  1. If we can't get Jokanovic now, then I'd be happy for Big Sam to come in until the end of the season. Might suit him not having to commit long term.
  2. Agreed. If Xia thought this was just a blip, then he'd have tweeted his support. "It's just one game" "Long way to go", etc.
  3. If we appoint Moyes then we deserve everything we get. It would show a complete lack of imagination and prove that they (the board) haven't learnt from their mistakes. Xia still has lots of goodwill right now, but if he keeps messing up the major decisions this won't last long.
  4. In terms of the squad we've got (I.e. A Steve Bruce squad), Sam Allardyce might be the best choice out there. If we go for someone like Jokanovic we'll need another overhaul next summer imo.
  5. Quite possible. He is the only constant at the club in the past 7 years.
  6. A good coach/manager would improve individual players, and I honestly can't think of a single player that has benefitted from Steve Bruce's 'coaching'. Even Sherwood managed to get a tune out of Grealish in the Premier League. It's not working. Bruce has had his time and the game has moved on. We need our football people (Steve Round) to find the next Wagner and have some imagination.
  7. I voted other. I'd love to see what Jokanovic could do at Villa. He's a modern, forward thinking manager with a track record of success in this league, and he's happy to bring through young players.
  8. I'm not someone that is happy to chop and change managers every few months, but I can honestly say that I've seen nothing in the past 10 months to suggest we are improving under Bruce. The majority of his (January) signings have been average at best. Its too soon to judge summer signings I think. There is no way I can see Steve Bruce getting us promoted to the Premier League. A good manager would make a significant difference to a team within 10 months. We appointed Bruce because he seemed like the best candidate to get us promoted quickly. This isn't going to happen. We need to find someone that is capable of achieving success in the short and the longer term. I would be doing all I could to get Jokanovic from Fulham if I was the Dr.
  9. No, in effect it renews every day. At any given moment it always has 12 months remaining.
  10. Bruce is on a rolling 12 month contract, so it always has 12 months remaining - we'd owe him 1 years salary if we sacked him (around £2m I guess).
  11. Nixon must have some contacts at Villa because he was first with the news of us signing Amavi, Veretout, Ayew and Terry, from memory. He is definitely one of the more reliable journalists.
  12. It's from Alan Nixon. He broke the John Terry to Villa story a few weeks ago, so I'd say it's probably true. would be a good move for all involved I would say.
  13. Breaking News from The Sun. JOHN TERRY is on the verge of signing a £60,000-week deal to join Aston Villa. Terry is ready to reject bigger offers to stay in the Premier League in favour of trying to help Steve Bruce’s side challenge for promotion. PA:PRESS ASSOCIATION John Terry left Chelsea after leading the Blues to a fifth Premier League title The former Chelsea captain has spoken to Swansea, Bournemouth and West Brom since quitting Stamford Bridge at the end of last season. And he was also handed a lucrative chance to end his career in the Chinese Super League with Tianjin Quanjian on £10million-year. But Sunsport understands it is the challenge of trying to help Villa back to the Premier League that is exciting the 36-year-old. Villa are prepared to offer him a basic package worth £3m for the year, with a £2n bonus if he helps them to promotion. There are further add-ins depending on the number of games he plays as Bruce looks to mount a serious challenge in the Championship next season. A source said: "He has not signed the deal yet, but it looks like it has all been agreed. "It's a new challenge for John. He has had plenty of offers from around the world." INSTAGRAM@JOHNTERRY.26 John Terry with Steve and Alex Bruce It is believed he was talked into the move after a round of golf with Bruce in Portugal earlier this month. The pair held talks about his future over a game at the Quinta do Lago resort. Villa owner Doctor Tony Xia has come up with a package for Terry to lure him to the Championship.
  14. Going with Dr X's heart metaphor from the other day, I see this as JT has chosen heart (us) over more money (Blues) and will sign soon.
  15. Or....working with JT on a daily basis massively helps develop Baker (and some of other young defenders)
  16. From the Irish Sun. GLENN WHELAN’S near- decade-long stay at Stoke City is set to end. SunSport has learned that Aston Villa are confident of landing the Ireland midfielder following Darren Fletcher’s move to the Britannia, although Burnley are keen. ACTION IMAGES Glenn Whelan is set to end his near-decade long spell at Stoke Whelan, 33, joined the Potters from Sheffield Wednesday in January 2008 and immediately helped the club win promotion to the top flight. At the end of that season, he made his international debut, against Serbia, in Giovanni Trapattoni’s first game in charge. He has since amassed 80 caps, breaking Gordon Banks’ record of 36 international appearances while at the club. But he was one of several players dropped by Martin O’Neill after the 3-0 defeat to Belgium at Euro 2016 and is no longer a guaranteed starter when the side is at full strength. Aston Villa are confident of landing the Ireland ace with Burnley also interested For Stoke, he has clocked up 337 appearances, scoring eight times, playing in both an FA Cup final and in the Europa League. Although Whelan has a year left on his contract, the arrival of Fletcher means he is less likely to be a regular. As a result, Villa have entered negotiations with Stoke about a fee while Whelan could expect a two-year deal to try to help them win promotion. Burnley — who can offer him the chance to stay in the Premier League — have not yet spoken to Stoke. At Villa Park, he would link up with fellow Ireland midfielder Conor Hourihane while Burnley have Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick, Stephen Ward and new cap Kevin Long on their books.
  17. Considering the amount of injuries we've got, I think it was a decent effort tonight. Could and should have been 2-0 up at H/T. I'm hopeful that we'll be top 6 next season.
  18. We'll have 3 right backs next season then. Not unbalanced at all!
  19. Ridiculous ban, it's not like he punched the linesman. A 4 game ban would be more than fair.
  20. Hutton has appeared in enough games to trigger an extension in his contact according to Steve Bruce
  21. I think this thread should be renamed "New Manager : 2017 Part 1" because we'll have probably got through 3/4 managers by the end of the year.
  22. A big problem for me is that we still don't have any leaders. We've signed 'captains' from other teams, but no one takes responsibility. We haven't got a single player that 'shouts and balls' instructions to his team mates. Where is our Martin Laursen type figure? All of our defenders are just too 'nicey nicey'. We need a real leader at the back with a bit of nastiness. Our own 'John Terry' type figure (and I'm not suggesting that we should sign John Terry!).
  23. £5m for Ashley Westwood! What a deal for Villa. Unbelievable.
  24. Brentford have accepted offer from Aston Villa for striker Scott Hogan. Doesn't mean they'll get him, player hoped for Premier League move From Dean Jones on Twitter
