I think it's very difficult to judge strikers in the modern game. There are very few "old school" strikers who are the absolute focal point of the team these days e.g. Kane, Vardy. I think a good example of a modern striker is someone like Firmino who brings an awful lot to the team despite any obvious stats to the table in terms of goals and assists.
I'd imagine that anyone playing fantasy fotball this year will feel the same based on the striking options in the Premier League!
So, if you believe what you read in the press, we could be on the cusp of signing three players for a combined total of £65m.
You wait all day for a bus, then three come at once.
What a great post.
If we'd signed Tammy when we got promoted for £28m I think we'd have all been delighted. Just because Watkins hasn't been snapped up by Chelsea in his early years doesn't mean that this is any less of a great signing based on his record last year. I really really hope we give him a chance because there's an awful lot of pressure on this lad's shoulders.
I'm sure you know more about him than I do but I've not seen him as injury prone thus far?
He missed 12 Prem games last season, 3 in the season before, 5 before that, 2 before that and 7 in his first Prem season. I'd argue Grealish is more injury prone than him!
Callum WIlson - Prem Apps - 126. Goals - 41.
Josh King - Prem Apps - 161. Goals 48.
Whilst you're correct in that Wilson has a better goals per game record, he very rarely played every game of the season for whatever reason (form, various injuries). Josh King on the other hand also played from the wing and featured in over 30 games in each season except the last.
I think if you're relying on a player to play week in, week out King is the better choice.
According to our good friend Percy, we’ve launched a £16m bid for Josh King so I suppose it makes sense to open a post.

I actually prefer King to Wilson. Whenever I’ve watched him he’s looked like he has more to his all round game than Wilson and I think he’d be a good signing at the sub £20m mark providing we bring in further competition (e.g. Watkins).
That being said, the idea does lack a little creativity doesn’t it? “Oh, Wilson didnt want to join us... who else y’got?”.
I've seen Brewster play once. In the Charity Shield (or whatever it's called now) and he came on, did nothing, then missed a penalty in the shootout.
Can anyone tell me if he's actually any good?
I wasn't crazy about the idea but for £17m that would actually be a great bit of business. WAY better than anything else we have available to us currently.
It can't hurt having a keeper who has trained with (and played 96 times internationally with some of) the players on the list below:
Messi, Dybala, Aguero, Di Maria, Higuain, Mascherano, Tevez, Rashford, Pogba, Martial etc.
We already have a striker of that ilk unfortunately.
I think Watkins will be our only striker signed this summer because we won’t want to impact big Wes too much both in terms of confidence and also to protect our investment in him. We’ve got four senior strikers battling for one spot.
This is a textbook characteristic of a low block. If the full backs drop in close to the centre backs, it forces the opposition to play wide where they are statistically less likely to cause problems.
This does however result in wingers seemingly being left with a lot of space.
I'd not seen Screwdriver's posts before but they are the usual miserable posts I'm used to seeing from some.
It also appears that he stopped posting right as we kicked on and started turning in some good performances. It's almost as if some people revel in the misery sometimes!
