  1. Been having a play around with a few different shield shapes, trying to work in all of the aspects that seem to be wanted in the survey... It's difficult to put all of these different components together without it becoming too busy, and then shields have been used on crests for ages, so creating a shield shape that is unique but obviously a shield is also difficult.
  2. Yeah, the Wolves crest was a very brave bit of design back in ~1979, they managed to create something that was both unique and long-lasting, it's only needed a few tweaks in all that time. Not only is the wolf design instantly recognisable, but they added the hexagon in 2002 and that is now unique to them as well. It's a really solid brand they have.
  3. I wanted to try and show how important shapes can be in design, and again this may be one of the reasons we stepped back from the roundel. Below I've simply blanked out the crests of the premier league and rearranged the order a bit. As you can see, some of them are instantly recognisable and that is exactly what you want, to be quickly and easily recognised. Anything round, good luck guessing which is which, the shields are also difficult to figure out, it's possible but not easy. This is partly why I like the diamond and lampshade designs as they are unique and will become instantly recognisable over time if used correctly. It seems like we are going for a shield, I just hope if we do that the shield shape is different enough from the others to stand out.
  4. Shaun Derry. He's a failed lower-league manager. Emery had his hand out, O'Neil saw it and decided to have a pop at the 4th official instead of shaking it, Emery walked away rather than hang around waiting, and Derry just wanted to start a fight because that is all his primitive brain is capable of creating. It's a nothing burger, Emery has class, O'Neil and Derry are without class, and nothing new was learned.
  5. Wolves won some friendlies against European teams in the 50's and declared themselves 'Champions of the World', as you do. So somebody set up a competition to prove them wrong, and seeing as they've failed to win it in the 68 years since I'd say that they've been proven very wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_European_Cup_and_UEFA_Champions_League The UEFA Congress of March 1955 saw the proposal raised, with approval given in April of that year, and the kick-off of the first European Cup the following season. However, the would be no Soviet (until 1967) or English teams in the first tournament. So humble. I'm glad to see some things never change...
  6. I think tactically it's just very tricky to deal with a team so willing to sit deep and hit you on the counter on their home ground. Ideally, we like to press forward and squeeze the play with our high line, but that's exactly what Wolves wanted us to do, as you can tell by O'Neil's comments after the game. That we didn't is smart, we didn't walk into their trap, but it did mean we had to try and play in a different way. We also seemed very leggy, and not quite at the races, which is understandable with the number of games and only partial rotation we've been able to employ. I think the combination of these things resulted in a bit of a disjointed performance. I was worried about this game, just the amount of injuries we are carrying, the number of minutes some have already chalked up, the fact their tales were up after the weekend before and they'd had much more rest and preparation for this game that they always seem most up for. I think if we had a fully fit and firing squad we'd probably have taken the game to them more, when you consider we are missing the entire left-hand side from last season it's really impressive the work Emery is doing. We did okay in the end, Emery will of course demand more, but I'm not unhappy with a hard-earned point at a place where we generally walk away with nothing.
  7. Even if you ignore the omission of Konsa, the continued selection of Maguire, Phillips and Henderson is just mental. They've all been good players, but not of them have been any good for a long time now and two of them have barely played for the last year. No left back? Is there not a single left back in the country worth picking? Really? Not even a prospect you can bring into the squad to get to know the environment? Gallagher? Is he playing better than Ward-Prowse or any other English midfielder? He's been awful for Chelsea. Not picking one or two players on form to keep a bit of coherence to the squad is fine, but it's getting ridiculous. We've got a couple of genuinely world-class players in Kane and Bellingham and maybe a couple the level below that with Rice and Foden, if we are going to win anything then it's imperative you get the right supporting cast to get the best out of those players. It feels like to Southgate, proving himself 'right' is more important than picking the best squad of players available, eventually, this kind of hubris will cost us and him.
  8. Also, been messing around with the current/old crest shape...
  9. Design Genie is eager to please (Kenneth)...
  10. Just playing around with a couple of shields, based on the '56 crest Again, more just a crest than something you can build a brand out of really. Anyway, I should probably get some work done...
  11. Yes, I agree, and you can kind of go around in circles with this where you think it has to have a blue background so it stands out on the shirts, but then that doesn't sit as well on white and other colours, and the lion would then have to be claret and so on and so forth. In the end, I think it's best to just create something that is 'Aston Villa' and worry about the use cases after that. The image below shows how some clubs get around a similar problem, if you look at the Crystal Palace, Southampton and Man Utd badges in particular.
  12. For anyone that wanted a colour version of the diamond design...
  13. This kind of thing would absolutely fall under brand identity. I often get 'Brand Documents' or 'Brand Guidelines' at work to follow, and they will contain phrases like this to use in certain situations, these documents can become extremely specific in some cases, including the kind of language to use, the specific space around which each brand component must-have, the colour combinations you can and cannot use, every scenario possible that is acceptable in which to use each component, honestly sometimes they take it too far for my liking, but it all contributes to keeping things consistent provided the guidelines are always followed.
  14. Hmm.. he's strutting around that green a long time looking for someone to pop off at. Not cool, not cool at all.
  15. Incredible day, really impressed with the European rookies and their contribution, and nice to see some of the more experienced guys stepping into the leadership roles vacated by the LIV lot. Expect the Americans to go strong with their pairings tomorrow to try and claw it back, which could tire them for the singles on Sunday if they overplay a few. We'll probably be looking to just tie each session tomorrow and leave ourselves as little as possible to do on the final day.
  16. Exactly, it's component parts that can be added or taken away depending on the use case, the crest that contains everything isn't intended to be scaled down as it is, you'd lose the '1874' quite quickly as you go smaller and it becomes unreadable, next to go would be the name, you could also jump to just AVFC at certain sizes rather than the full name if needed, and then when you start to get really small you can lose the shield/lamp shape and just have the lion and star, or the lion on it's own. I did a post a few pages back that shows what I mean, although that was with a diamond rather than the lamp/shield shape, but the idea is the same.
  17. Noted. Though I doubt they'd pay me the equivalent of Lucas Digne's wage for a few hours work...
  18. Is anyone following the Ryder cup? Been some start by Europe this morning!
