Don't know much about him tbh but if Ireland won't budge (and there's absolutely no reason why they should) then renegotiating the backstop arrangements will not happen.

Seems to be a lack of clarity about the procedural requirements for delaying the vote - whether MPs have to agree to that or the govt can just do it.

That's a bit odd, given the vast amount of procedural minutiae the place seems to have written down.

Bercow explained the two options in his rebuke to the Government.

They can either move a motion to adjourn the debate, which would allow the House of Commons to vote on it, or one of their ministers or whips can just say, "Tomorrow..." and it's over.

Edit: Unsurprisingly, a spokesperson has confirmed they're going for the second option which, given the events earlier today, is no cast iron guarantee. :)
