  1. This could be an instruction to be fair. A lot of DMs are told to occupy the attention of the opposition strikers/AMs so that their cente halves can push out with the ball. Would make sense because when you take into account the number of passes he attempts per 90 it doesn't suggest it's something he does at club level.
  2. Saw a WhoScored stat that said despite featuring in under 60% of Villa's PL season, nobody in the squad had more total goals and assists than him.
  3. I'd much rather go big on a new #8 rather than a striker personally.
  4. Interesting one, will definitely bow to the more well-informed knowledge of others as I'm working mostly off memory and obviously don't follow City to know better. I just seemed to remember when he signed he was a striker and at the time part of the talk around him was that he was perhaps looking a bit too limited as an all-rounder to work for Pep (similarly to the stuff that used to get labelled at Aguero for a while). Transfermarkt etc have him playing mostly as a striker for Palmeiras too but those numbers can lack context sometimes and as the quote says he might have gradually moved out wide. In any case I think he's versatile enough to play through the middle anyway, particularly in a top(ish) side where you have the leeway to shift players due to having more control of games. Even outside of City, Liverpool have played all of Mane, Jota, Diaz and Firmino as "strikers" and so forth. Not that any of this is particularly relevant as he's not going to be signing for Villa. Could do with a credible link right now to get this thread back on track.
  5. Should at least be given a good chance in pre-season before any talk with certainty that he needs another loan. Most of us thought Ramsey needed another loan before last season but look how much he kicked on when he got an opportunity to prove himself.
  6. Wasn't Jesus more or less exclusively played as a striker basically until this season when Pep starting playing him on the right and folk then started talking about City not having a proper #9? Have found it strange as up until then he seemed quite an old fashioned poacher type.
  7. Not to overhype him but I think he'll be our best ever player.
  8. Most tackles + interceptions of anyone on the pitch right now despite this. He's a player
  9. Jesus to Arsenal seems a no-brainer to me. They've gotten their act together quite a bit in the last year or so and think he'd fill one of the few holes in their starting XI in order to push harder for CL qualification.
  10. Yeah either Luiz or Sanson could play there but like you I just kind of wrote them off given the murmurs about them. I think Sanson actually played in a pivot with Kamara at Marseille so the option would be there for sure.
  11. I love the idea of signing a Sangare sort of player to go alongside Kamara in a 4-2-3-1 as I think that in turn gets the best out of Buendia and Coutinho, it also gives a more balanced way of getting both into a starting XI together but I just can't see that being a shape they go for. Especially as it doesn't suit McGinn. As it stands with the two formations we have been playing I think they're crying out for an 8 who can offer more control in possession and be able to beat a press etc. McGinn and Ramsey have their strengths but their general passing numbers make for rough reading. Kamara is a great start but you don't want to have an over-reliance on him alone to solve it.
  12. Going to start against Austria tonight according to l'Equipe. Looking forward to him misplacing a pass and a portion of Villa fans deciding he's actually shite.
  13. Without sounding overly harsh I feel as though I liked Trez the more he didn't play because he would drive me mad when he did, that dive against Brentford really was the tip of the iceberg. Came up with some big moments to be fair to him and you could never doubt his effort. Think a move to the Turkish league probably suits all parties quite well.
  14. Wouldn't be surprised if a left back happens quite soon given the Targett news.
  15. Gallagher is a fine player but a bit samey to JJ and McGinn in terms of what he doesn't offer, which is any kind of consistent control in possession. Per 90 I think he attempted or completed the least passes of Palace's midfield players and put up similar lowly numbers to our two in that sense. It doesn't really lend itself to being able to manage a game and puts a lot of pressure on Kamara to be able to help build attacks from midfield.
  16. Very fair post, have to be honest I knew he was injury prone but I actually didn't realise how much it's been the case since he ruptured his cruciate a few years ago. Not that it's even a realistic signing but definitely makes it less of a great idea than I initially thought.
  17. I wonder if Corentin Tolisso could be possible at all. He's leaving Bayern on a free and I've not really seen him linked to anywhere yet, but he seems the kind of player that could be an ideal fit were he interested. Very much an 8 but has played as a DM at times previously too, also a good range of passing and comfortable taking the ball from deep so would offer the balance that McGinn/Ramsey don't, as well as being a decent age and used to winning an awful lot. Probably out of Villa's reach but then again I've thought the same of many players we've signed recently. Maybe Digne could have a word.
  18. Once Kamara signed I didn't really see a Bissouma type as a priority to be honest, unless we were to start playing a 4-2-3-1, which while I like the idea of it doesn’t appear to be the case. Despite the clamour for him to play as an 8 he's very much the deepest-lying midfielder for Brighton and generally does the same job that Kamara does except seemingly without the capacity (or responsibility at least) to pass the ball forward. Feel like he'll definitely move and be a good signing for whoever it is but at the same time there's a lot of players our there more suited to Villa's needs
  19. This reminds me of when we got linked to Bentancur, certain people watched him in one game as a result and said he played shite because they didn't want him despite all evidence and unbiased people saying otherwise. Seems like it's only really Marseille fans that were complaining anyway which is understandable if childish all the same. Congrats to him anyway, no easy feat getting a game for this French side and puts in perspective again how well Villa have done even managing to sign him.
  20. I like Traore but this is hugely believable.

    Keinan Davis

Him moving to Forest just suits all parties really. Villa get to move on a player that isn't at the level they're aspiring to get to for a relatively decent fee. Forest get a player that the fans have taken to, fits their style of play (particularly if they can get another decent forward player in to replace the distinctly average Zinkernagel and join him and Brennan Johnson up front) and is more suited to being able to help a side whose aspirations don't extend further beyond just avoiding relegation for now. Davis - injury permitting - gets the opportunity to get some first team minutes in the Premier League for a side that really value him and want to build around him. Even purely on a human level I'd be happy for that move to happen. Really seems a good fit for all.
  22. Can't say I really know much about them but just from the cursory glance I've had over the past couple of hours it seems he's varied the shape between the two seasons. Played a 4-5-1 type of formation and also a sort of asymmetric 4-4-2 that ostensibly becomes a 4-3-3 in practice with at least one of the full backs bombing on. Saw someone on Twitter mention something about their pressing being excellent as well. Seems quite versatile anyway which is what you'd expect given his track record.
  23. Amazingly swift work from Villa on this one. The only real concern I had with Beale leaving was another season with a lack of continuity or at least a possibly disrupted pre-season while this got sorted, but they've really quelled that by not only sorting it immediately by getting someone in that not only would nobody have anticipated but also has an existing relationship with the manager that'll make settling in a lot smoother. Fair play to all involved on this one.
  24. Posted this in the other thread as an outside shout, wasn't expecting us to go and get his boss instead.
