Would explain why McLeish was so piised off yesterday BUT.... if true why play 7 defenders? I may be mistaken (but I don't think I am).. but Chris Herd is a midfielder who can play at RB. SIX defenders. I'm sick of McLeish too, but I think I'm more sick of hearing people say "7 defenders".

No matter what our differences are, no matter what kind of football we'd like us playing, or which players we each like or hate, or how many of us can understand a few of McLeish's less questionable decisions.... we all come together, united, in our time of need! Villa fans... UNITE!

Randy might geniunly think that the loss of an £18m striker, our best central defender & our captain (coupled with injuries to other key players throughout the year) has given McLeish a worse ride than he deserved. He might also think that bringing in another manager could lead to another 'transition season' and relegation battle. He might think that giving McLeish another £20m+ to spend will be enough to get us fighting at the top half of the table again. OR, he might cast his mind back to this time last year, when he had ambitions for us to become a 'footballing side' and he might bite the bullet, sack McLeish, pay the compensation, approach Roberto Martinez and give him the funds to build a new team. Who knows.

I don't see how you can say 'That's a fact'. Arteta was at Everton for yonks, before he went to Arsenal. There are lots of good players in the Prem that have gone to 'lesser' teams instead of the lights of London.

Martinez. He can get the best of Zog, would be the ideal manager to sign Diame on a free, could do wonders with Stephen Ireland and our talented youngsters. AND.. Like his influence on Swansea's current set-up, he can make Aston Villa into a proper footballing side.

Did I miss something? Is McLeish no longer the manager? Or were the 'protests' about something entirely different? I'm still against protests. I haven't been proven wrong. McLeish is still here. I think the results & league finish will be enough for Randy to make up his mind. No amount of poorly written letters or incorrectly spelt banners will change his mind.

Sit back and chew on the month. Some of us have been saying Lambert for well over a year. To be fair to CI, the 3% polll shows that SOME people wanted Lambert. But some people wanted Hughes, Rafa & Curbs. That doesn't mean they're also flavour of the month/ year etc. CI's point is that Lambert (and presumably Rodgers & ... Pardew?) is this years flavour, therefore his name is being praised, like Coyle's was last season. I see his point and I understand his concerns, even if you lot insist on this cannon of abusive bullying!!!! (btw.. I'd like Lambert, Rodgers or Martinez :winkold:)

Regarding what Harry said - I didn't think season ticket sales really gave us much income. I thought the majority of our money came from Sky & Prem position (which will obviously lower).

I think Martinez is the most likely, and obvious, choice. We know Lerner likes him, we kind of know, from a VT poster that sat by him, that he would have liked to have taken the job, and Dave Whelan has said that he wont stop Martinez leaving in the summer and taking a bigger job. I like his interview on AVTV. He says that he now knows what the Villa fans want - hard work, every game. I hope he stays and a new manager builds players around him and DB.

I can't see that happening tbh Tezzaleed. It's not like last season where there was a huge panic, but there were about 7 points between relegation and top half and we end up finishing 10th. We're down there, we're quite a way off a respectable league finish and I don't think Randy will be happy with the performance of McLeish this season with the players he had available. A month or two ago, there was a chance that a few wins could still have pushed us up the table and into the area where a win can be the difference between 15th and 11th, but not now. I think it's too late and I think McLeish knows that he'll be gone by June.

Very much this. i think he would jump at the chance to play week in week out in the Premier League (in an attacking minded team) over the Greek league. Fair enough, and Moyes is an exelent example of this. I should have known that my choise of words would offend some people but is was meant lightheartedly. As Denis said, it makes no difference if a new player is here or not. A new manager will have the whole squad to use/asses. A new manager might not like Zog, Gabby or one of the youngsters. Still.... nothing on the OS... yet.
