  1. I'm curious what you think he could have done with his arm? It was already in a natural position away from his body. It deflects as he moves his arm further away then retracts his arm as close to his body as possible. It then hits the top of his arm as its by his side. There's no way it's a penalty. Never in a million years is that given against United.
  2. Maguire handball not one if the Bournemouth one was? Personally I think neither were. Not even close.
  3. In fairness, that was outside the box, but it doesn't change the fact the ref didn't even want to give it and already showed his true bias several times over. You can only do that so much
  4. But he gave it knowing it probably gets overturned by the Corrupt VAR....probably.
  5. And now ignoring a blatant corner. Corrupt or biased...one or the other
  6. There's blatant bias in this refs performance
  7. You're seeing things if you think he moved towards it. He's standing there, the ball is coming at his arm and he has nowhere to move it so tries one way then the other but it still hits him when it's down by his side. Absolute joke of a decision.
  8. How on earth has the ref given that. Has to be over turned
  9. It's a joke of a system and process. They've convoluted and made subjective the things VAR can get involved in to the point where anything they do can be argued as correct. Even when it is demonstrably and completely wrong. I don't mind the concept of VAR (getting wrong/missed decisions corrected)... but if this is the best they can come up with it needs scrapping. I'm sure it could be done better, but not by the people at PGMOL, the Premier League or the FA.
  10. Indeed. It could be a cut that will be healed and no potential recurrence delay, or a niggle that is undergoing a scan that may reveal more. No guarantees Emery even reveals more but he's generally been quite open so I'd definitely be asking!
  11. But we don't need to win the tie. So zero on a good night for our defence could also be enough. (Edit: I know a 0-0 for Emery is an extremely rare occurrence so probably a pointless comment) They'll look to control the ball at home, much the same way they did at villa park. They will be maybe slightly more adventurous, and that should play into our ability to exploit the gaps that brings in transition. I'm predicting a high scoring game. David surely won't be as bad as he was last night, but if we're in it, we'll find more chances ourselves. So logic would point to a higher scoring game. If it goes that way, I'd expect us to get the better of it. If its a cagey affair with few opportunities then I'd be more concerned strangely.
  12. It does, but all the chances they missed that Emi saved, they were purely down to football being football. We know Emi is world class, we accept that our high line will demand saves from him. I believe one of his great saves would have been brought back for offside if it had gone in anyway. We scored two, and should have had a penalty to probably make it 3. So overall, you can say our gameplay worked and should have got a more positive scoreline than we did. Emery knows we are relatively poor at defending corners, and so he prefers to just not concede then in the first place. We let them have too many opportunities to win a corner, and conceding 3 will be something Emery will probably be as unhappy about as conceding a goal from one. He doesnt want to compromise the way we play 90% of the match just to have better personnel at defending a corner. Not least because injuries mean we probably can't anyway. It's all a balancing act, and one Emery continues to do exceptionally well. Hopefully we can get more players in like Rogers who have both the technical ability and the height and strength to win a defensive header.
  13. This sounds like something totally not football related
  14. Would have been a pretty soft free kick. They don't get given generally these days. There wasn't a pull or drag, just a putting of his arm in the way
  15. I'd being KKH on at right back. It's a gamble but we are so exposed with Carlos at the back. It's more of a gamble to leave it as is imho. Something needs to change in the middle of the pitch too. Youri has done some decent interceptions and tackles, but between those moments we're getting torn apart. Maybe Tim on for Tielemans. Another gamble but again, one I think we need to take due to the way we're currently exposing the back line.
  16. Without wanting to tempt fate, David isn't a patch on Watkins...
  17. But he has been part of our only decent 11 over the last few weeks. Current form, fitness, tiredness affected maybe, but he's a player in form.
  18. Didn't stop him a week before, or others playing at the same time but guess it makes sense. And then presumably a tactical decision today as described by @srsmithusa. Either way, it's a strong team and we have at least one option on the bench. Possibly two depending on which Zaniolo turns up.
  19. That's what I thought and why I asked if he did something? Maybe a knock or a disagreement with Unai? There's no real explanation he was rested at the weekend and not playing tonight, I'm a little confused. At least we have him as an option to change the game.
  20. Surprised no Diaby. Has he done something to upset Unai? Otherwise I like that team.
  21. It's such a shame we're so injury depleted. Cash, Lenglet, Mings, Kamara, Ramsey would likely all be starting if they were fit and we had a preferred European night's team. As it is, we can't rotate our center backs, we have to play one of them at right back, we have to play an inexperienced or makeshift DM, and we have to play an out of form option in LM. That's such a crippling set of factors. And yet, despite the above having been the case for nearly the whole season, Emery keeps pulling out results. Yes, things are biting a bit more now with the lack of rotation starting to hurt our fitness, but this first leg comes at a good time for us if we're willing to go full strength. Watkins has had a mini rest, Zaniolo is showing signs of getting in to form, Rogers has scored his first goal and should be perfectly match fit and relatively well rested, Diaby is back in form and barely played the last game, Luiz won't have to conserve himself for the weekend, and McGinn is back from suspension so should be very well rested (but maybe a little rusty). It's going to be a really tough game with Lille very much on form, but we have to play to our strengths. Those strengths will be in attack. Go all out, get an early goal and knock their confidence. Get the fans on their feet and we can press on and get 2 or 3. Can't wait for tonight.
  22. The problem is there far more bad than good. And, with the caveat of us being a top 4 club, the good just feels like him being gifted open goals rather than actually delivering something. I want him to be good, as it means we don't have to fire and pay him off, but I've yet to see anything from him, that is independently attributable to him, that I like. You forgot AU50 as well. The crest situation is probably his most egregious failure though, given the track record he came with from the 76ers
  23. Isn't what they're doing similar to what wwe were planning or others proposed NSWE did. Essentially the owner would fund the North stand/new stadium themselves and lease it back to the club so the FFP impacts are none existent as there's no debt or interest on the club itself? This is totally feasible within the realms of FFP. What isn't feasible is that they'll be able to go on a mega spending spree now or any time in the next 6 years, or that they'll have sole use of the stadium. Whether they long term become successful or find the lease payments too steep for the club to sustain will be interesting. Edit: what's more interesting is whether it actually even happens.
  24. I assure you there was zero luck involved in that transaction.
