    Unai Emery

I couldn’t believe Keown’s comments regarding Emery. He was obviously trying to reset the culture after Wenger and should have been given time. Just becuase you don’t agree with something, doesn’t mean it is wrong. Thinking that Emery had something to do with Purslow’s departure is ridiculous, comes across as a personal vendetta by Keown.
  2. You may be right. I thought the Lange accepting a new role was a rumour and also seen West Spam interested in him, so would be interested to see where he lands.
  3. Surprised by this, but then not so surprised. The rumours have been that Emery was given control of footballing decisions and wanting his own Director of Football to deal with the overall plan. The appointment of Heck would have further diminished Purslow’s role and with the new business model, he didn’t want to take a role as a figurehead CEO. It raises questions over the future of Johan Lange though, with a new DOF most likely coming in, his own role will be diminished, or does some of Purslow’s role around FFP etc come under his purview? Purslow did a very good job and should be thanked for it. I don’t think appointing Gerrard led to this, I believe the club has finally grown up and to be a worldwide brand, you need experienced people to deliver this goal. We finally have real football people back in charge of the club and Purslow will be remembered for his positive impact on the club returning to its historical place in English football.
  4. That’s my concern as well. It happens to footballers, even Mings had had a poor run with injuries before he was loaned to us in the Championship, but has been good with Villa. But if we get an injury prone Coutinho, what’s the point?
  5. My first reaction to this was please NO! This is what Emery does though, the player has always been talented and may be able to do a job for the team if true… the jury is out though.
  6. Just woke up to get ready to watch the CL final to see this bit of good news. Very happy with the signing, he offers something a little different with his ability to break defences with key passes in games. Emery will get the very best out of him.
  7. Maybe you should reread my posts, I said there were numerous reasons, one being the lack of money for transfers.
  8. Your right, im not a fan of him myself, just not going to use comments of Leicester supporters who are still crying over the spilt milk of relegation.
  9. I just don’t think fans see what coaches do when it comes to playing style and ability. Stats only reflect the outcome, they don’t take into account other important factors that affect performance.
  10. Are you really using that as evidence? I could cut and paste over a hundred of similar comments of Luiz, McGinn, Mings etc from this site, doesn’t make them true.
  11. Well I could sit on the bench at Chelski and collect medals and have a better CV, doesn’t mean I’m a good footballer.
  12. Eh, I only need to look at the transfer market to see what’s happened at the club. There’s also the story of the manager giving a list of players to the club and going on holidays last season and signing none of them. Its not rocket science.
  13. Neither Drinkwater or Barkley have the CV’s of Tielemans nor are they of the same quality. People can say what they wish, but unless they have intimate knowledge of the club and the inner workings which 99.9% of fans don’t have, it’s all here say and gossip. Its up to the Manager.
  14. If that was true it would be reflective of his whole career, not a season where the club was relegated. The whole evidence shows a player who was a regular starter for a Belgium team which was ranked No 1 in the world for 4 years straight, played regularly in European competition and won an FA. Cup and Community Shield. The club sold their best players the last 4 seasons and never replaced them, the club turned off the tap, didn’t sign the players the manager wanted, but the blame rests with Tielemans? If he comes to the club, Emery will get the best out of the player again and Villa will benefit as a club.
  15. I respect your opinion, but what I have seen of him there’s a player there, the question is whether his time has passed or whether it can be resurrected. Let’s see what happens.
  16. I know mate, but many supporters were, Luiz also.
  17. It was also nonsense that 12 months ago most people were thinking McGinn wasn’t good enough to take us forward to the Top 6-7. His form for the club for the previous 12 months hadn’t been great. Sometimes perspective and opportunity is required.
  18. I said he upgrades our squad, which he does. Tielemans at his best is still an upgrade on both Ramsey and McGinn, the question is whether he still has his best football in front of him and will Emery make him a better player as with the rest of our squad? Ill leave it to the Manager if this is a target player for the club.
  19. Tielemans is a quality player who’s had a poor season in a poor team. He instantly upgrades our squad in the midfield if he joins. He’s played consistently in Europe and won Cups in England. Leicester being on the decline for the past 18 months just may be the reason why his and others form has been poor. If Emery wants him, I’m not going to argue given his history with these players.
  20. Maybe, but Newcastle have CL football and their manager has never coached at that level and believe Emery has his number.Spurs still don’t have a coach and no money, no guarantee Poch makes Chelsea a Top 4 team again. I believe we can compete against Manure and Chelsea, even Liverpool, it’s whether we can be consistent against them during the whole season. These will be the challenges and why our recruitment is so important.
  21. I want to see who we bring in before making a prediction of where we will finish. If we bring in the right players we can definitely compete for that 4th to 7th position.
  22. The only way he's getting picked to start in a Premier League Top 8 team is if Southgate's the manager.
  23. That’s the conclusion I come to as well, but AM have stated consistently they want their money back. Time will tell whether they are willing to cut their losses.
  24. The problem for AM is they overpaid for a player who has potential, that doesn’t suit their playing style and who the manager doesn’t want. Reports are they have offered to PSG who said no earlier in the week and Newcastle. They are trying to unload him, whether as a transfer or a free, what happens after all the big CL clubs say no? AM may have to be more realistic, or make a huge loss on a free in a few years. Not saying it will be us, but we know Emery is a fan.
  25. But CL football isn’t what he has been saying or he would have stayed at Real. He wants to be the main man and wants to start, something neither PSG nor Real can offer.
