  1. I don't think adding to the financial restraints by sacking the manager, hiring a new manager, bringing in their coaching staff whilst compensating the old coaching staff is the way Dr T will go... They only way I see Bruce not here next season is if he decided to walk... he's had a very tough 9-12 months with life and could totally understand it if he does
  2. my first post on this thread as I didn't think FFP would be an issue (until the weekend) Hoping to gain some insight to our issue, I understand the concept but has anyone got any reliable links or articles that specify our problem would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Just read that Lampard is interested in signing his mate Terry... would that mean Curtis Davies would be available? Thought he was good against us in the 1 - 1 draw, would definitely take him back
  4. its easier said than done... if we finished midtable but played attractive football id say VT would be a lot more hostile than it is currently
  5. I agree there might not be many champ sides looking to appoint him, but there's definitely some fans that are pleading that way. I applaud the Brentford way and find it intriguing however I don't believe the strategy is for all clubs and Villa with its high expectations would not get away with it. My point on Dean Smith is that his next club wherever he ends up (if and once he moves on) would be taking a big risk, imho I don't think Villa are at that point to be taking such a risk although our hands may be forced due to FFP
  6. we'd need a new owner bud... lots of people floating his name about but I wouldn't be giving him the adulation. Kinda like why Hogan was destined to fail at another club that don't play a certain 'style' http://www.punditarena.com/football/english-football/thepateam/moneyball-matthew-benham-brentford-fc-unorthodox-quest-success/
  7. totally agree with snoddy... as the season wore on he seemed to become slower and slower... the way we play we need pace out wide I preferred us playing with Thor as the DM as we were more fluid in the middle of the park... while not as strong as Jedi I was surprised how good his positioning was, for me this is the way forward and either Jedi or Whelan to close out the game off the bench when needed. Maybe even replace Terry with Jedi? at this point in time. Im pretty sceptical of the 40m number...
  8. id be flabbergasted if a premier league team came after Hourihane and would gladly take a premier league type fee for him if one came
  9. Just like Sunderland, Hull and Boro last season? or maybe like us the year before? I think we all agree its very difficult to bounce straight back up
  10. I usually love your posts and enjoy looking at your profile pic so keep it up but I cant see how we don't challenge next year im sure we will find a keeper to replace Johnstone which wont come at a huge costs, probably net neutral from the money we are supposedly getting for Gollini Terry leaves so be it, elphick comes in as third choice meaning we really need 1 more CB - potentially a loan for Tuanzebe. Mind you De Leat comes back as well. Snoddy goes, in comes Green who if fit probably would be starting ahead of him imho, out goes Grabban in comes a fit Kodj I think the starting line up is just about there for next year barring anyone coming in with over the top money for Chester or Grealish I cant see any others departing who would be missed with a few shrewd loanings, we will be better than this year! UTV
  11. I think Bruce will be the manager for the first game... what happens then is up to him and the results id be a bit wary of any club appointing Dean Smith, from hat ive read about Brentford I don think he has much say about anything - tactics, transfers and even subs
  12. tim krul and Michel vorm both available for free transfers if Johnstone doesn't stay, didn't realise that Krul is only 30 Huth might be a good shout as a replacement for Terry also available on a free. Someone else mentioned Tuanzebe coming back on loan and playing as a CB, would be interesting to see him play in that position as he certainly isn't good enough at right back With Kodj and Green back, imo are better options then grabban and snoddy. Id bring in one (or two) young pacy type out wide as back up, the young fella (Asoro i think) from Sunderland looked ok If Grealish leaves then so be it, loved watching him play and ill definitely watch his career with great interest wherever he goes. At the end of the day and I know its not all about stats, but he only scored 3 goals and 6 assists in 30 odd games. If we can use the funds wisely, we'll be a better team for it in the end
  13. needs to go.. I hope Thor makes the DM position his own next season and one of either Mile or Whelan as back up. Gardner not needed anywhere else on the park
  14. it is embarrassing that we are in this division, but I know where you're coming from, I enjoy having the expectation of winning in every match we play and love celebrating a win... we wouldn't get that much in the PL but id still rather be there
  15. finally a post that I agree with wholeheartedly... ive had time to let the outcome sink in so here comes my two cents I don't think the best team won on the day, yes Fulham dominated the first half but equally we dominated the second half, the game could have gone either way all bar the ugly goal imo on the back of poor positioning by Hutton (who has been good for us) at left back getting caught out and it was a simple pass to make. Bruce choose to make his subs and im not sure why he is getting abused for it, Mile was the obvious option to come off and Kodija was always going to come on if we were chasing a goal. I personally would have taken off grabban as he had a quiet game but so be it the right players came on Also don't agree with the naysayers that the future is bleak. I think we have the bulk of the team for next year and remember, loans will still be available next season. Kodjia comes into the starting line up out goes grabban who doesn't need replacing (we have KD and RHM), out goes snoddy and in comes green. Out goes Johnstone and in comes Gollini... with a run of games who knows what he can be and as others have mentioned on VT, Steer could be just about ready to take the no. 1. Out goes Terry - I don't believe we're overly losing out here if we can replace him with a Flint or Huth or someone that wont hurt the bank too much. Onomah and Tuanzebe wont be missed. Not sure who else is rumoured to be leaving I can see the important ones staying The white elephant is Jack. I truly hope he does stay cos I think he could take us up next year from a full season of him however wont begrudge him going to a premier league team. There is a pro if he does leave, we'll get a massive fee for him no doubt which could fund a replacement for his position, a CB and a LB all together. whether its Bruce for next year I wont be disappointed if he does stay, this year was a very difficult year for him in all aspects of life and If the board back him in for another season so will I. More importantly, we look to the transfer window and hopefully make some shrewd acquisitions to top up the current crop we have and we go again next year!
  16. Have a feeling if we do go up, big Tone will go nuts with the transfers ala his first season here to ensure we stay in the prem
  17. funny that I got this game back a few weeks ago and started playing!
  18. cant begrudge him if he decides to leave for a premier league side if we don't go up this year
  19. so if its not Smith, who's the brains behind the tactics? to pass to a teammate and control the ball rather then send it long in hope? maybe the system/strategy of the club might not be transferrable, but surely the tactics on field is? and yes apologise for going off topic but its an interesting topic
  20. you can breathe again, he's going into management which is a scary thought in itself!
  21. on that note, whens the last time you saw anyone not play a poor game in their position?
  22. I think we underestimate the importance of this guy for the balance of the team. When he plays well, we tend to win more times than not
  23. in other points to note: Tuanzebe is not a right back, gave us nothing going forward, Elmo needs to start Grealish cant shoot We cant afford to play Jedi, the game against Blues was a long time ago and that's the only game he's was good due to the long ball crap they played. Bjarn has to start in DM Kodja's lax attitude is gonna piss a lot of fans off (again)
  24. 1st half we dominated and should have gone to the break up, but the second half was pathetic! We still haven't addressed this issue from last season, it amazes me how it happens to Villa and I don't see it in other games. With the players we have, this shouldn't be happening, I can understand losing in a smash and grab or generally having a bad day out, but we tend to not turn up for one of the halves and throw it away
  25. Im sure there's a lot of us that have either contemplated or taken part in gaming during work hours. Looking to fully utilise the benefits of my own office with a low spec / online game that can keep me awake during the day and wondering what my options are falling short of loading up Champ Manager 00/01 on the laptop.
