  1. *1 shot (Haaland header was offside) …I’ll keep correcting this fact until the day I die
  2. I’ll reiterate again- that’s only 1 shot on target. He’s offside for the header
  3. I remember the first time I saw a guardiola team play in the late noughties. It was like watching football from the future. Teams like ferguson’s united, mourinho’s Chelsea (albeit under Grant) and wenger’s arsenal, who were used to bullying PL teams, were thoroughly bullied by a Barca team that gave them no time on the ball and dominated in all areas of the pitch. Now admittedly, the City side we played last night were not as good as that Barca side, not least cause of the number of injuries. But it still blows my mind to think that we completely dominated them last night
  4. He’s a bit overrated isn’t he. Dont get me wrong the stats don’t lie and he is an unbelievable goal scorer. But if you asked the average city fan if they’d rather he was suspended or Rodri for tonight’s game they’d have said haaland

    Unai Emery

We are so so lucky to have him here
  6. I’d completely written him off and clearly wasn’t the only one. His improvement in performances over the last couple of months might be the most dramatic I’ve seen of any Villa player
  7. Technically it was only 1. The haaland header on the rebound would have been flagged as offside
  8. Yeah this whole section was bizarre. They were also blasting VAR for having the temerity to show the clip in slow motion. Shock horror
  9. So that means united finished with 89 points which would only be 11 points higher than our implied end season standing this year based on 2.1 ppg so far. With a 78 points total, which we’re on course for at this rate under emery, we’d have comfortably finished 4th that year (actual finish was 6th)
  10. How many points did we have at that point? Genuine question as I can’t find the stats. i looked at the final standings and we had 62 points after 38 games which is 1.6 ppg vs 2.1ppg so far this season. If we continue that form we finish the season with 78 points. How’s your maths? Does that sound good enough for you? More generally, I’ve no problem with you thinking 08/09 was the time of your life- you go for it mate. But don’t piss on other people on this forum’s parade for having the temerity to enjoy what’s going on under emery. Maybe you an I will meet one day in 10 years and you’ll tell me glowingly how amazing life was under O’Neill and I’ll argue that it was better under emery. Who knows who will be right but I have a suspicion it won’t be you
  11. Don’t apologise mate- some people think it’s a crime to be positive on these forums
  12. We never mounted “title challenges” under O’Neill so your memory is very much selective. Im 32 and this is the best season in my living memory so far- sorry if that offends you
  13. Very true but as we’ve seen from this thread, the source can vary in quality from SSN to some guy hanging out in the priory’s bathroom
  14. Can the Mods have guidance stopping posts like this? If you’re not gonna provide the source then these types of posts just create more annoyance/ and confusion. It’s so easy to do- just say where you read it
  15. Just while we’re still on Jermaine Jenas, I’ll never forget a BBC article from 2016 where he recollected his experience of the January transfer window. Specifically this quote: “My loan move to Aston Villa in August 2011 and transfer to QPR in January 2013 were on transfer deadline days too. I joined Martin O'Neill at Villa who had been chasing me for a long time and I was going to be one of the bigger players at the club.” O’Neill left the club over a year before his arrival so either he’s even thicker than he comes across or (more likely) he lies in his articles to make himself look better.
  16. Jermaine Jenas is one of those people who, without exception, you should think the opposite of what they say and you’ll be closer to the truth. Let’s test it: “Everyone is looking at his team now and thinking 'this is Spurs', because they aren’t so depleted - and I am not confident about their chances of making the top four when they get their players fit. I certainly don’t think they will finish above Villa, who I thought were impressive on Sunday - they played against a second-string Spurs side and ensured they got over the line.“ Yep- makes much more sense. We can call this the Jenas test
  17. The Gregg Evans- Jacob Tanswell upgrade was the best Villa related transfer of the summer

  19. Luton was my first game at VP and he impressed me the most- better than expected in person. Classy on the ball but also noticeable how many individual fuels he won as well which was more surprising

    Lefties

If I’m calculating right (excuse the pun) the only right footed signing emery has made so far has been tielemans - and he was on a free so clearly we don’t like paying money for right footers(!) moreno, Duran, pau, diaby, zaniolo, lenglet,
  21. Seems like the latest of many incidents like these involving Marseille
  22. They drew with arsenal. And they were very lucky to beat Liverpool given the wrongly disallowed Luiz goal and Liverpool only conceding in the last minute. Lose that game and they’re basically bang in line with us in the table having played significantly easier fixtures
  23. Why are they treating shirt design as if it’s rocket science? Just give us the same shirt but in a sensible material like every other club in the league
