  1. I'm surprised people aren't mentioning Sheffield United in Cardiff's run in. That could easily be another fixture where they drop points.
  2. Absolutely brilliant result. We are showing at the right time that we are hitting our prime. This result was huge for a number of reasons. The biggest for me being that we know we can beat anyone in the league, comprehensively. It's not guaranteed that we will get automatic promotion, but it is guaranteed that we can beat anyone in the playoff places on our day. Keep winning and hopefully we will get a top 2 place, but if we don't, forget about what any of us fear about the playoffs, this Villa team is ready to face anyone and win. I don't want to predict where they will drop points, but Cardiff have Derby, Sheffield United and Wolves to play before we meet them again. Could be a very important fixture if we hold form.
  3. Might've been a discussion on here already, excuse me if it has been. What are peoples thoughts on Kodjia being able to perform in the Premier League?

    Wolves

Thanks champ. Some interesting reading. From my perspective, it would seem like there's good reason to question the integrity of their setup. Maybe nothing will come of it, but if someone is potentially illegitimatey gaming the system an investigation is due.
  5. As long as the team is set up to take the game to them and attack I don't mind who plays out of Grabban or Davis. I think it will be Grabban. But I like the idea of Davis playing. Decent build up play and will be able to hold it up and bring others in to the attack. As long as we outscore them it doesn't matter who's goal tally is what.
  6. Wolves are beatable, just looking at their loss to Fulham shows that they can be beaten with some attacking nous. We easily have enough quality in our side to create the chances that Fulham did. Hopefully our strategy is to attack and play the game to our tempo. There's no reason we can't expect a result here, we have the quality. All that remains is the tactics and belief. Really hoping we play for the win here and send a signal of intent that we are by no means here to make up the numbers. I don't care if we have to go through the playoffs, I just want to continue seeing a quality Villa side giving it their all to get back to the Premier League. A win at Wolves would show we have grown some teeth and are capable of taking any scalp, the confidence would be invaluable.

    Wolves

What are VT's thoughts on Wolves transfer dealings? I'm familiar with what's happened to an extent, but am unaware as to why it's an issue.
  8. Bit disappointed for Spurs. They were up against class opposition though and Juve should have had the first goal of the game with that penalty not given. Only have themselves to blame. Spurs only created so many chances because Juve went all out pressing them. Entertaining tie for sure. Here's hoping Chelsea vs Barca is half as entertaining.
  9. Was really hoping Leeds would get something from the game but Wolves keep their cushion.
  10. It's about a decade. Juventus haven't been that bad, they've just pressed all out and made it wide open. Should of had a pen and gone 0-1 up, making it a different game completely.
  11. Blatant pen for Juve not given against Tottenham.
  12. I have no idea what the 1945 bit is about!
  13. Yes, we could be eliminated in the playoffs, it's still possible we miss them altogether. It's going to be an exciting finish for us. It's vital, in my opinion, that we take points from Wolves, Cardiff and Derby. Not just for our automatic promotion hopes, every edge is going to be needed there, but it will show for me that we can beat those teams around us. I think the Derby fixture could've gone either way last time, but it didn't, and while we've shown we're not going to be an easy task come playoffs, I don't think we've cemented ourselves as concrete favourites to go up in that scenario. The fixtures against Wolves, Cardiff and Derby might may or may not determine our automatic promotion, but it will definitely be an indicator of where we are at against the other top sides a month away from playoffs. I'm not particularly worried about playoffs. I back us to go all the way. Whether we get the results in these three fixtures or not, that's all I'll be cheering for. In the event we are in playoffs, as mentioned earlier, there will be disappointment amongst the group about missing automatic promotion, and they will have to fight through that for two more games. Having wins against top sides like Wolves, Cardiff and Derby will be a psychological booster and more than likely of meant we have put in solid performances. The 3-0 against Sunderland was a breeze. And I'd be extremely surprised if we see that level of performance in a playoff, so fixtures like this mean little apart from points on the board.
  14. It's still in our hands as far as I'm concerned. There's nearly 20% of the season to go, or 33 points to play for, and we are just 4 points off Cardiff, including a fixture against Cardiff. It's technically in their hands but I would be very surprised if they go undefeated for the rest of the campaign.
  15. 1) Agree 2) It's basically in our hands. Beat Cardiff in that 6 pointer and we are 1 point off deciding our own fate.
  16. I've only been a weekly supporter since 2010 but I've never been more excited about a Villa player. That includes Benteke at his best. Or Young, Downing and Bent when all three were in the England squad whilst playing for us. Delph, Albrighton.. There's not another that comes close except Benteke, and three of the six names mentioned went on to win the Premier League. Am thoroughly enjoying watching him play for us, long may it continue. Other clubs will be able to compete financially next year should we go up. We'll need quality players in the squad more than money if we want to succeed, and even as leverage to bring others of quality in. Jack is truly pivotal in our immediate future. Terry will not be here for long, and those that do stay will need leadership both in spirit and footballing ability to take us up that extra step to the next level. It's an absolute pleasure to watch him play football. I only hope we see him continue to grow and improve in to a leader and Villa legend.
  17. If you look at the form table and the number of games left, Wolves finishing outside of automatic places is on the cards. Now I'm not suggesting I think that they will drop out, I'm just pointing out that they are riding their early lead and are far from invincible. Just imagine Bristol finish 6th and we play them, if 5-0 is anything to go by, it won't be us doing the crumbling! It would've been nicer to smash everyone in the league, but as long as we beat them when it counts, I can forgive some losses to the top end sides.
  18. To be fair, he came from Valencia, not exactly a small club. One of the last times we went in for a relatively unknown from a big club we lost in our bid to sign Coutinho from Inter for 8.5 million.
  19. 10 or 11 games to go is still a significant portion of the season. If this kind of form continues and we beat our rivals in the run in, it would be us and Fulham in automatic places. Exciting times!
  20. Thanks, I overlooked that. Go Leeds!
  21. I would be happy with this team. Great opportunity to level the score with Wolves and make a statement coming in to the final stages of the season. What a confidence boost a win would be here for our team. It would give us a lot more belief in the big games that come after it without doubt. We conceded 2nd spot to Cardiff recently, this is the perfect opportunity to make amends, winning would put us 4 points behind Wolves.
