  1. That's more or less my take on it Zaha flattens McGinn ... Mings jumps over McGinn to get to where the ball is. Whether he wants to exert a little bit of retribution for the flattening of McGinn, I don't know. Don't know whether he catches Zaha intentionally or not. Zaha appears to be upset with Mings and appears to want to get to Mings. Mings appears willing for Zaha to get to him, but team mates prevent the getting together. What surprises me is when Zaha is complaining to the referee, I did not see him pointing to the stud marks on the back of his calf? I certainly would have been if I had been raked. Of course appearances are not always what they seem to be.
  2. Two other things I noticed 1) Grealish looking for Watkins and Watkins knowing where to be found 2) In the second half Villa looked excellent on the fast break
  3. OK here's my take on the game ... Villa made Palace a middle of the table team look incredibly poor. The team played really well including Mings. Martinez was the MOTM for me ,,, he did everything right ... slowed and sped up the game as he saw fit. From my point of view he stopped Palace getting back into the game. Regarding the yellow, not sure the rake of the studs was intentional ... I suspect he got the first yellow for the altercation with Zaha ... which in my opinion was undeserved as his teammates prevented anything from developing. The second yellow? I would have done the same thing when the ref did not call the push in the back by Zaha. Grealish ... I thought by his standards his performance was below his par, that is not to say it was not excellent in anyway. Feel sorry for Ollie, but as someone pointed out he was a part of each goal. Targett had some really excellent tackles. An excellent team effort.
  4. I was hoping for a more nuanced view on Mings' apparent failings.
  5. Here are some things that piss me off at times more or less in order of immenseness. War Pestilence Trump Brexit Boris Putin People's stupidity The fact Villa spent time in the third division Blues fans Mings sometimes making an unnecessary mistake. OK I am joking about the Blues fans, they don't piss me off at all, don't get them around where I live, but I just added them to the list to fit in a bit. Of course this is an absolutely abbreviated list, but should suffice for now. I was wondering where Mings' occasional unnecessary mistake would fit in on that immenseness list for you.
  6. Just watched Smith's post match interview. With all the ads for home improvement and home tools in the background, it would lead one to think that West Brom is a bit of a fixer upper.
  7. Did any one notice some of the advertising? "The Lord is my shepherd" Really? I don't think it was referring to Big Sam?
  8. At the 80 minute mark I was wondering, who am I going to choose as MOTM? At the 82nd minute I thought Traore, at the 84th Traore scores a sneaky beaut. For me the MOTM could have gone to Grealish or El Ghazi as well. Honourable mentions to Luiz, Mings and McGinn. The rest were boring old 7s. Having said that it was against a very poor West Brom. The red and yellow cards I understand ... thought the referee was average. The penalty I thought was a bit soft ... to me it looked like the foul had started outside of the box, but it did end up in the box. The offside ... I wish they would sort out the offside rule. Watkin's foot was just in an offside position I thought. A defender's hand was to my mind over the line. A few weeks earlier a hand (I think it might have been Ollie's) was deemed offside. So it would appear the rule does not apply consistently to attackers and defenders. First time I have had chance to watch a Villa game all the way through in a while
  9. It's way better than being games ahead.
  10. While I understand Europa Cup may not be an attraction ... realistically will Villa get to the Champions league by-passing this stage of competition? I might agree we don't want to get there before there is a stronger team in place?
  11. Maybe we can post a traffic direction sign on the M6 ... Coleshill and the East
  12. I have to disagree strongly on two counts here: 1) one guy 2) too far one guy is clearly an insufficient number and too far is plainly an inadequate description of the Chief of Police's position. But I agree with your There's always I wonder if the Chief is a Christian?
  13. He inherited an economy that was steadily improving ... he did not screw that up. Chinese battery company? Is it a lead battery? If so I bet a good chunk of that lead came from an Alaskan mine and a Canadian company. We live in an interconnected world.
  14. If you look at the actual data it is not so clear https://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/cps_charts.pdf
  15. But did Trump actually do anything? We can say he did not screw up the economy ... Here is a review I wrote last year, based on the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources.
  16. Assuming a win, a loss and a draw are equally probable, then we would expect a team to win their opening five matches once every 240 years. Winning 4 in a row a team might be expected to do so every 80 years and that would be for a team that typically might get 50 points in the season. Now, we could say at the beginning of the season history and the odds of winning five in a row would be against us. Today if the the possibility of beating Leeds is one in three then winning five in a row is also one in three. I suppose technically the odds are against us at one in three ... assuming the the odds are equi-probable for a win, a loss or a draw..
  17. The first football match I ever saw was Villa vs Leicester sixty years ago in October at Villa Park. Villa lost 3:1. I want revenge.
  18. Came up from the workshop an hour ago ... and remembered to check the score on the BBC website ... read Villa humble ... 7:2 ... oh no and then read further Villa humble Liverpool. 7:2 Followed the Villa when they were in the third division ... Today's result has to be the most satisfying single result I can remember.
  19. That was a terrible cross, nobody there; and for God's sake it went into the net. Nobody can score when the ball is already in the the net. Bertrand out.
  20. Yep all sorts of people can be nice. I do my civic duty and invite my JWs in and keep them long as possible, pointing out the inconsistences in their postilions. Your JWs drink coffee? I got the impression they did not. Could be wrong. Sadly they don't seem to come any more. On another note. Regarding the two major Abrahamic faiths ... I never got the hang of believing ... 2000 y ago an angel came to a lady called Miriam (or whatever it is in Aramaic) and foretold of a godly inspired birth (by some accounts, a parthenogenetic birth). This belief is beyond my skill set. Could a passing Christian or Muslim Villa fan explain where Jesus got his Y chromosome from?
  21. A little bit about myself and a juxtaposition of Aston Villa and religion … nothing terribly original
