I keep reading about his intense focus when it comes to the psychological part of the game and players, this should be welcome by the folks who have long thought that we have something wrong with us mentally.

Perhaps the owners think this too. Emery really does tick all the boxes 🤞

Emery has training drills that will change the way Villa press opponents. He goes into great detail with individuals so they know patterns of play, specific movements and even finer details like how their bodies should be shaped when they receive the ball.

Emery leans on his support team to help mould individuals in a way that meets his requirements for each position.

Players at Villarreal, for example, would spend extra time with the assistants after training so they could understand exactly what the manager wanted from them.

Emery is not afraid to increase training time either if he feels the need to get a specific message across.

A player who worked under Emery in Spain and asked to remain anonymous said: “There’s always a lot of attention to every small detail. He doesn’t mind if he has to repeat a football drill or some instructions over and over. He just wants to make sure that the message is understood.”

Beating Juventus in the round of 16 was a highlight but the real kudos was gained in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich.

After winning 1-0 at home, Emery asked his players to perform something bold and daring in the away leg, which they would go on to draw 1-1. As well as defending for their lives out of possession, the team were told to be brave and patient when they had the ball. There would be no long throw-ins and a reduced amount of long balls.

Instead, Villarreal split the centre-backs far and wide from goal kicks, packed the middle of the pitch, and played the ball carefully in neat triangles between themselves, encouraging Bayern to leave gaps in the middle that were then pounced upon.

Of course, it wasn’t all like that but the approach showed that Villarreal, under Emery, were never scared of an opponent and Villa certainly need a bit of that to rid what feels like a losing mentality at the club.

Typically, Emery plays with inverted wingers and asks one of the centre-forwards to drop deep and drag defenders around. The need for speedy and clinical wingers is also important in his system.

Emery’s Villarreal were an intense team who played on the counter-attack at speed after they won the ball. Players like Danjuma and Yeremy Pino were exciting and reliable in one-vs-one situations and had plenty of inventive talent.

Emi and Olsen involved in the passing drills. Not seen the GK's taking part before must be to improve there footwork and distribution.

With Cutler gone so they probably don't have anyone to coach them! 😂

But seriously I think it's good to get them involved. Wonder what the typical split is for goalkeepers when it comes to individual training and general team training

Just a brief glimpse but we have an opportunity here, or should I say these players have an opportunity.

This is a both hands opportunity, not just a fleeting chance of a catch in the slips. This is the best chance they've had in years. A coach that's won stuff as a coach with a plan.

Come on boys, don't f*** this up

Do we know anything about his coaching team yet? Seems to be more of a mystery than anything else we have done lately!

John Terry, ROK and Neil Taylor

Might be just the selection of photos, but It looks like he did the whole session himself with no coaches. That's brave on the first day.

There is a 3 1/2 minute video on facebook

100% The great thing about this is that there are no excuses.

The players must know that with a world class manager/coach, and world class training facilities, if they don’t perform the finger of blame isn’t going to be pointing at the manager. It will be on them.
