-year-olds we are linked to as not being good enough I suppose, rather than thinking about their future potential, but agreed we wouldn’t be talking about it if we had a nice juicy rumour to be excited about!
  16. We give up on players too quickly, issue #3683628
  17. We will get this every summer for the rest of his career if he stays with us. Same as it happened every summer for Le Tissier (in fact nonstop as it was pre windows), every summer for Totti, etc. If you have a player this good it never stops whatever you achieve - even Man United or Real Madrid etc lose players or their best players are linked with moves. Actually you kind of have to hope it starts happening with more of our players because it will show they are catching the eye.
  18. Position on this the same as earlier in the summer - think he’ll be a cracking player but wouldn’t pay £40m+ for him and Burnley will want more than that. The Downing comparison a few posts ago was meant as an insult but probably accurate in terms of style of play, but more to his game defensively than SD ever had.
  19. Yeah I’m not desperate for us to sign Tammy but I think it’s more that if we hadn’t had him before people would dismiss the idea of us being able to get him than us having had him before making him a nostalgia signing… I would guess he’ll go to Spurs to replace Kane.
  20. You just get into definitions here though. I’d always describe Salah and Mane as strikers. Not traditional #9s but every bit as much a striker as, say, Thierry Henry or later-era Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s not like us popping Grealish up front (not that you’re suggesting it is) - whereas City do play that actually strikerless way sometimes.
  21. He was a few years younger to be fair and lots of injuries if I remember right. Hadn’t realised how many games he’s played for Portugal since (and don’t follow French football at all so haven’t really noticed him establishing himself at Lille).
  22. I didn’t stop playing but I always remember a man, must have been about 30, snarling at me “I’ll break your legs” in my first season of adult football… I literally said back to him dumbfounded “I’m 15” and he said “I don’t care.” You’re right, some total filth out there.
  23. Just saw Leeds have released Alioski which seems a weird one. Thought they loved him there. I’d have had him as back up left back but not sure we need that now we have Young back in the squad. Edit: Ah just saw they didn’t want him to go but Galatasaray doubled his wages on a pre-contract.
  24. I’ll field this one: nothing has happened, journos likely chatting shit whatever their angle, Jack having what I imagine is a lovely break in Greece.
