Descent race.

I'd definitely watch a descent race. Much more exciting than the current F1 tedium. :P

Not sure about that but I do like a good Pikes Peak :D

SPANISH Formula One test driver Maria de Villota, one of the few women to come near to competing at the top of the sport, has been found dead in a hotel in the southern Spanish city of Seville.

De Villota, 33, lost her right eye and fractured her skull in a horrific accident at a straight-line test at Duxford airfield in England in July 2012. She recovered from life-threatening injuries but no longer competed.

"We are assuming it was a natural death, but we cannot confirm anything," a police spokeswoman said, adding that forensic scientists and police from the homicide unit were to examine the scene.

De Villota was appointed test driver for Anglo-Russian Formula One team Marussia last year, before her crash. However she never took part in a general test with other drivers.

Only a handful of women have driven Formula One cars in the last decade and none has come near to racing one in competition.

So yet again Webber gets stiffed by Red Bull in favour of Vettell.

The only reason Webber didn't win that race was because he got stuck behind Grosjean. Vettel is faster than Webber so he made his strategy work better. Sometimes I think people think Webber should be the triple world champion and it's only that pesky kid on the other side of the garage that has foiled him :lol:

Inane stat of the day. Works Mercedes have yet to come 2nd in a race this season. That despite winning three races and being in the top five 18 times.

If Sauber (7th in WCC) keep going the way they're going at present, McLaren (5th) need to be a bit careful in the WCC.

Going into Japan it was billed as a '5 race season' between Toro Rosso and Sauber equal on 31pts. This, despite the fact that in the preceding 3 races, Sauber had outscored STR 24pts to 6pts. In Japan they outscored them 14pts to zero and they're now hunting down Force India who scored one solitary point during the same period. There are 17pts between Sauber & Force India with 4 races left. One race could wipe that out. In the past 5 races the aggregate is 38pts to 3pts in favour of Sauber. They should catch Force India although tbf to FIFI they're on an atrocious run that they could come out of.

But going back to McLaren. Sauber are 38pts behind them with 4 races to go. You'd think McLaren should be safe and it would definitely be a bit of a stretch to catch them, but it's not outside the realms of possibility and the Hulk is hot right now.

You know what really grinds my F1 gears?

Underhand team orders.

Not the ones where they say 'let him pass'. No I like those. They are legal and they should be used and heard by the fans and whether the fans like it or not, they should learn to accept that as a team sport this has happened since day dot.

No, the ones I'm on about are those like the ones Ferrari used on Sunday when they said to Massa "Multifunction strategy A. Multifunction strategy A. Now please". Are you ashamed you are using team orders? Do you like treating the fans like idiots? It would be different if it was an instruction coded to protect them from other teams' strategies but this was transparent, so it wouldn't fool other teams nor would it disadvantage Ferrari in any way or bring them in front of the authorities. The only reason for doing it was to not lose face to their fans in the stupid assumption that the fans wouldn't know what was going on. Piss off, it's not like everyone doesn't already know you are the greatest exponents of team orders in the pitlane already anyway. Just man-up and stop trying to pull the wool.

Racing driver Sean Edwards killed in Porsche crash in Australia

The British driver Sean Edwards has been killed in an accident during a private test at Queensland Raceway in Australia. The 26-year-old was in a Porsche 996 as a passenger when it hit the barriers at the circuit on Tuesday. He had been leading the drivers' championship of the Porsche Supercup series, all of the races for which take place at Formula One events.

Edwards is understood to have been killed instantly when the car left the track and impacted with tyre wall on the outside of turn six at the track in Ipswich, 25 miles west of Brisbane. The driver was extracted from the wreckage, which caught fire, by emergency services and was taken to intensive care with life-threatening injuries.

It is understood it took three hours to remove the driver from the car. Inspector Dave Preston of Queensland police said it had been a difficult operation to get the men out of the mangled wreckage: "The fire and rescue had to do extensive work in relation to extracting and opening the vehicle up sufficiently to remove him. He was trapped for some time."

The driver, who has yet to be named, was a 20-year-old Brisbane man. His family were understood to be trackside at the time and were distraught. He was pinned from the waist down in the wreckage for three hours after the crash took place at 11.30am, after which he was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Edwards was the son of Guy Edwards who competed in Formula One and the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the 1970s and 1980s and was one of the drivers who helped remove Niki Lauda from his burning car at the 1976 German Grand Prix.

Edwards himself had won the European GT3 Championship in 2006 and gone on to race in the FIA GT Championship, the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans 24 hours and the Porsche Supercup and Porsche Supercup Germany series.

He had been having a very successful year. Having won the Dubai 24 Hours last year he did so again in 2013 and was also a winner for the Black Falcon team at the Nürburgring 24 this year and took the Long Beach round of the American Le Mans series in the GTC class.

Racing for the Allyouneed by Project 1 team in this year's Porsche Supercup, he had victories in Spain, Monaco and Hungary and was leading the championship by 18 points with two races at Yas Marina due to have taken place on 2-3 November.

He had also recently been taking part in the making of the film Rush, recounting the 1976 F1 battle between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, advising on the racing scenes and in some parts portraying his father.

The crash comes just five months after another death at Queensland Raceway. In June a 23-year-old motorbike rider was killed when he hit the back wheel of another rider.

I saw that too.... absolutely shocking. Sprawled out on the track legs twisted all over the place still strapped to his seat....crazy.

It was more to do with the fact that Webber was one of only 5 drivers who had a 3rd change of tyre when compared to SVs 2.

 

Red Bull knew that there was no chance that Webber would conceed to Vettell through team orders so chose to make sure that Vettell got passed him on pit stops.

Vettell did 3 more laps on the first tyre and 9 more on the second, only Rosberg managed less laps on his 2nd set of tyres than Webber did.

Red Bull said that Webber was wearing his tyres out much quicker than Vettel and that based on his first stop (and the condition of the tyres from that first stint) they moved him to a 3 stopper. You are right that there is room for a conspiracy to say that the shift in strategy put Vettel ahead on the road. But the reason that doesn't hold up to scrutiny is the fact that if Grosjean had not managed to keep Webber behind him when Webber initially caught him, Webber would have breezed past Vettel to win.

Anderson even says what I said above in the article you quoted. Had Webber passed Grosjean he would or could have caught Vettel. As for the lead car getting the 'better' strategy. That only applies if all things are equal. If you believe that Webber was using his tyres up more quickly than Vettel then not all things are equal and it becomes sensible to put that car on the strategy that has more fresh rubber. And it would have worked for Mark too if he was better at overtaking.
