  1. Our setup isn't similar to Brighton's though because we've got a sporting director in Suso and a manager in Smith who are not compatible, at all, nothing even close to been. Like been told who his assistant manager was going to be when he got the call of the job offer, he got told he had to work with a sporting director he had zero chemistry or similar football ideologies with. Brighton, much different. Dan Ashworth wanted Brighton to play a certain way when he came in, acquire a certain player to fit that way of playing and a manger to implement that style of play. He dispensed of Hughton ( good manager btw ) and went after Potter. And it's not like Suso is just in the door either, i don't see sweeping cultural changes around the club.
  2. But a very good coach can improve the collective ability of team who's individual ability might not be top notch. Improving shape, tactically more aware, positionally better and improving little nuances in a players game. Southampton may have better players than us individually but not by much but as a team they are head and shoulders above us. They got a genuine world class manager. I don't think one can understate the impact Fernandes has had. Looks like he's walked in and took over the dressing room. My point basically though is, if between now and next season we think we are going to be lumbered with most of what we've got, the only logical solution is spend money on a seriously well credentialed ( preferably continental coach ) who might make this lot better with shape, intensity, fitter, tactically better footballers. Definition of insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting different results. If Smith can't get mistakes, poor play, half arsed efforts ironed out of these lads by now - give it to someone who might be able to.
  3. Then we've turned down a sizeable fee for a player who won't want to be here and could down tools, like last night ( talks of rebuilds, projects won't sway him this time, he absolutely will not want to play championship football, factor in the euro's also ) So i say it again , Cantwell goes for 40 million people think that's about right. Talk of Grealish for 40 million and people lose their nut. Both have one promotion each. Both about to be relegated. Comparable number of goals. Oh sorry, Jack most fouled player - that would drive it up to pogba type figures. My bad.
  4. And you have an over inflated opinion of our players. I never said sell mings for less. I said if we got what we paid for him, id take it. Can you honestly keep a 40 million pound asset ( and i guarantee you right now if we are relegated, it's what we'll get for Grealish ) on the books, in the championship + he won't want to be here. Trezeguet comment made in jest but he is absolutely crap.
  5. If you think Grealish and Trezeguet and Mings are worth are a combined 100 million, what are they worth individually for you to arrive at that figure ? If somebody out there is stupid enough to pay us the 20 million we paid Bournemouth for that dosser, id snap their hand off. Are we still living in cloud cuckoo land with the Grealish 50 - 60 million talk. Guy was a disgrace last night. Performance and attitude were horrendous. Trezeguet ? I wouldn't insult a team asking for a fee for him. I'll ask you this. Grealish is a stand out player in a poor team. Cantwell a stand out player in a poor team. Neither capped internationally at senior level. Both about to be relegated. There is nobody, absolutely nobody talking about 50 60 ( or some drinking the deluded juice on here with 80 million talk about Grealish ) when it comes to Cantwell. Wait, i should apologise, Jack is the proud owner of the most useless stat in football. Most fouled player. All the points that puts on the board for us.
  6. I don't see how we can do so much activity in terms of changing manager , sporting director, players in and players out in a quick turnaround. Dates of August 29th and September 12th been put about for next season starts for the championship
  7. TOP DEFINITION clutching at straws Out of desparation, the act of reaching or stretching for a solution, no matter how irrational or inconsequential.
  8. Rose just took Monchengladbach to the champions league. C'mon mate. It's not football manager.
  9. 49 point Burnley heading into their 5 consecutive PL season, Dyche ? Yeah that would be just awful, wouldn't it.
  10. Marsch actually, probably attainable. RB Salzburg dominating in Austria doesn't really get you much credit in the bank, kinda like Celtic in Scotland. Seems to of been kept in the Red Bull structure a long time now and unless Nagelsmann is Bayern bound, can't see him leaving Leipzig anytime soon. But look the whole thing looks tearing up here ( every year seemingly with us ) Red Bull teams are a well oiled machine from top to bottom. It's not just a manager.
  11. Some of the names bandied around here are bordering on the insane. Pochetino and Gallardo - really get their juices flowing managing a championship bound team still dining out on Leeds '96.
  12. Loves the limelight too. The interviews. Going into the sky sports news studios was cringe giving that interview pre season.
  13. I could take Belgium to a world cup semi final with the squad he had/has. Biggest spoofed in the game and great to see his disciples graeme jones and henry been found out too.
  14. Same opposition. Lost also, but boy this Villa team would go through a brick wall for each other and they were bloody good. I was 11 watching this. My heart was racing. So exciting. We were just so honest, to a man. We were United's nuisance of a team in that 2 to 3 year spell. They're Newcastle and Arsenal of the mid to late 90s. Tonight was just sad. Had to watch this.
  15. The fact he came up with the comparison of when he kept Walsall in league 1 a few years back after the Liverpool game is harrowing. Managing Aston Villa. Premier league.
  16. Chatted with my brother about this tonight. Hughton wouldn't be a bad shout at all if we go down.
  17. And he's not got a tune out of them. We all know how this works.
  18. If he says the game changed after the penalty decision. Dean, just.....go.
  19. Club statement tonight please. Give it to delaney for 4 games.
  20. Turning your back Jack !!!! Captain ? Hahahahaha
  21. Probably because it's not the championship. Need more than turning your arse to shield the ball at this level.
  22. Take consolation in the dodgy penalty all we want. We are deservedly behind. Should be 3. If Luiz stays, give him the armband. Only one out there who looks like he cares and been good since Sheffield United. Jack - you are no captain.
