  3. It is possible such a massive deal was agreed/sanctioned/in place a week or so earlier (whilst MON was still at the club). I don't understand why this is so hard for some to understand. Yes, The General hasn't told us this was the case though, so we've left the question - but please don't enter debate with other posters in this thread. Ta. The Mods
  4. General, Could the club submit a written request to Birmingham City Council for an answer to the points rationally put by by villan_avfc and terrytini, in this thread above? Unless the Council’s answer is logical enough to be publicly available, may I suggest our club appeal against the Council's lack of impartiality? I'm sure there is a place for recourse to their uneven-handedness. I’m not denying the rules as they stand, just questioning the Council’s prejudice in enforcing penalties. Does our club genuinely believe the Council provides a ‘level playing field’ when it would appear to all others that the Council enjoys ‘taking the piss’?
  5. League games against them have to be at midday on Police instruction. Why would a league cup game be different? Do the reasons for a midday kick-off magically disappear? :?
  6. They don't. We've been joint winners for the last two seasons.
  7. Heard the same (about 30 years ago!), except the last child says in a 'mongy'* voice "Why am I called Anvil?". * not a word I would use now.
  8. For decades some 'nick-names' have been used with venom and hatred so it's no wonder why they are now classed as derogatory. I'd imagine that if everyone who spoke my actual name did so with hatred in their voice, I'd eventually hate my own name as a word! Other 'nick-names' have been used with neutrality or even warmth and tend to be still acceptable. I have no idea where 'Lebo' sits in this though!
  9. Honestly, I fear the day when the Sty might overtake us in attendances. So you use a statement that the sty had half the attendance of Villa Park for a similar match, as a reason to fear that they might overtake our attendances? :?
  10. Yup. It's a lack of professionalism, really. Don't call a press conference until it's all ready. If you have to, release a statement saying there are still negotiations going on and you'll say more in due course. It would have been a pain to have to wait, but at least it wouldn't be this mess. Either way there would still be some that said "WTF is going on" whilst most accept that everything will be sorted in the near future.
  11. I NEVER think that anyone on VillaTalk who has questions doesn't support our club. I do however think that the current circumstance will be sorted out amicably in the near future, without detriment to the club and without need for concern. There is no spin involved in realising there is a massive gap between an ideal scenario and 'ridiculous'.
  12. Doubts about what? A new assistant, who we may or may not be familiar with, will be appointed and will do a decent to excellent job. I almost live for Villa and I’m not at all concerned about this matter. Join me, you’ll enjoy life more and live longer! I wouldn't worry about the way this has all been handled. Most things in life are complicated and never as straight forward as we think, or would wish. Let the media run with their negatives and persistent worst case scenarios. By Christmas it will all be forgotten and Asda have already rearranged their aisles!
  13. Why would anyone get excited about a first, fourth or fortieth assistant? What questions are important to you in this regard?
  14. I'm not saying an assistant is unimportant but I did not realise how much importance some people put on a number 2. I read that MON was quite 'hands-off' and left the majority of coaching to his two assistants. Do we know that GH is like that? Do we know that GH won't cope with a month or so (which is outside of the transfer window) of 'hands-on coaching'. He won't be short of existing Villa staff who are able to help out at some level. It would appear that GH has not got his favourite first choice assistants but with all the contacts and experience GH has, I find it hard to believe GH doesn't know of a couple of other more than capable candidates. Good things come to those who wait.
  15. Where has that been said ? if this is the case,i dont think GH gave this job enough thought,i mean Thompson now the very man that worked with GH for years.something just doesnt seem right to me. Reading fran_villa's last post and all the fuss over the 7th-12th issue makes me think people are making something over very little. 'Mountains out of mole hills' as I read earlier on the thread. say what you like, but thats how it seems to me..fair enough,if you're happy thats grand by me i just think its turning into a bit of a farce..the company that Randy paid money to bring in GH should have known what lay ahead with this.. I never said I was 'happy', just that it's no big deal. It doesn't surpise me that GH was head and shoulders above anyone else willing or available. The fact that GH is very willing but not readily available for a week or three shouldn't detract from this. An assistant will be found in time. It means KMac takes charge at Stoke and GH works harder for a few weeks until he finds his assistant, so what. I don't see it as the big issue you do. :| I'm also shocked that anyone familiar with the British media is suckered in by the likes of the Daily Mail shit stirring.

  17. General, I'm sure the board and its advisors worked very hard in the process of securing a new manager. Avoiding a flavour of the month name (who were likely to be unavailable anyway), I believe the board made the correct decision in setting out a criteria of requirements. Knowing what most of the factors would be it comes as no surprise to most of us that Mr Houllier got the job. I wish him every success in taking our club forward. He is a very privileged man.
  18. Coincidentally, both have exactly a 25% loss record. Where GH does better is a win record of 50% against MON's 40%. Since 3 points for a win was introduced, too many draws have cost us on numerous occasions.
  19. Meet your new boss. and his new objective. I have two questions for you: 1) Where does 7th to 12th appear as an objective for GH? 2) Why do you appear to hate GH so much?
  20. Clicky To be fair to PT he could have taken a big wage from Villa and tried to 'blag it' for a year or two by arriving at BH at 9:30, leaving at 13:00, not watching future opponents or following up scout reports and demanding a driver for his commute. He obviously know's GH would not accept less than 100% commitment and has admitted he's not in a position to do that. That's honest and suits me.
  21. How will we know? Many decent players who cost a fair bit of money are not available or even interested in a January move. If your question is related to is Randy still willing to spend 'big' on Villa, I don't think we'll find out for certain until 1/9/11.
  22. Yes was always very tactically astute. Thanks for your opinion.
  23. Geniune question (not to make a point, I just don't know the answer): In peoples opinions, is Houllier likely to make tactical changes during a match? I don't mean going a second goal down after 60 minutes and then throwing on 3 subs just to try something different, I mean something like spotting our fullback getting beat too many times and changing the formation and or player(s) to sort it out. The reason I ask is, despite supporting MON whilst he was with us, I did get frustrated at the lack of a 'plan B'.
