  1. Ball shouldn't make it across the box like that... but it's a stunning finish.
  2. Obviously Arsenal are a better side, but this Lille side were better than us at Villa Park (IMO) and are strong at home. We're going to need to be at our best - again.
  3. FWIW, I don't think that foul carried on into the box. The Bournemouth player was caught outside the box and fell into it.
  4. And even more so because it's Manchester United 2024 version.
  5. Not betting odds. They fluctuate with money hitting the market. They're not based solely on the likelihood of one particular outcome.
  6. The getting through is fine, but playing at the proper big grounds (Old Trafford et al) is where the money is at - especially if the game makes the TV too. It also gives an increased opportunity for lower league players to play at grounds they could only dream of playing at normally. It’s another grim decision in favour of the Premier League - I’m not even massively sure of the logic of it.
  7. Scenes in this thread when Coefficient FC are back on track after a 0-4 Liverpool win, a huge 4-1 win for West Ham and a squeaky bum time 2-2 draw for Villa.
  8. Silva is unlucky the keeper stood… but there’s also no real pace on his penalty. Usually, if you’re going down the middle, it’s either hit with some power or disguised. Silva’s was weirdly neither - the keeper moved slightly to the side that the shot was obviously going to and was able to almost wait out whether he needed to dive or not. It was a poor penalty.
  9. High quality technical stuff, but really not a great game… unless you like your football like chess, in which case sure.
  10. Sure… but which is the best league in the World?
  11. Which is the best league in the World then?
  12. You say been poor, but they defended well. Also hahhahahahaha **** Man City.
  13. As a purist, I’d disagree! I’d much rather Plymouth won. For a Blues relegation battle though…
  14. More specifically the knockout stages, presumably? Group games are largely wank from the small selection I've seen over the years.
  15. Not too sure why the laughing face - but here you go: Separate point at the bottom on a preference that was generally being discussed.
  16. No - I replied saying something like there's no issue with paying attention but the obsessing over it is odd and that we should just focus on finishing 4th. The trophy bit was an additional point as some people have said they'd rather CL football than winning a trophy (and the discussion has largely been around this bit). Obviously it's not either or.
  17. The whole thing has (pretty obviously?) been a discussion on which aspect is more important. There's absolutely nobody saying "I only want to win something" or "I only want to qualify for the CL".
  18. They aren't mutually exclusive - and if we manage to both win the ECL and finish top 4 then it'll be a season that (likely) long lives in the memory. And that's what it's all about, really. On the bold - Leicester City won the Premier League, FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League. By far their biggest moments (granted, only according to the couple of Leicester fans I know) are the trophy wins. Now, winning the Premier League is incredibly special so that's fairly obvious, but the FA Cup win was massive for them too whereas the CL was a novelty - great fun, but basically that. That said, they've basically "completed football" as far as they are concerned; those moments are very, very unlikely to be topped in their lifetimes whereas maybe we're in a better position to be a strong side for more than 1 or 2 seasons.
  19. Look at the side we beat on the weekend - long term CL side, loads of income… and they’ve got maybe 4 FA Cup wins in the last 20ish years to show for it? Edit: and that’s a genuinely big side, competing for things. The CL provides a bit more money and the chance to see Villa play a “big side”. That’s it.
  20. It wasn't just Juve, was it? Didn't Fiorentina get dropped down the leagues? Maybe that was a different Italian football scandal
  21. Would you rather watch Real Madrid at Villa Park, or see Aston Villa lift a trophy is the more accurate analysis. You go for the former, I'd rather the latter.
  22. That's because of the money at the top end of the game meaning sides are able to assemble squads that can compete, comfortably, across multiple competitions. We're one of those clubs currently within the Europa Conference League. That's why it's not as good... ...but seemingly you're also a fan of that because of the drive to win 4th place? I don't get it.
