  1. It's pretty interesting. Few things I agree with, 1) Home Ownership, the state fuelled push to get people to buy homes, giving tax breaks to developers, interest relief to first time buyers etc.. I've never bought into the idea I must own a home and have had to defend my reluctance to buy a home many times during the years before the bust. Buying a first home is one of the most important things a person is going to undertake in their lives and people were doing it whimsically, fuelled by some banks 100% mortgages. The belief that if you didn't buy now you'd have to pay 10% more next year or 21% if you waited 2 years. The words property ladder. I remember explaining that no housing boom with price inflation of the scale we had in Ireland will have a "soft landing" no, it is always a bubble. I'm happy that I managed to convince a friend not to buy a home a few years ago with his now ex girlfriend. 2) Debt, people indebting themselves. People who live permanently on credit, who keep buying things even if they are in debt. People who feel the need to spend, on clothes or the newest gadgets etc.. But I have had the same PC since 2002 and it keeps breaking and rather than buy I new one I keep repairing it, so I'm not someone who spends money on things. I have no debt and have never had a loan. But certainly this over consumerism has been and still is a problem. But it's the cycle that is required, if people stop spending on things we don't need we'll enter recession again and jobs will go in the retail sector. Though I am certainly no Marxist, I do believe Capitalism is the best option of the many we've had in history. But I'd have plenty of social aspects, like free medical care & free education including 3rd level with no private aspects of either permitted. There is nothing more disgusting than profiting from the ill health of others and there should be no financial boundaries on any child attend any level of education. Armed with these two rights people have as level a playing field as possible when finding work.

    Do you read?

I only read history books. Probably the only no history book I've read was Paul McGraths book and Nick Masons Pink Floyd book.
  3. That is nothing but a mix of opinion and wishful thinking there is very little to support such predictions. They may well prove to be they may not but you certainly can't proclaim the future of England at this stage to do so is quite daft. But those players can quite adequatly fill the roles of Davies, Shorey, Heskey, Sidwell etc.. players who were squad or surplus need to be shipped out and their places taken with young talent. We also free up wages for signings in positions where we need players like a striker.
  4. Davies and Shorey played what 2 each for us last season ? So getting money and replacing with youth is a perfectly good idea, especially if we get Keane with the money we get from their sales. Young will be sold and a replacement younger right back will be purchased, Onouha possibly. The players we are selling are ones who do not play, we are using the money to buy players who will play. It makes perfect sense.
  5. How much cash do you think they would give us as part of the deal ? We'd need to be giving cash I'd say. Proven Premier League goal scorer, better goal scorer than has graced Villa park in over a decade. We'll need to give them a few mil
  6. Davies is just unfortunate that Collins has turned out to be so good. Davies is talented and young so he has a lot value, we need money and more importantly to free up wages so it makes sense to ley him go. We don't need 5 Centre Backs.
  7. No it makes perfect sense. Dunne for 8mil in June or 5mil in August? Martin holds out knowing they will not keep a player they don't want and will have to accept what we offer in the end.
  8. Ok just made a seriously tasty prawn salad from what I had in my fridge, so here we go. 2 red birds eye chilli's finely chopped 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped 12 Sugarsnap peas cut in half Some Rocket (could use spinach) 1 Lemon 200g cooked prawns (tails on) 6 Cherry tomatos, halved Some fresh basil Olive oil salt and pepper to taste. Ok start by washing the rocket. Then put a good glug of the oil in a frying pan over a medium low heat, add the chopped garlic and chilli and fry for 30 sec Add the sugar snap peas and fry for 2-3 mins Add the prawns and stir to coat in the oil Now great some of the lemon zest into the pan and add a little salt and pepper. Now tear the basil, mix with the rocket and put in a serving bowl, squeeze over 1/4 of the lemon juice. When the prawns are heated through (a couple of mins) Add the cherry tomatos to the frying pan and the juice of half the lemon, stir for 30 seconds and turn off the heat. Pour the contents of the pan onto the rocket & basil and place the last wedge of lemon in the bowl for squeezing over while eating. Then tuck in. That was seriously tasty and so quick to make I had to share it. The key is obviously the freshness of the ingredients and the quality of the cooked prawns. Don't use frozen prawns or prawns perserved in any liquid.

    Top Gear

    I'd agree with the above.
  10. 4 inch super AMOLED. Yes please, I was wondering what would make you sell a desire. I see it's that screen. Lovely As for swype. Checka few pages back for the code link don put up.
  11. Can't understand the need for a slide out qwerty keyboard since I found swype so would have no interest in the galaxy s. It's unnecessary bulk imo. But other than that the phone looks good piece of kit.
  12. I still like killing all running apps with my task killer widget. Screen brightness is the key to battery life imo. I am usually 60% and Locale reduced the bightness as my battery hits 50% 30% 15% and 5%.
  13. Download advanced task killer. That will help you kill tasks that are running in the background and help battery life. Also get locale. See above. It will help you conserve battery life too by turning off things and lowering brightness as the battery dies. Also set default screen brightness to about 70% and turn automatic adjust off. Put it on manual.
  14. I got an email from swype to download the latest beta version. This version works for the higher resolution screen on my x10 and the difference is remarkable. I thought it impossible to improve on swype but it has. I love this product and am happy to give these guys my hard earned cash one they release a full version.
  15. Yep, but the amount of my pay rise would have to relative to how beaten with the ugly stick she was. I'd probably draw the line somewhere with an absolute chunker. Also conditional on nobody finnding out either. But if she was in anyway decent I'd have no problems at all.

    Global Warming

You are also forgetting that the British Government doesn't control the world and scientists from many other countries have come to the same conclusion. Indipendent of what British Government want people to believe.
  17. CVByrne

    Global Warming

Problem with government in my country is they didn't want our money and kept cutting tax for almost two decades and help **** our country up in the process. Governments are more concerned with being reelected than with over taxation.

    Global Warming

You may have read alot on the subject MMFy but it's not something I am overly concerned about. So am totally indifferent to the subject really. I just believe that to get almost all of the worlds government to accept that Global Warming is to some degree man made is enough for a mathematician like me. You'd probably be best served trying to convince politicians of your views as they are the decision makers.
  19. CVByrne

    Global Warming

That is what you believe MMFy. I however having no particular expertiese in the area of global warming will defer to the experts. It is quite likely that their is sufficient evidence of man made effects of global warming, enough to convince the governments of the world. That is enough for me and I don't really bother myself with it much. Infact this thread is about as much of my time spent a year on the subject.
  20. CVByrne

    Global Warming

I think this thread is pointless. Nobody is going to have their opinions changed. Anyone can quote an article to support their case etc.. it's been done. The point is it doesn't matter what peoples opinions on the matter are, the worlds governments are convinced and hence greenhouse gas emissions are being tackled. The End.
  21. CVByrne

    Global Warming

I think an important thing in all this is we can't afford to be wrong about this. So that's why we need to just accept what world governments are doing to tackle it, even if you are skeptical.
  22. CVByrne

    Global Warming

Man made factors play a part but it's not 100% down to us. But by reducing our greenhouse emissions we can reduce our part in global warming. The sun though, we can't do much to change that.

  24. Well first thing you should do is get swype. Well download barcode scanner from the market and then use it on the swype barcode posted a few pages back in this thread. I'd also get advanced task killer too. Locale is another must have app.
