  1. I understand, I guess I see it as trying to reinstate a social order, they're not looking to maintain the prevailing societal conditions based on free markets, deregulation, privatisation and reductions in public spending - for me that makes them radical and if not socialist by definition, socialist by direction. I guess whether or not they're conservative in trying to maintain something might be down to whether you believe that thing still exists. Anyway, I think we're arguing on definitions and semantics and, in the spirit of the new age, I reserve the right to define those things in any way that suits me.
  2. That being true (and it is) I'd therefore have to disagree with the suggestion that the Green Party are conservative with either c.
  3. I think I agree with them on this - I think it's also worth pointing out that whilst you can describe these as conservative rather than radical ideas, they're also very much ideas from the left and a reflection of left wing socialist ideology.
  4. I thought that was a penalty on Costa Wolves have had a couple of chances to double the lead.
  5. Oops Liverpool. Lambert will shut up shop for the last 89 minutes.
  6. And I think this is the issue for both the Green Party and Labour - I'm essentially a socialist, I voted Green at the last election because Labour weren't a socialist party (and in spite of their ecological policies) - I was excited by Corbyn and the promise of bringing that Labour party back, but he hasn't succeeded in changing the party and the internal fight, coupled with a hostile media and the fact that he's a bit scruffy looking means he won't ever be effective as a vote winner. The Greens won't be effective either, because, well, because they're the Greens and they're just mad environmentalists innit. There's a massive gap in the political landscape for a party that can effectively deliver a message that I believe the majority of the British people support.
  7. I don't see those things as necessarily in opposition - the EU is a mess, that gives it a little flexibility - it supports both the idiocy of trickle down economics and Friedman's monster but at the same time is open to progressive steps on things like protection of labour and nationalised industries - the EU is more left wing than the UK government, that's one of the reasons that there's a move to break it up.
  8. https://policy.greenparty.org.uk/ec.html The Greens are essentially a socialist party - they're against the prevailing economic global regime and directly in opposition to the Washington Consensus and by extension right wing thought. The want to restore the private sector, impose regulation on the corporate and banking sphere and end austerity. Am I reading them wrong? I'm not sure how they can be seen as Conservative?
  9. That's an interesting perspective - I also think a stronger, larger green movement would be a good thing - but I think the reasoning is the opposite - Corbyn is failing to turn the Labour party into an effective left wing party with populist policies and people are becoming disillusioned and turning to a Green Party that already have those policies in place - the Green Party is more left leaning than the Labour party in most areas.
  10. May has refused to rule out opening up the NHS to US corporations today as part of her desire for a trade deal.
  11. Now, I'm sorry, I'm quoting myself again and I know that this is more than a little bit saddoes corner, but...we're now unbeaten at home in thirteen games from the start of the season - and it occurred to me that the 1990-91 season included some cup games; I wondered if we were near equalling it in unbeaten league games. Turns out it included six cup games, which means in terms of a home league start, we've already exceeded it. In fact, this is our longest unbeaten home start to a league season in 56 years. That's way back to the 1959-60 season, when we were unbeaten at home in our first 14 games and only lost once at home all season. I'm very much hoping that we can beat Ipswich in the next one so that I can scramble through the record books to see if we've ever managed fifteen home league games unbeaten from the start of a season. I don't get out much and no one at work will listen to me about this, so I'm telling you. Is anyone gambling savvy able to tell me what odds you'll get on us going the whole season unbeaten at home?
  12. Alternatively. The US has attempted to engineer a coup in a key Russian ally and left a far fight near neo-nazi government in place, forcing the Russians to take control of part of the country in an attempt to restore order and defend its borders from a US economic monster, pushing the Washington consensus and eating nations in the East since promising Gorbachev they wouldn't if he gave them East Germany back. That didn't even happen during the cold war and fundamentally changes the European security environment for the worse. China has decided to militarise it's naval borders against the gathering of the largest naval force in history - sent there as an intimidatory measure by the US who are encircling it with bases, missiles and troops - many of it's neighbours are being bullied into tooling up to suit US aims, most notably Japan. American is not going to start pulling back in these areas - and they aren't going to do it alone - it's too expensive - they'll need their allies to ensure that taxpayers in other nations contribute to the US efforts by buying arms from US companies. On top of that, there is political, diplomatic and military strategy and division of labour to sort out - why on earth they'd involve us in those discussions is a bit of a mystery to me though, I'd imagine we just get our instructions in an envelope along with some information on where we should send the money. Washington cares about May's opinion on these matters like Manchester United care about Great Barr Falcons.
  13. I'd spend several hours pondering how anyone could hate Michael Stipe. I suspect it'd then be too late for a jigsaw and a bottle of wine. Damnit.
  14. I hope he's a rind for a long time, at Barnsley he often rennet out of the defence comfortably and even though he might need to be introduced Caerphilly by Bruce, I think edam well feta think of him as our future in the position given the outlay, if not, I think he's emmental. Have I done enough?
  15. I think either: ----------------------Johnstone-------------------- Hutton/Bree*---Chester-------Baker------Amavi ------------------------Jedinak-------------------- Adomah----Lansbury-----Hourihane---Bjarnason -------------------------Kodjia----------------------- Or ----------------------Johnstone-------------------- Hutton/Bree*---Chester-------Baker------Amavi Adomah----Lansbury-----Hourihane---Bjarnason ---------------Kodjia-----Agbonlahor-------------- Bree/Hutton will come down to whether the boy is ready and Gabby will find his place in a 4-4-2 under threat by Mr 50% I think. What's brilliant is that against Preston, there was no one on the bench that I thought, "If we bring him on we've got a chance" Our bench for the next game could be: Bunn, Bree/Hutton, Elphick, Grealish, Bacuna, Green, Ayew, Agbonlahor/Jedinak That's a whole lot of options for the manager. This weeks signings are filling me with what I presume must be optimism.
  16. I would be amazed if he's not a Villa player very soon.
  17. Here's an interesting article on the policy direction of the Trump administration from Naomi Klein. https://theintercept.com/2017/01/24/get-ready-for-the-first-shocks-of-trumps-disaster-capitalism/ This sort of policy is always unpopular with your average voter in the street - that's why it's necessary to wait for disasters, or occasionally to generate disasters, or it would appear, to pay a man with stupid hair to point at someone and say "She's fat" so no one notices.
  18. I think the delay is down to some illness in the boardroom at Barnsley. I have a good feeling about this one.
  19. To make a four with a player who got two in his last game.
