  1. Purslow looks like the cat that got the cream!!
  2. I believe he has dual nationality, one of them French so no work permit required. I can't remember if Trezeguet's permit was ever confirmed but as he played pre-season I presume it has been given to him, he has loads of international caps so his permit should not of been an issue.
  3. I've been one of those that doesn't advocate chucking £20m at Championship players, but I think I'd make exception for this guy, he looks really good, I feel he could have an Ashley Young type of impact and that has to be worth £20m nowadays.
  4. Out of interest how much would you be willing to pay for him? £20m? More?...
  5. I think Konsa and his agent were smart enough to know that Brentford would be moving him on soon enough, and didn't want to be priced out of a move as Benrahma seems to be at the moment, so they had a sensible minimum release fee inserted in the deal. When the agreement would of been made they were signing him for ~£2.5m, the release fee was over four times that, nearly five, I don't think Brentford could of asked for much more than that at the time.
  6. We didn't meet their valuation of Konsa, we met his release clause valuation, the Brentford fans on here were saying he would be £20m until the release clause came to light. I agree with your main point though, we have to meet their valuation, and that valuation is unlikely to change too much.
  7. I got Mustafi to Juventus for £44m, more chance of us signing Belotti!
  8. Could also be they aren't guaranteeing him a first team spot or enough first team action, there's no point him sitting on a bench and getting coached somewhere else when we could sit him on our bench and coach him ourselves. I would think this more just holding back until we have another striker confirmed coming in. Hogan going to Stoke sounds like it might be close, so if we let Davis go as well and failed to get another striker in we'd be looking very foolish. Our current set up don't seem to do foolish
  9. I think where The Athletic is concerned it is the articles you are paying for, this transfer Q&A is just another way of utilising the journalists they have gathered together, I don't think their intention was to have breaking transfer news behind a paywall, it's just a by product of having the journalists on their books. Somebody will put the rumours on Twitter in seconds anyway.
  10. I'm using the free trial at the moment, content seems very good, tempted by the first year at £30, not too sure about after that when it goes up to £50 p/a though, got a while to try before I buy though! https://theathletic.co.uk/checkout?pc=raf40&plan_id=45&shared_by_name=Stuart&shared_by=2507369 Selling points below
  11. There's a live transfer Q&A bit on the Athletic here: https://theathletic.com/1121497/?redirected=1 The Gregg Evans Villa relevant bit below...
  12. Agree with this, also think Engles will be good value
  13. Maldini is one of my favourite players of all time, but not many people seem to know that he had much more of an uneasy relationship with the Milan fans than Totti had with Roma's. https://gentlemanultra.com/2018/05/25/a-vanished-dream-the-story-behind-paolo-maldinis-bitter-milan-farewell/ That site has some pretty interesting articles about the Serie A era. Fills in a few lunchtimes for me anyway!
  14. I agree with all of this, it would be a good way of structuring a deal for us, but I was looking at it from Torino's point of view. They don't want or need to sell their star player, it'd be like us loaning out Grealish with an option to buy. It doesn't make sense for the selling club unless they are actively trying to move a player on.
  15. I'm not sure why Torino would agree to that, if they are going to lose their best player and captain you'd think they want some money to replace them no? Loans with an option to buy only really work for fairly specific circumstances, like when a team is trying to offload a player they are struggling to shift, this is not that scenario.
  16. Why would they accept an offer that low? He's their best player and captain, he has at least 2 years left on his contract, he has over 20 caps for Italy and is 25, so about to enter his prime years. Torino are in Europe, and don't have any financial issues that I'm aware of. They've no reason to sell. I don't see any reason why the'yd let him go so cheap, especially to a cash rich Premier League team like ourselves.
  17. My jaw certainly would drop, I think Belotti is a great player, but how much would he cost £50m? More?!
  18. There's a week left of the transfer window, we've signed... I've lost count... lots of players, and by all accounts it looks like we are after one more, we even seem to have a back up plan for that. What an incredible job the guys have done to get us in to this position, it looked a monumental task a few months ago and yet here we are. Bravo.
  19. It's just media nonsense, Wolves signed 11 player for around £100m the season they came up, but nobody mentions them in the same conversation. The difference is they seemed to have a more solid base when they came up and delayed paying some fee's until January or the end of the season. It could go either way, but we won't go down just because we've bought in lots of players and spent lots of money.
  20. He stated in the pod he didn't know who it was, just that it was an ambitious target and Maupay is plan B if it doesn't happen. I can't re-watch now as I'm at work but for those who can...
  21. The podcast was recorded last night and released this morning, would depend on when he last spoke to his source I suppose, but I doubt he'd put it out there unless he was told this information fairly recently. I don't know if I believe it myself to be honest, but I wouldn't be too surprised if there was one last big signing left in us this summer.
