  1. Interesting, I rate him but at 28/29 maybe he's too 'short term' Leighton Baines anyone ? Not likely I know Lol, well Aly Cissokho is probrably the best LB in the world atm and is Makoun's best mate..If Lerner is in a spending mood.. I'd be cautiously optimistic, though. Remember what happened last time we bought a left back on a newly transferred midfielder's suggestion!
  2. One in for Petrov, since he doesn't have a song, despite being the captain: To the tune of Born on a mountaintop in Bulgar-ee Greenest state in Europe's East Raised on the pitch so ran like a machine Tackled a bear, when he was only three Stil-yaaaaaaan! Stiliyan Petrov King of the Villa midfield!
  3. I fail to see how Pires put in such an "awful" shift. Seemed to me like he was getting fairly involved, passing was good, he helped Gabby put pressure on the centerbacks and Simonsen when without the ball, and even made a nice run to stop a Sheff U break after a Villa corner. I think a lot of people on here are reacting to the man's most recent comments in one interview that has been recycled fifty times over, as is the custom in the British papers, rather than the player's actual performance today.
  4. Added my photo blog to the list. .. or at least messaged Chris about it.
  5. Teamsheet: Friedel; Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Clark; Petrov, Reo-Coker; Downing, Young, Agbonlahor; Heskey. Subs from Marshall, Lichaj, Pires, Herd, Bannan, Albrighton and The Fonz.
  6. How do you know!! Err, they just read the team out on WM Ahhh! Usually people just post the full teams, yet this time we had people saying 'glad NRC is playing, Bannan will be funny' etc...DAMN YOU, JUST TELL US THE TEAM! And someone posted the team earlier; it's Brad; Lichaj, Cuellar, Collins, Warnock; Albrighton, NRC, Bannan, Petrov, Downing; Gabby. Subs are Guzan, Hogg, Delph, Pires, Herd and the Fonz
  7. A Scouse and several Spurs supporters that I talked with reckoned Fabs was one of the standouts for Villa, so I don't know what you lot going on about "off the pace" are on.
  8. The one worry I have about Citeh is that they like to flood one side of the box- yesterday it was the left. So Warnock is going to have to have the game of his life both in breaking up play and then quickly getting it to the midfielders to start the break.
  9. ordered one from the OS on 22 November. . . it still has yet to arrive in the US! Customer service told me "wait 25 business days- it sometimes takes that long" I appreciate that they offered free shipping to make up for the cockups they've had with Nike, but I would have rather paid for overnight, tracked shipping at this point!
  10. im happy with this too. I'd also be happy with resting Gabby for the Christmas program and playing Bannan in the hole.
  11. There's always Salifou. If he can put rocket polisher Love in his back pocket for a half, he could surely do a job on Bowyer and Ferguson
  12. Gabby ended up on the left wing more often than not in an effort to re-balance the shape with Young drifting centrally. When the Fonz came on, he was stubborn enough to continue playing as a striker, hence he got into a couple of really nice positions to test Robinson or develop a chance.
  13. To celebrate Ivanhoe's rebirth back with Gerard: (tune of the Flintstones theme) Emile, EMILE HESKEY Greatest Striker in history. . From the TOWN OF LEICESTER With Big Ged he'll bag twenty-threeeeeeeee
  14. Emile, EMILE HESKEY Greatest Striker in history. . From the TOWN OF LEICESTER With Houllier he'll bag twenty-threeeeeeeee
  15. 23 in 00-01. It's the Ged Effect.
  16. That's a decent side for a competition in which we SHOULD be using the squad. Houllier is testing the squad players, while leaving in the full brunt of our attack. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that ends up a 4-3-3 with Ash and Gab on the attacking wings, with NRC, Sidwell and Bannan as the midfield 3.
  17. That "downgrade" would be an upgrade, IMO. Over the past two seasons, Nike (and Adidas for that matter) seem to be revisiting the late 80s-early 90s school of kit design- ridiculous sublimation and awful geometric designs. Meanwhile Umbro's design team are plumbing the 60s and 70s- clean lines, solid construction etc. I'd love to see what Umbro could pull together for Villa.
  18. Or, to the tune of the refrain of Le Marsellaise (the Amour sacre de la patrie part): WE ALL SUPPORT THE VILLA UNDER GERARD HOULLIER
  19. Well, he DID have overrated tosser Stevie Gerrard in his back pocket for the entirety of the 3-1 win at Anfield. So he wasn't crap ALL of last season. I do think he needs a run of games to re-find his feet, which is something he didn't get under MON. In the meantime, he can still break up play very nicely on the defensive end, which is quite valuable in the current Villa set up. Give the lad some time and I think he'll impress.
  20. Thank god for posting that, i can now go to bed in a better mood 8) Houllier as Manager im happy with, Macca as first team coach im also happy with. Good night all I'd be happier with that too, but I've just thought of possible snag with having Houiller as manager. Isn't "Gérard Houiller's claret and blue army" going to be a bit hard to sing, especially for several minutes at a time? How about HOO-LEE-AY's Claret-Blue army!!! Or Ger'd Houlyay's Claret-Blue Army!!!! Not so hard. See?
  21. Sounds like the game just needed Salifou. Or Bannan. Mostly Bannan.
  22. This. Even in that passengeresque performance there were a handful of simply lovely throughballs that no one in our team was capable of before Ireland.
  23. Lads on the OS saying it's a 4-3-3. Good if he's right.
