  1. Might well turn out to be meaningless but I found it interesting that we played a 4-2-3-1 in the first half against Walsall. It's something that would suit a few of the attacking players, or at least give more options in terms of the combinations of players that could be used in that area of the pitch.
  2. Considering we've literally signed someone since then I probably would continue to say nothing about it if I were you.
  3. I mean I would obviously sign one regardless if it was up to me. It's not my opinion that it's correct, just saying that the club probably won't be doing it as that is generally the case in football.
  4. What Collomosse tweeted and Gerrard said the other day don't necessarily contradict one another to he fair. I think Gerrard - like all of us - would like an 8 of real quality to come in and potentially take Villa up another level, but it's probably not realistic until some space in the squad is cleared up in that area of the pitch.
  5. Yeah, there were several examples last season of Luiz being dreadfully exposed at times. That's a structural issue that if not addressed isn't solved by simply signing a more defensively adept individual player.
  6. Good move for him. I know folk were talking about Championship moves etc, but it's all about finding the right club where he'll actually be able to play and suit what they do there. Plymouth apparently play good football and will likely be competing at the top end of the table again so it could be a chance for him to really flourish
  7. I just want to know what Lyon fans think about him before I make my mind up.
  8. Not thrilling by any means but a shrewd signing all the same, as back-ups go you'd struggle to do better for a team at Villa's level. Lange signed him previously I believe so you'd imagine this was his handiwork, fills a need in the squad but for relatively small funds so more can be used on a midfielder should it become possible to do so if certain outgoings happen. Good stuff all round.
  9. Yeah, Villareport just does what it says on the tin and aggregates "news". Some of these accounts fall down these weird rabbit holes of trying to do that but then getting in scraps with other fan bases etc and seem to lose sight of what they're actually trying to do. Stressful enough navigating VT at times without following pages like that on social media as well.
  10. Well we have fleetingly, though I myself am also concerned about how lacking it's been since his return from injury. In any case it doesn't really validate your original, quite patronising claim, but that's your prerogative fella.
  11. That bolded bit is amazing There's actual numbers and data that back up him being fast, the only stance reliant solely on "because I say so" is that he isn't.
  12. Mate it's an internet forum, you don't have to treat every point like a life or death situation that you simply can't concede in the most confrontational way possible lol. I've said in this very thread that I found it concerning that he's looked like he was running in quicksand since his return from injury, no debates there. However before then he was - yes - rapid, and it's not really up for debate at all, here's hoping he still has that and it was just the lack of fitness hampering him in his fleeting appearances towards the end of the season. It's too small a sample size to be so confident that he's now wheelchair-bound.
  13. "Bailey is the third fastest sprinter ever recorded in the Bundesliga at 22.62 miles per hour, behind only Alphonso Davies and Achraf Hakimi." lol
  14. I won't believe Usain Bolt is fast until I see him outpace a Premier League full back.
  15. Feel bad for him that he was cursed by Preece. Probably would've played otherwise.
  16. Have a lot of love for Ashley Young and like that he's been kept around for what he can offer to a largely quite inexperienced group of players comparatively, but the idea of him playing much at PL level does worry me a bit. Feels like he has at least one back post scare every game.

  18. Obviously it's nothing to get carried away by as it's a largely innocuous moment in a pre-season game against Walsall, but stuff like Carlos' very first touch in the game is why I'm so hopeful for his signing. Ball played in behind him, running towards his own keeper and he manages to play a reverse pass to KKH that sets him down the wing. Any other CB at the club - or definitely Konsa at least - and that's given back to the keeper, which often in PL games results in it being pressed into being hoofed up the pitch and possession turning over again. Having players like him that have that in their locker is so important to actually be able to wield proper control in games.
  19. If I didn't know better I'd be getting awfully excited by how effortless Traore has looked here lol.
  20. Interesting to see how that takes shape, must be a 4-2-3-1 of sorts? Presume the midfield/attack will look like: Azaz-Nakamba Bailey-Traore-El Ghazi Archer
  21. What a weird one this has been. Liked the signing when we made it, seemed like it had the potential to be a steal given Marseille's asking price was forcibly lowered by the TV deal collapsing in France and the logic at the time of him essentially having a free hit of 6 months to settle in early for the following season made sense. Then despite having no history of injury prone becomes crocked under Smith, struggles to get any kind of rhythm together and by the time he's regularly available again Gerrard is in who obviously doesn't fancy him (in football terms, how could you not otherwise). He's shown glimpses here and there that he could have really offered something but it just seems destined to not work out for whatever reason. It's a shame but if it goes some way to clear some space for a new 8 to come in then so be it.
  22. Rice is excellent. Stunned by how often he gets written off on VT but each to their own.
  23. I think they mentioned Kampl as well. Whatever on the specific players suggested, fully agree with them that a player with that main skillset is exactly what Villa should be targeting in a midfielder. Neither Ramsey nor McGinn do and Kamara can't do it all on his own in midfield.
