  2. My mate's Dad used to run an antiques shop, and often tells tales of his run ins with "the orange skinned man from Blackpool". Your Nan is spot on, as far as I've heard.
  3. Not for me, thanks. I can respect they had more than a little song writing talent though.
  4. Saw Television tonight at The Sage, in Gateshead. Amazing. Richard Lloyd is no longer with them, but Jimmy Rip is a more than able replacement. It's an obvious pick, but Marquee Moon was immense.
  5. If you're talking about the most perfect pop song of all time, then it's a straight fight out between, Heatwave - Martha & The Vandellas, and Another Girl Another Planet - The Only Ones.
  6. RE the perfect single, Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane is pretty damn special. I mentioned Paperback Writer / Rain earlier. I'd be tempted to say to say We Can Work It Out, but I think Stevie Wonder did a better version, so gonna rule it out.
  7. Lennon was the most despicable of them all. A wifebeater who sang about Peace and Love Yeah, I said in an earlier post what a word removed I thought he was. He just comes across as sarcastic, bitter bully. Given your stance you may not have seen it, but even in the film, Help, he comes across that way.
  8. There are a lot of bands I would say mean more to me, and that I probably like more, but I think it's the familiarity of their music, and the fact that there's so much of it, that sets them apart for me. I do think Sgt Peppers is overrated. Still a good album (it's got a A Day In The Life on it after all), but overrated. '66 is my favourite Beatles year. They still all wanted to be in the band and were friends, they released Revolver (which is awesome) and the Paperback Writer / Rain single, and Ringo's drumming on all of these recordings was stella. As for the McCartney backlash, I think it's mostly down to what a knob he's become. Apart from Ringo, I think they were all pretty horrible people sometimes. George was quite an angry and bitter person, but because he was quiet people thought he was laid back.
  9. "Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant sh*t to me..." Hunk of Burning Love is a tune though.
  10. That song writes it's self... "Baby on Board, something something Burt Ward..."
  11. Awaiting the arrival of Bickster (I can see he's viewing right now).... Personally I love The Beatles. If ever there's a band I turn to, to cheer me up, it's them. They've written some mind blowing wonderful music, and a Hell of a lot of it as it goes. They've also written some dog shit. Revolver is a nailed on top 10 album of mine (the other 9 would change on a daily basis). These days McCartney has a lot to answer for, and Lennon was a selfish word removed, but when they were together magic happened. Add George to that (who actually wrote most of my favourite Beatles songs), and you've got a music making machine. Ringo is obviously considered a joke, but in my opinion he was no slouch either (not as a song writer, granted).
  12. I love that song because the defiance of the prisoners in the audience always lifts my spirits. The prison albums are among Cash's best work, and I think that's partly due to the atmosphere. I'm not gonna get into the wrongs and rights of the American criminal justice system, but a lot of the prisoners were serving ridiculously long sentences in respect to their crimes. Cash and his songs for the down trodden and hopeless, gave them a brief moment where they could just be normal men again, and forget about being institutionalised for a couple of hours. It must have been an amazing feeling for them.
  13. Had this stuck in my head, since I watched Pointless, and it was an answer to one of the questions.
  14. Music From Big Pink by The Band. One of my favourites.
  15. I can see BT Sport going the way of ITV Sport, Setanta etc. A Hell lot of money to pay to show a competition that only 4 or 5 British clubs play in. I'd not pay to watch the Champions League, if my club weren't in it (not bloody likely any time soon mind!). Especially when you can watch most games on a dodgy stream these days.
  16. You'd have took that at kick off. Not a vintage display, but a win is a win, and a clean sheet.
