Smashing it at Kamara’s shin was an “accurate pass”. That statistic doesn’t capture that when his passes are bad, they’re very bad.

He wasn’t great and wasn’t obviously atrocious either. - Maybe could have done better with the goal, but it wasn’t his fault. - Decent save from a deflection, if he dealt with it a little odd. - Zero command the box in general. Came and got nowhere near at least once. Looked uncertain about whether he’d come or go at least one other time. There’s nerves there. - He was at fault for completely missing the Rodriguez cross. He misread the flight and we were very lucky not to concede. He was noticeably not head-on with the opposing player when contact was made. He was off by about 2 yards. - Horrible pass to Kamara could have been costly. - At one stage in the first half Emery lost the plot for him hoofing it, presumably because there was a pass on. I didn’t see a clear pass at the time, so I’d no complaints with hoofing it there personally. - Routine enough save to his right-hand corner at 2–1. This is definitely nit picking but he looked awkward getting down to it. I’m not criticizing aesthetics, what I mean is he looked like he had poor enough positioning/reflexes/responses to it. Could just be his style, but to me hinted at something bigger.
  3. Great away win. Kamara very impressive. McGinn imperial. Cash and Digne provided a lot of the attacking threat, a great little adjustment to the formation by Unai. Moussa is absolute quality. Ollie should have had a couple. Promising subs. Olson a worry. Came a few times when he should have stayed back and/or went to no man’s land. Pau deserves time to adapt but still has the turning circle of a medium-sized tectonic plate.
  4. Did he really say “Olson has been the difference” or did I mishear him?
  5. I’ve watched that clip about 400 times in a row, thanks for posting it.
  6. Yeah that's nice but it's his lack of consistency in videos that's the problem.
  7. This week, on VT, Lucas Digne was called one of our worst signings ever.
  8. Mad that Ollie gets a hat-trick and the MOTM was our left back.
  9. I’m not at home and it’s not on Peacock for 24 hours. Feck sake. What sites are good for little rivers these days?
  10. Charles N’Zogbia says hello. If we want to talk about pound for pound, we also need to adjust for our increased revenue. Zog was our highest earner on £60,000 at the time I believe.
  11. Sunk cost. Need to make do with what we have, not make bad decisions based on the past.
  12. He’s a good player but this is another Ings situation. Sell him now and get decent money (say £10m), or wait a year when he’s lost a yard of pace and we end up subsidizing part of his wages while he goes on loan to Stoke. Good player, always put in a shift, very professional. Good business by the club too. Best of luck if you’re off, Lucas.
  13. I don’t think the 2m cancellation fee makes much sense in the combo with an option to buy. People are saying it’s a £6m loan, with £2m cancellation fee if we don’t buy, and the buy price is set at £23m or whatever. Thats the same thing as a £6m+£2m=£8m loan fee and a £23m-£2m=£21m buy option, i.e. the extra two million was already covered by the available options.
  14. And you believed the unconfirmed rumour?!?!

If you really push it and pretend Wolves/West Brom/etc simply don’t exist, there are three or four million people in the AVFC Academy catchment area. So at a real push the academy should catch about 5% of the population of Britain. 5% is 1-in-20. So only looking at Britain as the talent pool, you’d expect something like one squad player to be from our catchment area. Thats before including Europe (Pau, Kamara), South America (Luiz, Emi) and so on. So it would be very unusual if our academy had produced more than a handful of our first team squad. If we want to compete for the top 4, we need a top 4 squad. We can’t have a squad who are bottom-half PL standard, even if that includes some very very good players. We should get used to selling 90-95% of our academy.

Roughly two years’ ticket sales. That’s a lot.

Just to put £15m in perspective, according to our last financial accounts the total revenue from ticket sales (including season holders) is about £16m.
  18. Going further back, I hope this nourishes the West Ham fans romantically.
  19. There’s no way West Ham could replicate Declan’s output with one signing. Instead they have taken the approach of replicating Declan’s output by spreading the transfer fee over three mediocre footballers.
  20. What distance would that be, about 500 miles? Would you walk the 500 miles and then would walk 500 more?
  21. Martinez Cash Konsa Mings Digne Kamara Tielemans McGinn Luiz Buendia Watkins for me at least. Switch sides as you like, but I think that’s the most likely to keep a clean sheet and score. Bringing Diaby on after 60 mins to terrorize tired legs, and Pau and Chambers on for the final few minutes to see the game out.
  22. Buendia to start over Diaby, anyone? He’s been more impressive pre-season. Diaby as a super-sub for the first few weeks?
