I could not agree more... And I suspect that Gabby has been given the job to either entice him to ignore overtures from MON, or to show everyone that McLeish cares about Villa's traditions (for want of a better word) as Gabby is "Villa through and through", or a combination of both...

Agree with everything except the Cahill comment... It's not as if he left through any anymosity... It's not as if he left for more money... It's not as if he left for Champions League football... And it's not as if he left because he thought he was better than the team... He left because he couldn't get a regular spot... And he went to a club (at the time) below us in the standings... The fact that he now is deemed good enough to come off the bench for Chelsea is probably more of a reflection of the management that let him go, more so than the player himself and any supposed "loyalty" he should have had... Applauding him for achieving that is clueless? :shock: Dear me...

As a kid, I was thrilled to bits when Andy Gray came back in '83. He never should have left in the first place and I cried myself to sleep for weeks afterwards. I was sat in the old Witton Lane, and I can't remember who we were playing, but a little dog found its way onto the pitch and ran around as the Holte End broke into a chorus of "Andy is back, Andy is back, whoa, whoa"... If we had won more of those "winnable" games in the past 8 weeks or so, QPR Blackburn etc, these "unwinnable" games wouldn't be an issue. The only thing conspiring against Villa at the moment is AVFC...

I voted YES, but only on the condition he can keep us up. I'd like to see what he can do with a full pre-season with his own squad (instead of the donkeys he inherited) and backed financially by Randy. Then give him til Christmas to find success. However, if it looks like will will definitely go down this season, or indeed do go down, he should be out on his arse.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but, I was wondering if anyone agrees that some of our defensive lapses last season, especially from corners/set pieces, etc, could be attributed to Friedel's lack of command of his area, and his penchant for staying on his line. And that this is something Given could fix... Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't be bothered trawling through 30 odd pages to find out...
