Fascinating tactical and in game management game between Emery and Lopetegui.
  2. Wouldn’t say he’s too arsed about that right now.
  3. He’s actually so bad isn’t he. Only reason he had a modicum of success at Derby was because of his name he was able to get Mount and Tomori. Do something else with your time Frank - this ain’t for you.

It was excellent. Cash is a confidence player and sometimes he can look quite nervy when he’s the last line of defence. Also, following Villa since 92. I never recall us getting beat by Liverpool and creating the amount of chances we did against them the other day. When they beat us they come hear and tickle our belly and it’s very easy for them and never much joy at Anfield. The players didn’t put the chances away from the system Emery came up with

There is time’s when things are literally black and white. We’ve taken punts in the past and been caught up on the emotion. (Gregory, Little, Smith ) connections playing or otherwise. When the adrenaline factor that they are riding as much as we are as fans when the honeymoon period is still there and then their true coaching ability comes to pass thereafter. We’ve gone and got a seriously well credentialed and elite coach. This is what happens when you don’t make emotional decisions.
  6. His biggest weakness is he overestimates his own physical strength. I wince when Bunedia takes the ball into a ruck. Gets overturned and puts us on the back foot all over. Has classy skills but needs to be a bit more self aware.
  7. In my naivety I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t know what the position / role is exactly he’s been asked to fulfill. He’s certainly not in the game as much but McGinn used to kind of aimlessly run everywhere in midfield at times so maybe a more defined role suits him. School me people. Is he providing cover on that side and let Bailey concentrate on my offensive matters ? Not been a smartass, genuinely want insight.

The wolves game will be interesting with the onus on us to take the initiative as the home side. As you quite rightly pointed out ,didn’t work against Liverpool. You would be a fool not to respect the talent Wolves possess on any given day in Moutinho, Neves and Nunes. Emery knows Lopetegui inside out. The reverse is also true. I think it will be the most difficult actually of the perceived winnable games we have coming up. Would of much preferred them when Lage or Davis in charge. Lopetegui turning them already.

    Matty Cash

For sure. Was almost like Emery was the first one at this club to remember this kid played most of his early career on the right wing .

Spot on. Emery had a modest playing career , at best. Obviously a very common misconception that somebody with a playing career like his can’t command respect and directive from players who have reached levels he couldn’t as a player. His body of work speaks for itself. That’s what gets their respect AND sustains it. Gerrard is like the Tinder bird you haven’t properly screened. You match with her. You are drawn in by the surface level stuff but when you actually get to know her she’s kinda dull and not that interesting. ( I’ve had a few, bank holiday weekend and we won )
  12. Said it earlier also - show me a midfielder at the moment who is playing at his level with the ability to tackle without going off his feet . It’s such a low risk move. If he isn’t going all elbows in - he isn’t fouling.
  13. What you touched on about his reading of the game is so true. The 2nd goal. I think he nicked it off Kane. Speed of foot is often seen as the be all and end all. A to B starts in your head. His game intelligence seen that. He’s not the quickest with his feet but his footballing IQ is elite.
  14. My brother said this to me too “ why ings , who scored twice against Brighton is benched for Ollie “ Team game. Ollie is a more complete player. Danny probably doesn’t chase down Lloris’s spilled shot, loads of stuff he doesn’t do that needs doing and the whole thing falls apart if the work don’t come from up top.
  15. That was so good. Many a player wouldn’t of chased that down. He was running down dead ends under Gerrard. Looks interested again. He has that nastiness back too where he was physically very imposing for centre halves in his maiden premier league season. He had lost that.

It’s 5 games but i can honestly say I’ve never enjoyed it this much since Gregory and John was far from elite but to each their own. Speaking personally. The level of excitement i felt at that time is akin to this. And i was 13 or so then. Wasn’t looking at that team through the lens of a 38 year old as i am know with an appreciation for the finer aspects. His detail, in game management. Clearly works the bollocks off them in training. Doesn’t start anyone where it seems the message isn’t landing. Shocked at Cash not starting ? Graham Hunter told us all this when he was appointed. The information is loaded, if you are open and willing to take stuff on board you’ll be taken along for the ride . Yes Young is 37. He’s also a consummate pro who’s played at Man United and Inter and Villa first time round. Guy is probably impressing Emery no end.

    Matty Cash

I’ve always thought Matty isn’t brave enough. It’s for effect his intent but doesn’t do it with any genuineness. Defensively and offensively. Zero **** given by Emery too that he’s started for an international side at the world cup

His decision making in the selections you noted and when it would of been easy to fold like a deck chair when Brighton had a great start against us, suggests to me he has unwavering confidence in his ability and knows what he is about.
  19. Yet your logic for starting Coutinho is ? ( he did nothing wrong in his cameo but reaching for theatrics if you say he was outstanding ) So you want to start a player who the masses would argue has played worse than Buendia for sometime now based on the fact he “ might “ still have it.

Bloke is probably sat at home just finished watching Stevenege’s last 3 games in full and has mountains of notes on them.

Same. Nobody here compared Emery to Garde. I’d confidently say not one did. His appointment was met with huge optimism.

His in game decision making is man and boy stuff as regards him and Gerrard. Bailey hooked for Cash on the right wing and McGinn on the left , Gerrard doesn’t see that in a million years. Not a chance.
  23. He’s superb. The way the game is gone you are at nothing tackling and going to ground to do so. Even if you win the ball, he’ll give a free against you. This guy has the ability to tackle whilst staying upright. Wins the ball, because he isn’t sliding he can’t be penalised for a follow through. So essentially the only way Kamara is giving away a free is if he is overly physical with elbows in a tackle - which he isn’t. He can’t shoot for shite but i don’t care
