    Everyone assumes the Gulf states have endless money, but Qatar didn’t ever seem willing to meet the asking price. A shame they didn’t get the chance to fail again, like they always have done with PSG.

    When he makes a forward pass out to his right, he’ll almost never stop, turn and play it with his instep. Imstead he pings it with the outside of the foot. Saves half a second each time (and looks better obviously).

    Pass completion is easier when you almost exclusively play short sideways passes. But we’ll have to wait and see, it’s not like we have a choice.

    The lack of pace is a worry with our current defenders. Lenglet looked very very slow, and then there’s Chambers and Digne. Pau is no sprinter either.

    AZ Incredibly losing to the Bosnian team after being 3-0 up should be good news for us, as they’re seen as the most difficult team in the group.

    Shit performance. Villa got visibly nervous and stressed as the game went on which made things worse. Lack of experience with playing abroad in front of a hostile crowd didn’t help. Defence particularly poor, not one defender did even remotely well. I worry about Lenglet’s lack of pace. But I won’t complain about selection, it’s not possible to use the same 11 players every three days until May. The problem is rather the squad still may not be good enough.

    Funny how I didn’t Pau was that great, but his match stats today look absolutely elite.

    Brilliant goal from Duran! Changed everything. Dougie my MOTM though, when everyone else kept making sloppy mistakes and losing duels all over the pitch, he kept his head and stayed sharp.

    I ’ll never understand the obsession with using players out of position. ”He’s tall, try him in central defence” or ”looks like he reads the game well, bet he could do a job as DM”. Players generally don’t like being shuffled around to fill gaps and it rarely works.

    Legia and AZ both have a solid history of hooliganism, so could be some action in the streets too.

    Brighton are great at giving their young prospects time to develop at other clubs. That doesn’t have to mean their team is left short while those youngsters are away. At the moment Brighton have 3 senior strikers in Ferguson, Joao Pedro and Welbeck, so you’d have to say their depth in that departement is better than ours.

    Not saying you’re wrong here, but fans tend to question reports about their club paying high wages. Reports about the club making a shrewd deal on the other hand, are usually seen as facts.

    If you mean Barcelona, Adama Traore, Coutinho and Martin Braithwaite recently played for them too. Emery didn’t sign him at Sevilla but Monchi did. Monchi seems to revisit a lot of earlier signings (Zaniolo, Acuna rumours) and I’m fine with it.
