The recruitment strategy was always buy yoing with resale value. SG has bought digne and coutinho both at the wrong end of their 20's. Not a criticism, just fact. Smith changed things when it wasn't working, i.e 4231 to 433 to 532 etc. It still didn't work, which is on smith, at least he tried to rectify things. Gerrard is yet to do this even though their are huge weaknesses with his system and we've been awful for a while. Digne - 25m approx, coutinho - huge wages (most likely our highest ever paid loan), plus 30 odd mill in the summer. We also had bids rejected for bissouma which tells you we were prepared to spend big in han and will do in the summer - all good if the right players are bought for the correct system.

I think i was probably flippant to an extent, but purslow has put his neck out with SG. Changing the recruitment strategy, formation, massive salary, massive expenditure in transfers. He'll give SG far far more leeway than other managers would get for that reason alone, plus its well known Purslow is a fanboy

We're losing games because we're gifting teams chance after chance because the full backs are out of position and two midfielders have to drop back, leaving gaping holes everywhere. Change the system ffs.

Id like to see us change the system. Go 4231 Emi Cash konsa mings digne Mcginn ramsey Buendia phil bailey Ings Full backs need to be way more conservative until we start becoming more solid. Allow them to become a 4 with mchinn n ramsey when on the attack. Let bailey run at defenders, let phil work his magic giving through balls to ings.

I agree. He also strikes me as someone who would work himself into the ground to get back into the starting 11 if he lost his place. All too easy for him right now. Problem is, he actually does run and get tackles in, far more than JJ and doug do. So you drop him you lose that. Has to be JJ, sanson plus one other

Agreed awful. Not defending him cus he was terrible again yesterday but the worrying thing is that every game there are several examples of thos types of mindless, idiotic passes/decisions from all sorts of players

For the run in europe, you can compare to boreham wood getting to the fa cup 5th round. Good luck to them, a fine achievement, but not the norm. You are absolutely delusional if you cannot see the enormous gulf between the old firm and every other team. Where would Ross County finish in the championship? Or league 1? Or league 2? There are 2 teams of a decent standard in scotland, one beats the other they win the league. It's the same every year and always will be. I'm not being condescending, i'm pointing out the obvious. If you see that league as competitive beyond two teams then that in itself is ignorant.

Strange to make assumptions about me when you don't know me. How many of those 9 league titles were rangers in the same division for. Unbeaten sounds great doesnt it? Effectively though they went unbeaten against celtic, every other game is a banker

For the first bit, i assumed you were referring to SG as a great manager. For the rest, his system allowed rangers to overtake celtic in a two horse race. I'd argue everything smith achieved here outdoes that ten fold. I'd rather a manager do something, anything, than slump back in his chair.

"Great managers" He's out of his depth because he is implementing a system that does not work with this squad. Any system works up in scotland for the old firm. He's out of his depth because he talks about mentality, being ruthless and ringing the changes, yet doesnt do any of these things, because he doesnt know how to do it. He's out of his depth because when the going gets tough, he slumps back in his chair rather than bark orders at the players from the touchline.

He's out of his depth. His 'system' worked with rangers because it's scotland. Any system works when you are rangers/celtic, because you are playing against non-league quality every week. The myth that he will drill a winning mentality into us and be ruthless is absolute bs also. Purslow's mate
