LJRM050389
Everton have emerged as suitors of Espanyol defender Albert Lopo. The Spanish stopper has long been linked with a move to The Premiership and was watched by Manchester United and Aston Villa last season. Both clubs retain an interest in the centre half, while Everton are now understood to have joined the hunt for Lopo. The Toffees watched Lopo in action last week when Espanyol were thrashed 4-0 by Blackburn Rovers in a pre-season friendly. United and Villa also had scouts present at Ewood Park, with Lopo now waiting to discover if a bid will be made. Lopo has just 12 months remaining on his contract with Espanyol and the club would be fearful of losing him for nothing next summer. Espanyol want around £2 million for Lopo but, given that he featured in a heavy defeat, he may not have impressed the Premiership scouts. paddy
given that he featured in a heavy defeat, he may not have impressed the Premiership scouts. Yeah, conceding 4 to a Blackburn side that can put 1 past West Ham isn't a great way to impress people.

BOF Posted August 23, 2005 Moderator Share Posted August 23, 2005 Aston Villa have today been linked with a €6.5m bid for Atletico Madrid's attacking central midfielder Gabi. He is 22 and according to my Atletico supporting colleague is a cracking little player. Story here in Spanish

BOF Posted August 25, 2005 Moderator Share Posted August 25, 2005 from f365 O'LEARY LOOKING FOR HUTH? Aston Villa will step up their pursuit of Chelsea centre-half Robert Huth, says the Daily Mirror. They tried to sign him on loan last season but were foiled, but will now return with a package for a permanent deal. Huth is fourth-choice centre-half at Chelsea and may fancy a move as he tries to cement his place in the German World Cup squad.

BOF Posted August 25, 2005 Moderator Share Posted August 25, 2005 The key lure being that it is world cup year and without games he will not be picked by Klinsmann, and he aint getting games at Chelski.
villafan306
If he can play left back too (as rumoured) then it would be a very shrewd purchase.
BOF Posted August 25, 2005 Moderator Share Posted August 25, 2005 I'm no expert (God knows) but he seems a bit too cumbersome to play on the left or right. They're usually of a more nimble build. I could be wrong though !

lexicon
how'd u guess? Nah it was off the bbc message board for villa, some "insider info". Like balls would be pay even half of what he is on for him, plus he is most probably injured beyond repair. Shame really because he's a good player, very solid at the back and always a threat from corners. I think Huth would be a great buy though, we have been screaming out for physical presence - we need a big hard bastard in our team.
lexicon
Midlands duo fight for Mart West Brom and Aston Villa are targeting a pre-transfer deadline swoop for Stuttgart defender Martin Stranzl, according to the player's agent. Albion manager Bryan Robson is keen to strengthen a defence that has started to leak goals in an alarming manner, with seven conceded in the last two games. Australia international Stranzl is valued at around £2.5m, and his representative Thomas Bohm is claiming the Baggies and Villa are interested in his client. lexicon
Pedersen tracked by quintet Spurs may make a cheeky bid for Blackburn star Morten Gamst Pedersen before Wednesday - but would face competition from four rivals if they do. Norwegian playmaker Pedersen has caught the eye at Ewood Park so far this season, and scored a stunning volleyed goal in Rovers' 2-1 home win over Fulham. He took his time to settle in to the Premiership - but is now attracting envious glances from White Hart Lane, as well as Everton, Aston Villa, Manchester City and the Cottagers. Martin Jol could well launch a bid before the transfer window shuts on 31 August - and if he does it will no doubt spark a domino effect from the other clubs interested in Pedersen's signature.
