  1. And for the record, if (and it was rumoured on here once or twice a couple of years back), Joey Barton ever signs for this club, that will be me out. He is a mark one nasty word removed who contributes **** all for the game for any of the teams he alleges to have played for. He is c**tish word removed of the highest order. He's had more chances than a game of Monopoly and the game will be well rid of the little word removed when he is finally withdrawn from service. Mark 1 Shitbag. <and breathe>
  2. I thought the loan to buy on Bent was only if Palace stay up? I saw that on BBC Sport website 'Gossip' section, so could be utter felgacarp.
  3. I dated a Citeh supporting girl for a while and I managed to get her to wear a Villa top for me. One of the best nights I have had ever... When I first met my wife, she supported Leicester City, and we still look out for their result to this day. She had a season ticket with me between 2002 and 2005 until other family commitments got in the way. She is looking to get back into coming to the game with our daughter in tow too, which would be great. Always nice to go to the game and have a social bar meal somewhere - we liked to go to The Church Tavern in Perry Barr. Sometimes we'd arrive early and watch the players arriving. That all said, going to the football is a bit of an ordeal and other than going for a pre-match bar meal, I'd just turn up, savor the atmosphere and get out as quick as you can and enjoy the rest of your day doing something else. Even let her choose a rom-com or something... Hope you guys have fun... (Ohhhh, the memories of Miss Manchester... in a Villa top...)
  4. You wouldn't have been able to ask that anyway in England any more. It is deemed sexist and derogatory to any females in the immediate vicinity. Otherwise, a good question as I know what it is you meant :-)
  5. I so want this transfer to come to fruition... For two main reasons... i) we may get sushi on the menu at the Villa Park catering outlets (not that I like sushi, but I am all for variety) ii) I just want to scream 'Banzai' at the top of my voice when he makes a killer pass. Sorry - sensible shoes back on... I hadn't heard of this guy until I saw the speculation earlier this summer on here so I still have no idea if he is any good or not. If Paul rates him, I'll trust his judgement and welcome him here.
  6. Thats why they win **** all Or you could turn it around and say that's why they are consistently playing in the Champions League, a competition which Bent has never featured in. It's a good point Pie. I was talking to a Gooner at work this morning and comments about how all of a sudden they are in the race to spend 40m on Suarez and why they would go for somebody like that. He was vehement in stating that a lot of Gooners would not want a disruptive player like Suarez in their team, but the main resonance here is that Arsenal can spend that much money again now after a few years of 'only' finishing 4th and getting ECL football and paying off their new stadium costs. All of a sudden, despite winning nothing, but still playing football at the highest of high tables, they can spend big again if they need to. Certainly, in for better players than our DB9 (or whatever number he is given this season). It'll be someone like Newcastle, Fulham or maybe even Narrich (sic) or Swansea that would get him. My bet will be that Fulham will be the suitors that suit him best. Suits you sir... Oooh...
  7. To be fair - Harry Redknapp certainly didn't rate him and did him no favours at all with the comparison of a certain family member. Curiously, such a comparison would now be banned at Anfield if what is being stated today is true. How can the term 'Man Up' be deemed offensive? Show me a woman (or girl) who is offended by the use of the phrase 'Man Up' by football fans commenting on a male player and I will tell her to **** right off back to her sewing and washing. First it's that 'everyday sexism' bullshit that gets trotted out about the 'male only membership' of a Golf course used in a recent high profile golf tournament - why shouldn't men be allowed their own private golf club? There are female only gymnasiums...female only waiting rooms on some railway stations... you can have girls in the boy scouts, but not the other way round etc. Girls can play in the boys teams, but not the other way round. It's all one way traffic. Then there is the bint harping on about getting a woman on the back of a bank note (whoopy **** do) and then being surprised at the abuse she got on twitter (admittely nasty, but that's how twitter is), now a list of phrases that MUST NOT be tolerated in the football stand. 'Man Up?' FFS. Do you know what, let's fight world poverty and serious crime instead of nitpicking and henpecking eh? Find something constructive to do instead of outlawing the phrase 'Man Up...' HUMBUG. <Edit - should maybe post this in the 'Things That Annoy Me But Shouldn't Thread'> And, I am a dwindling member of society who still uses the word 'gay' in it's traditional context. So I do not expect to be fingered out of Villa Park or Anfield for using the word. Rant over.
  8. Good retort TJ... Anybody other than the Sky 4 getting top 4 keeps the league alive - IMO, whoever that may be (barring Coventry vermin and SHA). Of course, the league would be even more exciting if all 20 clubs could compete, but that is a utopia far away from here. Though it probably upset you at the time, I was quite happy for Arsenal to win the league to break the Man U monopoly. Football is tribal and experiences through life help form opinions and emotions. I have still never forgiven Leeds United for beating us on TV one Sunday afternoon in October (ish) 1991 (4-1) and as such, the best day of my life (up until I got married) was seeing us beat them 3-0 at Wembley in the League Cup Final 1996. Likewise, my despise for Chelsea stems from a 3-1 home defeat we suffered at the start of the 1992-3 season. I really hate them... and their fans... For a variety of reasons. I am older now and slightly more mature, so getting beat 4-0 on Boxing Day by your lot was gutting at the time, but we've moved on. Never had a problem with Spurs and a couple of my good friends in life are Spurs. There are good Spurs fans and bad ones... same as Villa, same as Blues (yes... there are some good ones), Baggies, Scousers, even Mancs. There are NO good Chelsea fans - in my opinion. A shit arse club with shit arse fans. Scumbags. I'm surprised John Terry hasn't been seen in his Chelsea shirt holding the Wimbledon men's singles trophy. Anyway, whoever gets Benteke will have a very good player. I don't really care where he goes, so long as it is dealt with quickly, and for a fee that does not leave my Club feeling bullied and robbed. At the end of the day, if he stays, he stays. We'll move on until this time next year. The Benteke Bereavement Curve - I am at acceptance.
  9. spurs have a very good first 11, the problem with benteke is he could still be a one season wonder. Papis cisse last season a good example. To be fair Cisse was a half-season wonder, like Jelavic. And Papis Cisse has identified NUFC as the 'infidel' as part of some sort of shirt sponsorship hokum.
  10. Every single Villa PL match is already shown live (in English) in the Mid East, so there should be plenty of good streams or the games. It annoys me that they have access to that in the Middle East but not in the UK. Madness, fans over here would love to have that! True enough to a degree - but, the Middle East doesn't have Villa Park in it (yet). We get to go to the actual games - if we want. Personally, as a ST holder who has to make time for the family at times (!!), I'd like to have access to streams (legal and above board) for away games. I might even consider paying a small fee. Sick to death of watching Manchester derbies and the 'big exciting' 'Champions' Sunday' Sky 4 wankfests. I'm only really interested in the Villa - the rest of the league is just... meh. Couldn't give a flying fook.
  11. That's shit that is... ;-)
  12. Where's Dave Whelan when you want him?
  13. Spurs, if they are willing to give them to us as part of a deal. Any deal for a player will be a bad one for us, it means there's something wrong with them. Learn from the Ireland fiasco. And Jenas... and Hutton...
  14. dont know where these people are getting their opinions from It's all part of the London Media conspiracy theory to get CB to Spurs, Chelski or Goonshow for peanuts. Drive down the player's value by pretending that his efforts and achievements last season never actually happened. The USA do the same with history through their Hollywood films.
  15. Yap yap yap yap, I should coco guvner... Chas or Dave? yap yap yap. Cam orn you Hotspurs...
  16. Us fans have a valuation on the player (somewhere between 20m and 50m given the last few pages). The club obviously has a valuation too, but I do not know what that is. At what point does CB begin to whine and complain about AVFC blocking his move to a bigger club by demanding an OTT fee? Who intervenes? Is it the PFA? European Court of 'Asylum Seeker' Terror Sympathisers? Or nobody as we are within our rights? dodgyknees - if what you have written comes to fruition, I will turn green and rip my shirt. It will confirm everything I have heard and experienced with cockerney clubs. EDIT - just saw the post above about the deadline. Sounds like a plan BA.
  17. South Park taught me that Canada aren't even a real country anyway... Sorry... welcome aboard. I would really like to visit Canada. Big country with lots of adventures possible it seems. In fact, I could quite easily up sticks and move there from what I have seen and heard.
  18. Growing up where I did it was generally either Leicester City, Coventry or one of the other glory clubs that have fitted the bill down the years. My dad had always been a big football fan, but other than Nuneaton Borough (Nuneaton Town now), he generally used to follow individual players though he ended up at Bloomfield Road quite a bit to watch Mathews. Villa though had always been a popular place for him to go. My older brother had picked Villa and when I was really small, and my dad used to take him a lot in mid/late 70s and very early eighties. I remember seeing various player/team posters (all Villa) on his bedroom wall. Names like Rimmer, Mortimer, Little, Shaw, Gray, Withe... all sounded magical and my brother was quite proud when I was able to out a name to the faces on his posters. I'd always associated myself with Villa from then on, loving the name, loving the colours and really growing into the history of the club as a I got older and showed even more interest. I'd seen Villa a few times on the TV as a small kid and can just about remember the European Cup Final against Bayern on TV. My first real game at Villa Park was a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in 1985. My dad bought be a 'follow me to Aston Villa' car sign that I actually put up in my bedroom instead and I also got a Villa bomber jacket. Yay... We were sitting in the North Stand Upper, and we did see some crowd trouble. I believe Kevin Poole played in goal and we had Didier Six playing. I recall Lee Chapman and Imre Varadi mentioned for Wednesday (was Howard Wilkinson their manager at the time) on the back of the match day program. From then, my attendance was pretty patchy until I was old enough to go down with my few Villa supporting friends. Then there was Uni, though I saw some great games during those times. I fell lucky with a crowd of fellow supporting friends at Uni, which was nice. But following the League Cup Run of 1995/96 with a student budget was difficult and I ended up £5 overdrawn by the end of May 1996 in my final year. Not a bad job... That day at Wembley was real dreamland. The perfect Wembley performance. First Season Ticket from 2000. Suffered ever since ;-)
  19. There is a long way to go before the season starts and potentially more comings and goings. But I think we have the potential to be 10th and above. I do worry about the impact of our start and I have said in another thread that we could (that's 'could') be pointless up to the start of October. Over the course of the season, I do believe we will (that's 'will') be okay. Being positive here, it is in our gift to finish 10th and higher. Just how high depends on the improvements of our established squaddies and how well the noobs are blooded. I'd love another good cup run. I mean... if Swansea and Wigan can do it... I am expecting a shaky start (this ol' house etc) but I am confident we will have a much better season overall.
  20. Yup. It's a disgrace the way FIFA, UEFA and the FA have allowed it to get to the point where you know exactly who's going to finish in the top 4 places. Yes, couldn't agree more Crackpot, and it's the wider fanbase that suffers most. When the gravy train finishes and if Scotland is anything to go by, it will one day, surprises will begin to happen again. I mean, who, ten years ago thought that Rangers would have been relegated and 2nd spot totally up for grabs in the SPL? Very bizarre circumstances I will admit, but it is a portent of what could happen here when Sky pull the plug. Saddens me to see that Hearts (my Scottish team*) could go the same way at the 'Gers. *They play in claret and when I was at Primary School and collecting Panini stickers, the badge was second only to the mighty Villa. Platini - word removed.
  21. And you can just imagine it all being said in a Chas and Dave type 'yap yap yap yap, 'ees an 'appy cockerney, guv'nor etc' type patter. Stroll on Tottingham.
  22. Obviously, it would have to be a lavish, CIVIC reception for him at VP if he signs... All aboard...
  23. How's about a chant for Luna, our new left back, courtesy of Duran Duran (New Moon On Monday)... 'Last time La Luna, I light my torch and wave it for the New moon on Monday, and our GLORY through the night. We ARE the Holte End, and the Villa never die...' Work in progress... just a thought though. Over to you pros...
  24. Well, we have a chant for him at least... courtesy of Duran Duran (New Moon On Monday)... 'Last time La Luna, I light my torch and wave it for the New moon on Monday, and our GLORY through the night. We ARE the Holte End, and the Villa never die...' Work in progress... just a thought though. We really missed a trick when we had Fernando Nelson - why we never sung that Abba song I will never know. ;-)
