  1. I would say, as somebody who works with colour on screens, that it's more important to get the fashion/kits colour correct first, and then get the print colour to match as closely as possible, and then screens are probably bottom in terms of importance when it comes to colour. This is because there are so many different types of screens with all kinds of different settings that can and are often changed, so no matter what colour you set everybody will be seeing a slightly different colour anyway due to the sheer number of variables at play. Obviously, you'd still try and match it as best as possible, and then be consistent when using it, but the colour should not start from somebody picking it on a screen in my opinion.
  2. I'd be surprised if there was an official hex code back then, mainly because hex codes are a digital format for use on screens, though there may have been a CMYK colour for printed stuff. I believe for clothing/fashion they use a different colour format, and @NurembergVillanhas mentioned before it can be difficult to get some colours to match up with the digital/print colours as it depends on the ink, material, and other factors. You could try and take a hex colour from an image using a colour picker, however, the accuracy depends on how accurate the colours are in the image, again there can be a lot of factors at play in terms of lighting, if the image has been edited etc.
  3. I would think, and I have nothing to back this up, that Emery wants to win the big one; he wants the Champions League on his CV. Elite managers are judged on how many they have. I think part of the reason he left Villareal for us, is that our owner's ambition matched his, that financially we'd back him more than Villareal, and give him whatever he wants to bring home that trophy. Now, I would imagine that if any massive club came in for him then he would consider it, and one of the main considerations would be 'Would I have a better chance of winning the Champions League there?' Don't get me wrong, there will be other factors, and I don't think he'd easily walk away from the project he's started here, I just get the impression he's fiercely ambitious and we'll need to keep up with that ambition if he's to remain here for a long time. Are Manchester United more likely to win the Champions League than us in their current condition? I don't know. They look a mess, but they still have plenty of good players there, and they have more FFP wiggle room than most due to massive income, so there's potential certainly. On the other side, they need a bigger culture change than we did, and that usually requires more player turnover, which inevitably takes longer, and time is not something easily afforded. So it wouldn't be a straightforward decision. Unai certainly backed himself to come in and improve us, I'm sure he'd back himself to improve them too. Hopefully, no decision will need to be made.
  4. I'm not sure it's that easy, he may have been using other people's accounts to place bets (like his mothers possibly), or he may have multiple accounts in different names, or multiple devices others have access to who could have placed the bets, then you have VPNs that could mask where the bet was placed etc. The authorities have to request the data for all of this, and dodgy sites likely won't keep complete data, and then join up enough dots along with his financials to prove beyond doubt he placed a particular bet at a particular time on an account that is specifically his. I've no idea if he did or didn't do any of these things, as someone mentioned above, either he knows he's innocent or he's banking on the authorities not being able to prove beyond doubt he's done anything wrong.
  5. Been having a play around with a few different shield shapes, trying to work in all of the aspects that seem to be wanted in the survey... It's difficult to put all of these different components together without it becoming too busy, and then shields have been used on crests for ages, so creating a shield shape that is unique but obviously a shield is also difficult.
  6. Yeah, the Wolves crest was a very brave bit of design back in ~1979, they managed to create something that was both unique and long-lasting, it's only needed a few tweaks in all that time. Not only is the wolf design instantly recognisable, but they added the hexagon in 2002 and that is now unique to them as well. It's a really solid brand they have.
  7. I wanted to try and show how important shapes can be in design, and again this may be one of the reasons we stepped back from the roundel. Below I've simply blanked out the crests of the premier league and rearranged the order a bit. As you can see, some of them are instantly recognisable and that is exactly what you want, to be quickly and easily recognised. Anything round, good luck guessing which is which, the shields are also difficult to figure out, it's possible but not easy. This is partly why I like the diamond and lampshade designs as they are unique and will become instantly recognisable over time if used correctly. It seems like we are going for a shield, I just hope if we do that the shield shape is different enough from the others to stand out.
  8. Shaun Derry. He's a failed lower-league manager. Emery had his hand out, O'Neil saw it and decided to have a pop at the 4th official instead of shaking it, Emery walked away rather than hang around waiting, and Derry just wanted to start a fight because that is all his primitive brain is capable of creating. It's a nothing burger, Emery has class, O'Neil and Derry are without class, and nothing new was learned.
  9. Wolves won some friendlies against European teams in the 50's and declared themselves 'Champions of the World', as you do. So somebody set up a competition to prove them wrong, and seeing as they've failed to win it in the 68 years since I'd say that they've been proven very wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_European_Cup_and_UEFA_Champions_League The UEFA Congress of March 1955 saw the proposal raised, with approval given in April of that year, and the kick-off of the first European Cup the following season. However, the would be no Soviet (until 1967) or English teams in the first tournament. So humble. I'm glad to see some things never change...
  10. I think tactically it's just very tricky to deal with a team so willing to sit deep and hit you on the counter on their home ground. Ideally, we like to press forward and squeeze the play with our high line, but that's exactly what Wolves wanted us to do, as you can tell by O'Neil's comments after the game. That we didn't is smart, we didn't walk into their trap, but it did mean we had to try and play in a different way. We also seemed very leggy, and not quite at the races, which is understandable with the number of games and only partial rotation we've been able to employ. I think the combination of these things resulted in a bit of a disjointed performance. I was worried about this game, just the amount of injuries we are carrying, the number of minutes some have already chalked up, the fact their tales were up after the weekend before and they'd had much more rest and preparation for this game that they always seem most up for. I think if we had a fully fit and firing squad we'd probably have taken the game to them more, when you consider we are missing the entire left-hand side from last season it's really impressive the work Emery is doing. We did okay in the end, Emery will of course demand more, but I'm not unhappy with a hard-earned point at a place where we generally walk away with nothing.
  11. Even if you ignore the omission of Konsa, the continued selection of Maguire, Phillips and Henderson is just mental. They've all been good players, but not of them have been any good for a long time now and two of them have barely played for the last year. No left back? Is there not a single left back in the country worth picking? Really? Not even a prospect you can bring into the squad to get to know the environment? Gallagher? Is he playing better than Ward-Prowse or any other English midfielder? He's been awful for Chelsea. Not picking one or two players on form to keep a bit of coherence to the squad is fine, but it's getting ridiculous. We've got a couple of genuinely world-class players in Kane and Bellingham and maybe a couple the level below that with Rice and Foden, if we are going to win anything then it's imperative you get the right supporting cast to get the best out of those players. It feels like to Southgate, proving himself 'right' is more important than picking the best squad of players available, eventually, this kind of hubris will cost us and him.
  12. Also, been messing around with the current/old crest shape...
  13. Design Genie is eager to please (Kenneth)...
  14. Just playing around with a couple of shields, based on the '56 crest Again, more just a crest than something you can build a brand out of really. Anyway, I should probably get some work done...
  15. Yes, I agree, and you can kind of go around in circles with this where you think it has to have a blue background so it stands out on the shirts, but then that doesn't sit as well on white and other colours, and the lion would then have to be claret and so on and so forth. In the end, I think it's best to just create something that is 'Aston Villa' and worry about the use cases after that. The image below shows how some clubs get around a similar problem, if you look at the Crystal Palace, Southampton and Man Utd badges in particular.
  16. For anyone that wanted a colour version of the diamond design...
  17. This kind of thing would absolutely fall under brand identity. I often get 'Brand Documents' or 'Brand Guidelines' at work to follow, and they will contain phrases like this to use in certain situations, these documents can become extremely specific in some cases, including the kind of language to use, the specific space around which each brand component must-have, the colour combinations you can and cannot use, every scenario possible that is acceptable in which to use each component, honestly sometimes they take it too far for my liking, but it all contributes to keeping things consistent provided the guidelines are always followed.
  18. Hmm.. he's strutting around that green a long time looking for someone to pop off at. Not cool, not cool at all.
