And THAT sent me back to THIS:

Like the two parts, but not together.

Nikolayeva (who inspired Shostakovich to start and finish the cycle) or Melnikov for me.

On the subject of piano work this is my favorite concerto and favorite performance. Brahms 2nd is essentially a symphony (it even has 4 movements) with piano obligato. Zimmerman at his finest, Vienna Phil during a glorious era and Bernstein on the podium. Pretty much unbeatable.

It was available on laserdisc at one point!

Bohuslav Martinu - 'Works Inspired By Jazz And Sport'

If you liked the Shostakovich Jazz album you might like this?

It's an even more mixed bag. Fun chamber pieces, symphony and promenade orchestra material and a composition dedicated to a US WWII fighter plane.

Not quite the right version, but here's a little idea.

Also posted in the documentaries thread but thought I'd share here also. I watched this as a teenager and it helped me fall in love with classical music & New York.

I feel very lucky that a lot of the guys I work with now, worked with many of the people in these recording sessions. Including the great lead trumpet player from this doc Wilmer Wise who sadly passed away 2 years ago.

He busks regularly in York. Not really my sort of thing, but undoubtedly impressive.

Philip Glass is playing in London at the South Bank in May 2019, if he's still with us then at 82?

£20 to see the perhaps most famous classical composer of our time?

It's the Bowie stuff, or I'd have tix already.

What does 'playing' mean, in this context? Conducting an orchestra?

Aye.

Think the star soloist is a chap called James McVinnie, so it looks like Phil with the baton.

L'Arte Dell' Arco - 'Le Quattro Stagioni' Dresden Version

Vivaldi and Guido.

'The Four Seasons' with winds - DSD SACD

Swapping strings for recorders sounds like a shite plan on paper.

It's beautifully played. Unsure whether I've got a better produced album?

There's loads of versions of the 'Four Seasons', largely thanks to Nigel Kennedy.

Not too in to the piece really. Years of advertising and general over exposure did that. The first couple of bars triggers an involuntary movement towards the mute button.

Yet this is :O

Listened to it all the way through 5/6 times this week.
