  1. can any of them play right back???? we need more RB's, a bit short, all Bruce's fault, if we werent short of right backs we would be in a much better position. I tend to think the sweet spot would be 4 x RB's in defence, 5 x RB's in midfield, and a LB up front....just to balance the team of course, all good teams need balance after all. Watching Abraham, i tend to think he should be developed in to a RB, tall (wont be long balling him down their left), strong, quick, good on a front or back post at corners, might even offer some potency up front from corners? what more do we want?
  2. aaaah the old defensive trio of Barry, Ehiogu & Southgate, good times :P, what a back 3 they were.
  3. so if im understanding this, the WP isnt a problem here?
  4. not sure if this is up to date, but here is an "example": https://www.reevaldo.com/story/2016/9/15/football-work-permit-premier-league-fa-foreign-players
  5. so are Elphick and Kalinic available for this game or not?, hearing mixed reports?
  6. maybe we never even looked at his Serbian guy, and it was all just rumor / click bait? I cant imagine we would have even considered him if there was reasonable doubt that he would get a work permit, so either we never looked at him, or we did and realised he wouldnt get one quite quickly? (or maybe we thought we could get him one?, who knows)
  7. Has the kalinic transfer been officially announced by AV?, just wondering if it hasn't maybe they will announce a few transfers tomorrow?
  8. im sure i remember a press conference with DS and he was asked a question about Richards, DS basically said he wasnt fit even though he was training. The impression i got from DS's comments was he was wondering what the f*** SB was doing with him to allow him to train and not even work hard enough to raise his fitness, as if SB just let him do whatever the hell he wanted as long as he didnt annoy him or rub his face in the long standing joke. At least thats the impression i got from DS's response, reading between the lines. Would love to know what has been going on with him the last 12-18 months, if he isnt "technically injured", then what the hell has he been doing if he isnt even fit enough during training?, its like he just wallows daily in his 40k a week like a pig instead of training. Even if he isnt capable of long term play, but he isnt injured, why isnt he maintaining a level of fitness just incase we needed him in....you know......an emergency??
  9. Less consistent than Agbonlahor?, what is this wizardry???, is that even a physical possibility? oh wait, that does make sense if you meant Agbonlahor was consistently crap, and Bolasie is less consistently crap?, but also not consistently good
  10. why do you think SB didnt fancy him?, was it a personal clash or do you think SB didnt like him as a player?
  11. also, i havent really seen much of Elphick, how good is he on the ball? (ie: not panicking and picking a pass?)
  12. i honestly cant see that to be honest, him and Chester are now our only two fit CB's, and Chester is carrying an injury and playing through it, common sense dictates we must be looking for at least one more CB. Chester might need a rest to assist his recovery, or god forbid Chester or Ephlick get injured, we are back down to one CB? I would bet money we sign another CB in Jan (subject to when Axel is out until - as i dont actually know?)
  13. any news or developments on Radoja and/or Doukoure?, seems to have gone quiet? Also, anyone else seen any other remotely factual reports of targets?
  14. does anyone know anything about this Doukoure dude? Is he decent on the ball for a DMC?, my other concern is he's an ivory coast international (if thats true?), all that means to me is we will lose him for multiple games while hes off playing for the Ivory Coast in numerous badly timed international tournaments. also...on loan?.....another one. found this, only short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS25v8KYKXo
  15. probably agree with that tbh (the positions we need), although maybe Bree could be given a run at RB?, we then still have numerous RB's and more can be invested in the CB/LB/DMC positions. I also think we need an AMC though, with Grealish out and we dont know how long for, he has been a real miss, we need another player with similar capabilities, our midfield hasnt been the same since he has been out. Finally I believe Chester has been carrying an injury for a whilr and if we actually got a couple of competent CB he would likely need a decent period of rest and recovery, whether that's Elphick and another CB we sign i dont know?
  16. Just watched the highlights vs Preston (away): 1) Nyland dropping that corner, that was straight at him and they hit the bar - shocking 2) Elmo OG - shocking 3) Numerous long balls over the top making us look like 5ft midgets playing football - shocking 4) the long ball where they hit the post - shocking I think there is a trend developing here Please let us get some good signings in Jan....pleeeeeaaasseee! Still entirely supportive of DS tho, not his fault we are in such a mess defensively, granted he could play more defensively and replicate bruce ball, but i would much rather he stuck to his guns, i think we can all see what he is trying to do here, and he needs a little time to sort this mess of a squad out, and implement his own ideas. We do have some good players, but i really think half of them dont suit the system at all, even if they are ok in principle, they just arent sharp, quick, agile, intelligent, composed enough etc, in all honesty the only players i can see in a final DS lineup (of players that we currently own) are Kalinic, Chester (even though i dont rate Chester that much), McGinn & Grealish, the rest just arent good enough for the system i dont think, even if they are reasonable by average standards. There was a very interesting post on the Brentford FC forums, where it quoted a Villa fan saying "i bet DS is licking his lips at being able to work with our excellent attacking players", and the Brentford poster said "i think quite soon the Villa fans will realise most of their players arent good enough or suited to the style of play that DS will want to implement - and its gonna be funny when they do realise it" - to be honest this guy deserves a medal, and is totally right. I dont see this as a negative for DS at all, i just think its a bit of a reality check for us, which is fine, we will get there and i have faith in DS that we will get the right players, even if it takes us until next season to get all the pieces of the jigsaw in place. In reality we have been doing ok, one loss in 9, lots of goals scored, great football at times, but the Axel and Grealish loss has impacted us i think, onwards and upwards and i look forward to a productive Jan transfer window.

  18. That's pretty irrelevant, it just means we got a poor player for a few million, many clubs manage to pick up absolute gems for peanuts.
  19. To be honest this kinda shows that our players aren't as good as we think they are. Yes we have a few good players, but half the team is just a joke. I don't think it's any coincidence our form has dropped without Grealish and Axel. (And ironically Taylor)
  20. oh my lord that miss by BB, the footballing gods truly hate Villa.
  21. because we have spent multiple years wasting multiple millions with no clear and concise plan!?!? Even Usain Bolt would be sub par if all he did was eat lard
