    Gym Routine

I went to the gym the other day and there was a jacked meatwad on the bench next to me who'd throw his dumbbells onto the ground every time he finished a set. Not just drop them, but throw them. There was directionality involved. This guy could crush my skull with his bare hands, mind you. I asked him, "Is there any reason you're throwing your weights?" He said, "I like it. It's easier for me. Is it bothering you?" I said, "It just seems a bit...excessive." I think he was trying to decide whether or not to crush my skull with his bare hands, but he eventually decided to rack the weights back up and walk over to the treadmills. I'd had half a mind to say, "Well, then maybe you should use lighter weights," or, "I just thought I should let you know you're being 'that guy'," but if I had, I might not be writing you right now. I may go to the gym, but man, I can't stand gym guys.

    Running

I've been struggling to get back into fitness since a calf injury this summer. But I just bought a couple new pairs of trail shoes and I've been hitting the trails and enjoying the fall weather and it's making a big difference. I see people moving indoors to treadmills already and I can't fathom how they do it. This is when it really starts to get nice. It's been incredibly rainy out lately and I've put these though a pretty brutal initiation and they've held up brilliantly.
  3. I think history will look back at the early 21st century as "when America stopped winning". And it has absolutely nothing to do with our current president.
  4. They played up my way last weekend, and I was desperate to see them, but couldn't make it happen. Been a bit gutted about that all week, even more so now. Last minute decision, one of the best. Certainly one of the best gigs I've been to in the last decade or so I think. EDIT: Sorry not trying to rub it in I really regret not travelling to see them several years ago when they played about an hour away from me. I was trying to be judicious with my finances and I totally blew it. I've since learned from my mistake. I drove to Toronto this past weekend to see Deafheaven and Envy and I'm glad I made the trip.

    Running

Yikes! I've had some close brushes, but I've never actually had a collision while running. Well, I slid across the hood of a slowly-moving car once in Prague, but there was no damage to either me or the car. You rest up and take care of yourself.
  6. There's a new Dan Carlin episode up on the Achaemenid Persian Empire. That is all.
  7. I've been on a pretty huge black metal kick lately and I don't see an end to it in sigh...oh, hey! New Grimes!

    New manager

I'm up to speed on the thread. It just seems that your contentions were meant to idly refute a point rather than to contribute anything. What bearing should how long Gus Poyet was at Sunderland have on our search for a manager who is not Gus Poyet? What bearing should the fact that there have been five French managers in the Premier League have on our consideration of Rémi Garde? That's the question I was asking.

    New manager

Theirs only been five french managers in the premier league. Poyet lasted 524 days at sunderland. I'm not quite sure what these random statistics have to do with anything.

If the Garde rumours are true—looking forward to the appointment, not looking forward to the puns.

    New manager

Jurgen? Klopp you mean?... Klinsman Nope. I feel like people who mention Klinsmann are just picking a sexy name. If this club were to hire Klinsmann, we'd just be getting another Sherwood. He's put the United States national team in a similar position to Villa, demonstrated that he suffers from many of the same weaknesses as Sherwood, and is absolutely not what the club need going forward. He would bring further instability and further excuses. If there's going to be an American in the frame, it'll be Bradley, and he would offer a cohesive and coherent, if slightly unsexy, plan for the immediate future and convey it to the team in such a manner that each player would know exactly what was expected of him and how to implement it.
  12. I don't like Moyes, I think he is overrated, dour, and dull, as is his football. I much prefer Sherwood's character and, when he employs it, his attacking philosophy, but I think the only Manager in my mind who has even half a chance of giving those in the side who have some bottle a way of developing it is indeed Moyes. Maybe also Pearson, who I similarly don't like. So if we get rid, and for the reasons above I think we should( reluctantly), it should be for one of them. I think they need to rip it up entirely. For me, I would love someone like SAN MARCO BIELSA. Not saying they have the wit or ability to get him mind. But let's go loco! I think we've already tried "loco": that's what got us our current manager.
  13. Klinny? Klinsmann is the exact same thing we've got right now—a charismatic (read: cocky and arrogant) manager supporters have turned on for seeming to lack any coherent and effective plan going forward, talking nonsense to the media and making claims they seem completely incapable of backing up on any level, and destabilizing the team and throwing players under the bus when the results don't go the right way. Bradley would offer something completely different to Sherwood—almost the polar opposite—but Jürgen would be a like-for-like appointment.
  14. Going to try to get up to Toronto to see Deafheaven and Envy in a couple of weeks. I've seen them each before, but not in years, and both bands together makes for a killer bill.
  15. 29/30. I missed Montenegro.
  16. For what it's worth, I think Bradley would offer exactly what we're lacking as a team and lacking in a manager. He's passionate, committed, detail oriented, and regardless of what people might say, he's tested himself at a high level (Confederations Cup Final, World Cup Finals, winning the group ahead of England). He's the anti-Sherwood. He doesn't run his mouth, he leads by example. He's deliberate. The first thing he'd do is come up with a clear plan that he could articulate to the people around him. People would understand what was expected of them. Players would understand their role. He'd bring stability and common vision to a team that is sorely lacking in that department.
  17. Totally. I mean, I don't know what it means, but it's totally cool to say it.

    Chelsea

Lately, people have been getting pretty good at the Google.
  19. I like Robyn more than any heterosexual male has any business liking Robyn. But seriously, this groove is nonstop.
  20. The moodier Editors are, the more I tend to like them.
