  1. I think we'd like to sell quite a few but many are on decent wages and proving difficult to shift, might see a few outgoings loan or otherwise over the next week.
  2. Haven't listened to the whole pod yet but in that section I believe he said Maupay was the plan B if we don't get the 'ambitious' target we are supposedly after. No idea who this ambitious target is though.
  3. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Godzilla sized meat clackers less so...
  4. Suppose it depends on what you define as a flop, do you blame the player for not giving the manager enough reasons to pick you or do you blame the manager for having blind faith in other players. Either way they were both deemed not good enough for the first team and sold. That's a flop to me.
  5. De Bruyne, played 9 games for Chelsea, was then loaned out and sold, I'd say that's a flop. Salah, 19 games, was then loaned out and sold. Neither really held down a first team place.
  6. I agree, his experience will be very useful. The point I was trying to make is that after a season or maybe two Heaton will be phased in to being back up for a younger keeper, junxs believes it would more like when he's 36 plus.
  7. Salah and De Bruyne would be obvious ones
  8. In my opinion, 33 used to be prime for keepers but the game has now moved on somewhat and that prime age is coming down. For example there were only 3 keepers older than Heaton in the Premier League last season that you could consider first choice: Cech, Foster and Fabianski. Cech lost his place by the end of the season. The game is much quicker now, agility and reaction time are essential. We have different opinions, that's fine
  9. I seem to remember that when the 'press' were saying we bid £4-5m for Heaton, Dyche came out the next day and stated in no uncertain terms that they'd received no bids. I'm not convinced we started the bidding that low.
  10. I think we will, old experienced keeper as back up with younger quality keeper as first choice is an often used model. We can agree to disagree on that though. Stoke wanted way too much by the sounds of it and Butland didn't want to force a move, we've done the right thing and gone elsewhere, he's not the only keeper that could improve us, I'm not disappointed, we were never going to fill every position for the next 10 years in one transfer window, some compromises were always going to be made.
  11. Completely agree, if we stay up and Heaton plays the majority of games that's worth the £8m alone, anything else is bonus, everything he brings in training, the experience, maybe even a solid back up for the last few years of his career.
  12. Unless Smith is actually Tony Pulis in disguise...
  13. I think most people, myself included wanted Butland, but from what we've heard Stoke moved the goalposts and asked for way too much. I don't think we should be held to ransom and clearly neither do the owners, don't be surprised if we are back in for Butland next summer and if Stoke don't go up I imagine the price will be far more reasonable. Heaton is a more than capable stop gap and at a reasonable price, seems like good business to me.
  14. Depends who's on the pitch, Wesley most likely, Grealish, Hourihane possibly, it's a good job Adomah has left after the shoot out incident!
  15. Watching that video tells me that Burnley desperately need a decent left back, everything came down that side...
  16. Regarding the £8m fee, there's a few things that need to be considered: We are buying the captain of a direct rival Homegrown quota has value We are buying a player at his peak rather than potential, it costs a bit more We are paying his value to us, not to Burnley, very much like the Mings Deal I think this is a good deal, he's a good keeper, good positioning, good decision making and a clear leader. I think Butland was first choice, but Stoke have played silly sausages, so we've decided to wait it out and bring in known quality for the meantime, then if Stoke fail to get up we'll grab Butland at a discount price. I think another benefit of the deal is what Heaton will bring in for Jed Steer and the other keepers at the club, training with an experienced and driven guy like Heaton can only help their development.
  17. No, Everton signed him because of a relegation release clause, it's not possible as far as I am aware to add sell on fees to such clauses, so once Everton bid over the release clause value we had no way of inserting anything in to the deal.
  18. Depends on how much we paid Nice and him (i.e. same deal as with Douglas Luiz), he's got no international caps and as far as I can see no second nationality. Wonder how many times we can go to the work permit panel and get away with it?!
  19. Spot on, it's allowed because non-British players can be classified as homegrown as well, i.e. Pogba, Lukaku, Sigurdsson and Bellerin are all classed as homegrown players. Defenition below: A “Home Grown Player” is defined in the (Rule 33.8) as a player who: irrespective of their nationality or age, has been registered with either: their current club (who is a member of the EFL); and/or a club and/or any other football club affiliated with the Football Association (“FA“) or Football Association of Wales (for example, Premier League or non-league clubs) for a period, continuous or non-continuous, of three seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which they turn 21).
  20. I assume he will need a work permit as he's Zimbabwean (unless he has a second nationality, but I can't see one mentioned anywhere), however it should be pretty straightforward due to his international record. With regards to limits, I don't believe there is a work permit limit as such, apart from the homegrown quota which each match day squad must meet.
  21. I also noticed when the penalty was given Hourihane rushed over as if he's supposed to be the designated taker, but by the time he got there Wesley already had the ball, seemed Hourihane thought it more important to get Wesley's confidence up than cause a scene and grab an easy pre-season goal himself.
  22. He didn't see much of the ball, everyone seems so comfortable on the ball now that they no longer take the easy option, which is often the DM, it was noticeable that BB got a whole lot more of the ball when there were wholesale changes. I'm not too worried for Conor, Walsall didn't test us enough to really need to use his position very much, he'll have other opportunites to show he's up to speed before Spuds.
