This. I've seen people quoting our squad size as being large (compared to Evertons) but many are youth products that we've promoted to fill the gaps.

The confidence thing is a real issue. I think our whole squad's confidence is shot to pieces after last season's debacle. KEA/Vlaar/Lowton are the ones who arguably are playing with some assurance. Lambert will need every bit of man management he's got to motivate the players again, especially after the start we've had. Might be best not to add another player who's at a low. Agree with this though it's a hard envirornment for any new player to come into. Chances are any player we buy domestically will be someone not wanted or playing regularly at their existing clubs unless he is lower league. Downing has always struck me as mentally weak TBH.

He needs to look at someone like Joe Allen who is similar size and also good technically. The difference is his decision making and ability to keep it simple. Can Barry learn how how to do this? With the right coaching I think so yes.

Have to say, seeing some guy abusing Matt Lowton's brother on Twitter at the week-end was a low point. I come on VT to talk to like minded fans but find a lot of posters very negative and short sighted. It is a cultural sickness that manifests itself particularly in football and online anonymous behaviour. I still get excited whenever Villa play despite feeling constantly let down when the game actually goes on . 2 wins in all of 2012 is not helping anyone's mood! I think PL will get us moving in the right direction eventually.

Yeah I get that. Pleased with the Vlaar signing but in honesty I've never seen him play (or KEA, Holman and Lowton). Really hope they are as good as we want them to be. I believe in Lambert absolutely but it does appear the shackles are a bit tighter than we might have thought when he joined (or maybe just me). Still 3 weeks of the window left of course so let's see what happens.

Depends how many of the experienced squad members raise their game, whether the kids will come of age and if the new signings can adjust to the Prem. Lots of ifs in there.

We're now seeing the really big wages only going to the very cream at the richest clubs. The disparity within the Premier League between the top earners and the bottom has never been wider. It is now more difficult for average players to command more than around £20k a week. Contracts now 3 years not 5 or 6. Squad sizes being squeezed too. The gravy train is not quite over as the likes of QPR, Stoke and Wet Spam seem willing to keep trying to punch above their weight but it can't last. They will come unstuck.

If you can't see the potential in Bannan then you should probably give up on watching football.
