  1. I think it's more so the case that because 3 at the back formations don't generally have a DM on paper, the likes of WhoScored, Transfermarkt etc just list players as having played CM when in practice it wasn't necessarily the case. If you look at the average positions from more or less every Lens game Doucoure played in he was the sitting, deepest midfield player for them. Similar to Bissouma's positioning really.
  2. I do think a large issue with the perception of him is that he is for some reason never subbed off despite frequently running himself into the ground in games. He could have a stormer in the first hour of a game, but will be noticeably breathing out of his arse thereafter and for whatever reason remain on the pitch even though his influence has diminished and Villa's control on the midfield subsequently wilts a bit. I can see why managers love him but ironically think it leads to him getting managed a bit carelessly in the process.
  3. Random one that came to my mind but I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see us move for Emre Can, or more to the point I'm surprised we haven't been tenuously linked to him at least. Good age but has lots of experience and versatility, played with Gerrard and in an area of the pitch Villa are apparently looking to add to. Doesn't seem hugely in favour at Dortmund either as he's mostly been used as a kind of utility man this season.
  4. I too would be concerned about Villa's lack of activity were it not for all of the encouraging signings they've already made.
  5. I like Gallagher but I just don't think he provides what we lack in midfield.
  6. If we were only allowed post about signings that are likely to happen then this thread would have about 400 less pages. Lighten up lads, what else am I supposed to do when I'm meant to be working on a Tuesday in June other than hypothesise about Zinchenko possibly being the answer in midfield.
  7. Pep himself describes Zinchenko as a midfielder that he just shifted into left back due to City struggling to have a consistent one + his versatility meaning he could play the role as they require it to be done.
  8. Such a weird one with him last season, players can struggle to settle/adapt and that's just a risk you have to take, but he looked physically shot at times. One thing that was undeniable about him previously was that he was absolutely rapid, but by the time he came back from injury in his fleeting appearances he looked like he was running through treacle. Hopefully a full and more settled pre-season will make a huge difference for him.
  9. Don't really think it's fair at all to say that people only want/like the idea of Zinchenko because he plays for City as if that isn't massively disregarding loads of other context on purpose. He's a quality player.
  10. Funny ain't it. No other side have signed more players than Villa thus far in this window and some folk are moaning about a lack of activity. Great craic.
  11. That's a couple of emojis off of being a Dr. Tony transfer hint tweet.
  12. Would be stunned if Spurs were to sell Hojbjerg, I know they're overflowing in that area of the pitch at the moment but you'd think he'd be one of the last they'd let go. If it's true Villa should be all over that though. Think Zinchenko will turn out to be a shrewd signing for whoever gets him.
  13. I was just joking about all the double pivot chat from a couple of pages back mate.
  14. Unless we were to play a double pivot, which I've not heard anyone mention yet.
  15. Bournemouth on the opening day. Bring back Rudy Gestede STAT.
  16. Being that I'm not English I'm quite pleased with how these couple of weeks have gone for him. Gotten a chance to get a break rather than more games and his reputation has probably grown if anything in the process considering the shambles he missed out on.
  17. Vardy quite significantly so, Dennis as well and most of the others that have significantly outperformed it aren't strikers and are the likes of KDB, Mount, Ward-Prowse, Maddison, Zaha etc who have either been on free kicks or just had a few from outside the box.
  18. Glad this is over with finally. He's obviously a good player but once we signed Kamara I didn't see the point in signing Bissouma also, as unless we were to play a formation we haven't done already they can't exactly play together all that naturally. Could still do with a big signing in midfield of course but I don't think he was the one, not that we were going to get him over Spurs anyway mind.
  19. Calling women tramps and randomly accusing former footballers of being child rapists. My word this thread is crying out for a credible transfer link.
  20. What is the major malfunction with some of you, if I can't get excited about a young striker coming through and scoring goals against the children of Kosovo and Slovenia then what else am I meant to do in the off-season? Some utter joylessness going around. I don't care how unimpressed you were when he played on the wing in the Conference, he's scoring 25 in the Premier League next season. Get on board
