England Euro 2021 squad

So, a bit of change after those qualifiers.

GK: Pope, Pickford, Henderson (these three seem nailed on )

DF: Trippier, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Mings, Dier, Chilwell, Saka

MF: Rice, Phillips, Henderson, Ward-Prowse

AM: Sterling, Mount, Foden, Grealish, Sancho, Rashford

CF: Kane, Calvert-Lewin.

Is where I reckon Southgate is at (although I've probably forgotten someone)

I think he might force James in there as an extra right back, but I can't see who he'd squeeze out for him and obviously Southgate is the only man in the country who would pick Dier for this squad.

Is that a thing?

Southgate was asked about it last night

He of course said he's against the idea because a bigger squad means more players not playing which is disruptive

He also said he knows his 23 but didn't know what injuries will do

One thing he may be right on though -

You have a 23 man squad, you have a covid outbreak, that 23 man squad gets sent in to isolation... Do you get to call up a 2nd 23 man squad? Or drop out of the tournament?

If you get the 2nd squad then you don't want a 30 man squad 1st time around

But then all the coaches and manager get sent in to isolation too so who knows what that looks like

I think that's right, though I wonder a little about James as you say, and also whether Coady might be picked instead of Mings or Dier.

Yes I think he would want to get James in. Don't think Ward-Prose's place is nailed on so could replace him in your squad

Seems rediculous that he would leave TAA out. No better attacking right back in world football when he plays like he did yesterday.

But thats one game, he has been woeful a majority of the season

He was great for the previous two years. Its Southgate I wouldn't be surprised if he left Grealish out as well.

yes but apparently he hasnt impressed Southgate when he has been in the England squad either with his performances, at least Jack has turned him around. The way Liverpool played he could get away with it as players covered for him but England dont play that way. Previous  form doesnt really matter either when it comes to tournaments

He is also playing in a position that is completely stacked for England with talent in a specialist position. Trippier and Walker could be about to win the league, before yesterday James was playing in an incredible defence and Cash, Wan Bissaka have all had better seasons than TAA. Southgate mentioned Cash last time in his squad so he cant be far off

You take James as first choice and TAA as 2nd but Southgate will take trippier instead

He's only got 12 caps and I don't think he's been injured that much, been 1st choice for Liverpool for 3 years now(?) so Southgate has never been that hot on him

No TAA maybe no Henderson hopefully no gomez... Scousers will love it..

TAA has stacks more quality than Trippier and Walker. Its just the way Southgate plays.

but he cant defend better than them. Jack tore him apart, Rashford has as well on many occasions. Imagine England in a big knockout game vs Germany, France or Belgium and he is one on one vs Gnabry, Coman etc

You cant train people how to cross a ball like he does. he is as good as anything around. Southgate should build his team around TAA, Grealish and Kane. these are world class players.

Southgate will go with 5 at the back in he plays TAA, we don't have the upfield press or the midfield that Liverpool have

And all that said TAAs Liverpool form this season doesbt deserve a call up

Form is temporary class is permanent.
