    I don’t think MGW cost anywhere near that much - closer to 25m - and he’s actually quite a good player. You might be right. Signing players from abroad is certainly a lot cheaper but carries a risk. Gordon at 30m too much..?

    Because he’s our record signing and Argentinian. I think people are desperate for him to do well, and that’s fine, but they’re letting that cloud their judgment. He’s really not that good and easily the weak link along with Bailey almost every single week. Whether people want to admit it or not, he’s going to drop to the bench as soon as we sign another wide player because no way Ramsey is being dropped.

    They really do, but that’s symptomatic of having a really s*it team that loses all the time. I honestly don’t know if he’s any good, but he’s always played fairly well when I’ve watched him and he’s got age on his side.

    I think this is exactly what’s going to happen. The question is, will it happen now or in the Summer… He has some the ability, I think, but he’s miles off it at times. For us to go where we want to, I’m going to bite the bullet and say he isn’t quite good enough I’m afraid. I questioned his attitude a lot last year and at times earlier in the season but I actually think that isn’t the issue at all. Just not sure he’s cut out for this league. Hope he proves me wrong.

    Well, yes, but they’ve always survived because others have been docked points below them. That isn’t happening this season. A couple more losses and they’re bang in trouble. They have Deeney and Hogan up front for christs sake. One of them can’t run, and the other, whilst making lots of clever runs, is fu****g shit.

    If we could get a decent wide player and a better forward player, Luiz and Kamara would look even better. A lot of the time they recycle the ball or play in a good pass to the wide/forward players and they just mess it up.

    Hugely, hugely unlikely we’d get anyone like Sterling on loan but I actually think Sterling is an underrated player. I think he’s very good and as a second striker, no.10 type, he’d be brilliant here. Not happening in a million years though.

    It was smart and it was bloody obvious. Why are you so worried about a second choice striker when we’re out of both cups and our main striker has a phenomenal injury record? We needed those wages off the books and this window was arguably the only chance we had to get a fee for an ageing striker who really doesn’t offer all that much. Worst comes to worst, we’re a few points worse off at the end of the season and Bailey has to play up there should Watkins get injured. The alternative is either keep Ings and have him collect millions over the next 18 months or get rid now, get a fee and put that money toward a striker either now or in the summer. We should never have signed the bloke. It was massive money for a player who had very little resale value, has a questionable injury record and who didn’t fit the system we were playing whatsoever. He was bought to cushion the blow of Grealish leaving and we were awash with money at the time. He comes across as a top bloke and a top professional, but I’m not at all sad to lose him. We need to push on. He isn’t the future.

    A point would probably be a good result and continues our recent run of good form since Emery joined. I know we’re not going to get relegated but part of me is always looking behind Villa in the table and wanting to get to 38 points to make sure we definitely don’t go down. A point here helps us keep that buffer. That said, we definitely should be looking to win this game.

    Would probably be one of Dembele or Thuram. Hopefully we can sign Guendouzi, Thuram and Deulofeu in this window…

    Wouldn’t bother me one bit if we didn’t ‘replace’ Ings until the summer. Watkins has a really good injury record (he’s fit for tomorrow) and Ings only really plays when he’s not fit. He was a decent enough option but he was always playing second fiddle.
