  1. Fair play to them for standing up to you. The conversation may have gone wildly off topic but to repeatedly laugh at someone who was expressing concern for the well-being of others, potentially friends or family, is completely despicable and reflects the lowest level of humanity. I’ve been reading this forum for many years but your reactions here are by miles the worst I’ve ever seen. You should be ashamed of yourself but that would require a basic level of empathy.
  2. I’ve no interest in knocking players for one or two bad performances. That can happen to anyone. It was my genuine opinion that Diaby didn’t put in 100% effort yesterday and that his lack of work rate stood out like a sore thumb compared to Watkins and McGinn who ran themselves into the ground in a similar area of the pitch. Diaby is a speedster so closing down defenders should be easy to him. To me, he offered no resistance in this regard and Arsenal easily passed the ball beyond him. It irritated me to the point that I felt compelled to comment on it. No other agenda beyond that and again, that’s just my opinion based on what I saw. Maybe I saw it wrong. Otherwise, phenomenal few days for the club.
  3. He definitely didn’t work his socks off. He mostly walked and jogged after coming on. There were team mates gesturing towards him to track back. To me, he looked like he was either carrying an injury or had no interest in putting a shift in. I don’t want to put a dampener on things but it annoyed me because there were other guys running themselves into the ground.
  4. His performance was the only real downside for me. He almost looked disinterested. He offered nothing in pressing and closing Arsenal players down. Either wouldn’t run or couldn’t run. Either way, it’s a bit concerning.
  5. Absolutely and utterly sensational. A performance that got better as the game went on. To be pushing for a second when 1-0 up was just the icing on the cake and showed the mentality of this team. Thrilled for Bailey. Deserves his moment. Every player put in a performance. Difficult to pick people out. Made City look like Burnley. Incredible.
  6. It’s not really a technicality. The places will go to the best leagues based on merit. Fifth will either give champions league or europa league football. I’d much prefer champions league. And it could make a more exciting finish to the season if there were five places up for grabs. It would be a shame to finish fifth and miss out when England is almost always in those top two spots.
  7. True but they’re hanging by a thread. The big points are for champions league progression. I don’t think they get many for going through the Europa.
  8. It may be fun to watch Man United struggle but Newcastle and Man United going out in the group stages could hugely diminish our own champions league chances.
  9. I wonder if this was one of Unai’s terms for joining us in the first place.
  10. He hasn’t been great today though. He needs to get himself into the game. I think we need to change things.
  11. Good shout. He could cause some problems beside Ollie.
  12. Miracle to be level at half time. Now get Cash off. He won’t last another 10 minutes. Need to massively up the intensity in the second half.
  13. So slow from Digne. Kamara starting to get stuck in here. Need more of that.
  14. Spurs passing around too easily. We need to start pressuring the ball.
  15. I don’t know about this. Fulham would have scored three or four goals in the game a few weeks ago under this Wenger rule. Tight offsides are saving us from conceding big chances pretty much every game. It’s a huge part of how we set up and we are very good at it. I don’t see us getting caught offside near as much at the other end. I think we will have to change our system if this rule comes in.
  16. Exactly. As things stand, the Saudis have the perfect template to essentially launder money into Newcastle from a sporting perspective. They have the critical mass and money within their own league to attract players there in the first place without FFP constraint, and can then loan said players around to their European partners as they please. One might say if you can’t beat them join them, but the Saudi league is a closed shop and there aren’t many other leagues, if any, outside FFP with the money and prestige to attract the players in the first place. I think the loophole will be closed or tightened at some point but Newcastle could make hay in the meantime. We might say “big deal” but most Villa fans would love the prospect of loaning a player like Neves for the rest of the season. It could make a huge difference.
  17. I thought Zaniolo was much better in the first half. He was involved in creating some decent opportunities. The pundits were complimentary. He seemed to tire in the second half. He doesn’t look like his conditioning and fitness is quite at the level it could or should be. It’s noticeable how close he stays to the right sideline, like a traditional right winger. But as a result, he seems to struggle to get into dangerous positions. I feel like there’s an element of hesitation there too, like he’s reluctant to drive forward and take a chance for whatever reason. But I’d say he played well overall and was definitely better than the guy who replaced him. Chiesa, on the other hand, is just a joy to watch. Boundless energy, work rate, trickery, dribbling, end product. And brilliant at tracking back and helping the defence. Zaniolo didn’t contribute enough in this area in my opinion, which brings me back to the fitness point I touched on earlier.
  18. In fairness to Matty, I think Digne is far more likely to be targeted. He’s slower and weaker defensively than Matty in my opinion. I haven’t seen Cash get caught out by a run in behind anything close to the number of times Digne has. In fact, I think Cash is quite solid defensively.
  19. We’ve beaten spurs three time. Twice away. We did a double over Arsenal in once season and beat Liverpool 7-2. So that’s at least six wins.
  20. We will need to be more ambitious than that to stay in the top 5. We’ve already won lots of games from those fixtures since we’ve been promoted so we should be taking some scalps this season.
  21. Brilliant win. The level McGinn is playing at is just incredible. I’d written him off 12 months ago. He’s everywhere and involved in everything. I felt we were vulnerable all second half and Fulham could have scored at any moment but we did enough. Fulham are not a bad side. Hopefully we get some rest during the internationals.
  22. Couldn’t agree more. It’s the referee’s job to know the rules. It shouldn’t be that difficult, especially now that they have VAR at their disposal to take a second look. We had armchair supporters calling foul because the defender deliberately headed the ball.
  23. Ironically, that Mings incident was a catalyst for another tweak to the rule at the time with a focus on whether the defender deliberately plays the ball or not.
