  1. IM-HO-TEP!!! IM-HO-TEP!!!
  2. Cromwell disapproved of dancing on religious grounds. But he danced at his daughter's wedding. I approve. Never let them get away without the embarrassing dad dance. It's an inviolable tradition.
  3. Someone's going to get a good Haydn before long.
  4. Aw c'mon fellers. Rejoin the Commonwealth. You know you want to.
  5. So I assume every bit of clothing you own is completely plain and unbranded then? I'm with Kingfisher. And there's a difference between the brand of clothing and a sponsor advert. TBH I prefer clothes NOT to have 'designer' names on them, but if it's the name of the company that makes the clothes I can see it makes some sort of sense. So a Villa shirt with a discreet Nike/Umbro/Reebok/whatever is OK. But not a big advert for some company that has **** all to do with the club, using our shirt as a billboard.
  6. We had one in Liverpool too, It looked so Gaudí from the outside I never went in Get you with the high brow puns I say old chap. I went Chopin for a piano today. Was it on your Chopin Liszt ?
  7. it's a little known fact that Londonderry is named after the capital of England, which is also called Londonderry - but the last five letters are silent.
  8. Maybe he thinks you should never play for your "own" team, in case it all goes wrong.
  9. It used to be a bar in Leeds. The Bar-celona. It was shite.
  10. Absolutely not 60s. 80-82 tribute. But for the collar, a very good one.
  11. I've only used four different barbers (hairdressers are for gurls) in my entire life. And one of them was only once, so effectively three. One near where I lived when I was at primary school (claim to fame: he was the father of TV actor Anton Lesser). One near my grammar school. And one in Leeds, first time in 1975, last time about four years ago when I bought some clippers and went DIY (technically GTWTDI). (The odd one was also in Leeds but he did such a bad job I abandoned the experiment and returned to the regular guy).
  12. The silent letters are, the A in Aaron The D in Dzeko The Z in Zlatan and the b in lamb Well, even then it only has 1 A But I can see the point of the double-A, provided it's used to lengthen the vowel. Aaron pronounced Air-un Aron pronounced Arrun
  13. When did Aaron start being pronounced "Aran"? When I wor a lad it was pronounced "Air-un".
  14. You're old enough to remember when people spoke like that! Thy tongue outvenoms all the worms of Nile, thou villainous abominable misleader of youth. Would the fountain of your mind were clear again, that I might water an ass at it. (So much better than "**** you, clearing in the woods", eh?)
  15. Fifty five grand for a banjo? Jeez.
  16. I've totally stalled on series 2 of Boardwalk Empire. I love it, but I have better things to do.
  17. Well I'd have been mightlily pissed off as a kid if somebody had given me some dumbed-down "teenage" version of Shakespeare. I **** loved it as it was, it was a revelation.
  18. One of the objections to this is that it will "disadvantage less able pupils". Isn't that the whole point of exams? Make them harder, I say. Get back to university only being for clever kids (on a full grant, not a loan), instead of something to keep the unemployment figures down.

    Do you read?

I'm avoiding the film like the plague, I hate Luhrmann's style. Read "Tender is the Night" next. The short stories are good, too (although some of them are reputedly written by his missus).
