sne
Apparently negotiations are ongoing about playing the Champions League final in New York at some time in the future. Not this season obviously. Quote The Champions League final could be hosted in New York, according to a prominent broadcaster. A controversial La Liga decision will see a Spanish top-flight match played overseas for the first time this season, with Girona's home game against Barcelona the proposed pick for a Miami match. Jaumes Roures, chief executive of Barcelona-based television company Mediapro, says discussions are ongoing over moving the domestic European game's showpiece event outside the continent for the first time. "Talks are ongoing investigating the feasibility of hosting a future Champions League final in New York City," Roures told Catalunya Radio's 'El Mati' show. In later 2007, the Premier League proposed a 39th game to the league season to take place outside England. The idea was met was criticism from senior figures in the game and fans alike and was shelved by early 2008, with no progress of note made over the course of the following decade. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/talks-to-stage-champions-league-final-in-new-york-have-begun-says-broadcaster-a3932031.html Another utter joke in trying to force "Soccer" on the average American and to break into that huge market with all those shiny dollars. Then again it's already at a point where actual fans only get a very small % of the tickets to the final so they might as well play it in N.Y, Doha or Beijing
villa4europe
easier to get to than kiev... but in all seriousness im surprised that UEFA will get away with that, there are now plenty of smaller UEFA nations with a good main stadium that will fancy a crack at hosting it before new york (hungary, azerbaijan, nou mestalla, the new WC stadiums in Russia like st petersburg and new stadiums coming in belgium and serbia) im not sure it will pass the vote
sne
20-21 season apparently the first year it would be possible since previous seasons already have locations for the final. (Wanda-Madrid, Ataturk-Istanbul) Wouldn't really surprise as they are clearly making another big push in establishing soccer in the US (I know it's already big among certain demographics)

Apparently the new cup will be for teams from the lower ranked leagues like Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Serbia... A special Olympics for football if you will. sne
UEFA and the big clubs taking another huge dump on the rest of football. Quote New Uefa plan: Champions League on the weekend This news will shock football fans across Europe! Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin (51) and Andrea Agnelli (43), head of Europe's powerful club federation (ECA) and Juventus Turin, discuss behind closed doors a Champions League reform: According to SPORT BILD information, the premier class could not More on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, but be held on the weekend! Background: Kick-off times on Saturday and Sunday attract far more viewers to the television worldwide than at 9 pm during the week. The time difference also plays an important role: in the lucrative Chinese market, for example, it is four o'clock in the morning when the games are being kicked off. What would happen if the Champions League is played at the weekend? The national leagues would have to play more often during the week. Agnelli even has another solution at hand: a reduction of national leagues! The DFL knows the plan - and rejects it strictly. Agnelli also wants more Champions League games! His model looks like this: There are still 32 clubs to attend, instead of eight groups of four Agnelli but speaks out for four groups of eight. The advantage from the point of view of the top clubs: They would instead of six in the future play 14 preliminary round matches, accordingly cashing in more Uefa premiums and onlooker revenue. https://sportbild.bild.de/fussball/champions-league/champions-league/wochenende-anstosszeiten-uefa-plan-ceferin-agnelli-58970324.sport.html There is more to the article behind a pay wall. PaulC
But the Premier League brings in so much revenue. I find it difficult to know how Eufa will be able to make it work.
Zatman
Honestly think this is the weakest season ever. So much money wasted on so many shit players. Some of the big teams can barely string a pass together
