    'A shed load'

I've just seen the poll. How can I vote for both as 'shed load' can mean both? Context is the key!

    'A shed load'

Are you sure? :? I think I understand Paddy's post more than yours! Where did the crack come from? I've re-read the OP and bickster's reply covers both meanings: 1) losing a load 2) a large volume of something (perhaps enough to fill a (garden) shed). Confusingly a lorry which has lost a large volume of something could be said to have 'shed a shed load'!

    'A shed load'

To 'shed' something is to part with something. For example, when a snake sheds it's skin. The load, of whatever, has parted from the lorry so the load is 'shed'. It is therefore a 'shed load'.
  4. General, I hope your health is good or at least continues to improve. I also hope that Randy is proud of his decision to approve the great value tickets for tonights game. A decision vindicated and enjoyed by 31,874 fans this evening.
  5. Motorised yes. Anything else? You're trying to apply reason to someone who got the graveyard shift at McDonalds. They care as much about you being fed as they do about how much gob they put in the secret sauce. In that case I would love to try a drive through in one of those kids battery powered motorised jeeps that sell for a few hundred quid every Christmas. If that's what made their Big Mac special sauce 'special', I must have sampled lot's of various DNAs over the years! Still, I don't surpose it's much worse than most food outlets and restaurants. What the mind doesn't know (for sure), the stomach will enjoy.
  6. Ooooh don't get me started on that!! Does it have to be a car/van? What about a motorbike? Will they serve you on a bicycle? How about a kids pedal car? If they will only serve people operating powered vehicles, what about a powered wheelchair or a kids battery powered car? Has anyone tried a sit on lawnmower? Too many questions and not enough vehicles to test their policy with. Damn.
  7. Similar for me. As I have not watched Laursen and Dunne every week throughout their careers, I can only vote on their performances in a Villa shirt. If I had to vote now, my answer would be Laursen. To date, Laursen has had the greater number of 'great' games compared to Dunne. However, Dunne has only been with us for 6 months of one season! As Dunne is only 30, I believe Dunne has the potential to surpass Laursen's Villa performances by the end of next season. I'll vote then. :winkold:
  8. General, I do not wish to belittle the issues of handful of fans who have complained on this thread in recent days, however, can you confirm you are not going to lump all Villa fans into a group who appear to be ungrateful, impatient and love to moan? I guessed there might be some issues with thousands of fans all trying to buy tickets immediately they were available so, even as a season card holder, I haven't tried yet. I have faith in the ticket office's ability to save a suitable amount of each category tickets for my choice when my K5 purchasing opportunity arises. I'm disappointed that a few fans have decided not to trust that the system will eventually get them a ticket and instead chosen to complain. Please don't let it get you down. I'm sure 99% of us remain grateful to all those who work hard at the club.
  9. Eek out one more season?! :? Dunne is 30 not 35 and I didn't know he was struggling with a long term injury. I would hope to see another 2 or 3 good seasons out of Dunne.
  10. General, I really hope your test results were good news and that your recent absence is purely down to a much earned break. I also hope you managed to watch our men in action on Monday night. A 'decent' result from an excellent performance. Above all, the commitment witnessed was outstanding. Lee, I would recommend you check the following link: Villa's next open training session
  11. General I appreciate your opinion but strongly disagree. Watching Carew hold the ball up does not compare to Paul Merson scoring a late minute winner out of the blue on a Monday night at Goodison Park, or watching Beni Carbone rip Leeds United to pieces in a FA Cup tie. It is just not exciting - yes it is good play, but not exciting. Like I said before, you will always get your 30,000 odd people at Villa Park whether you have Harewood or Messi. However, along with success, exciting players will sell those extra seats and shirts, whether you think it is " totally sad " or not. General, I remember very well the Merson and Carbone incidents referenced above by YorkshireCoop. I also remember just as exciting moments provided by our current players. I remember Ashley Young's last second winner at Goodison last season and Gabby's late winner against a local team at the sty. Do you think a few fans have grown too familiar with the exciting players that are already at our club? Is this a marketing issue and/or an indictment of people taking familiar things for granted? In my opinion, just because they have developed into, rather than being signed as an 'exciting player', it doesn't mean they're not exciting! Yes you just picked out exciting goals - but these players are not Merson's or Carbone's. Gabby's goal at the sty was fantastic and one of my best moments in the last few years as a travelling supporter, but he is far from the ticket selling/shirt selling exciting player that we are discussing, IMO of course. General, It might help some fans if Gabby was signed as a young Brazilian who was one of the fastest players in the world and likely to get into double figures for league goals in a season. Or, if Young was signed as Spanish international who had one of the best goal assist records in La Liga. I understand YorkshireCoop's point to an extent and perhaps improved marketing of our players would help put some more ‘bums on seats’. I just think it's a shame if we need to sign 'star name' players to generate interest in the club whilst not appreciating the excitement of the players that have developed with us. I do believe if star names that will fit into our team are available, MON will sign them. In the meantime let's appreciate what we've got and spread the word on how good some of our talent is. Don’t let me down Villa!

  13. General, With reference to AVFC-Prideofbrum's post above and the potential spare capacity available at some of our 'non-glamour' games: My season ticket holding 12 year old son received an offer in the post from Villa last season - bring a friend to two specified games for £5 each game. He loved being able to invite a friend, we had room in the car for one more, the parent paid (good value for an afternoon's 'babysitting'!), and the Villa got nearly £20 (the lad paid for food and drink) they would otherwise have been without. Everybody wins! I hope Nicky Keye and her team are considering similar (the same would be nice!) offers for this season. I hope this doesn't read like asking for 'something for nothing'. I believe it makes good business sense and gets more fans into Villa Park as well.
  14. But it is about the players ability to represent a team of the noughties, not most amount of games played.
  15. Leaving aside the emotional attachment to Mellberg (battling attitude, hating the in-bred scum, celebrating the 5-1 when subbed etc.), this question is VERY close for me. Still deciding...
  16. Congratulations and thank you for your contribution on behalf of our club. It might not always appear so, but it is appreciated.
  17. General, I've just got home after a 14 hour shift at work and a 3 hour drive. After saying hello to my wife and kids, the first thing I did was check VillaTalk and what do I find? Free tickets for my family to go to the Cardiff game! Please thank Randy and the relevant club staff on my behalf. I'm genuinely pleased my support is appreciated by the club. Oh and while your at it, thank Randy for the transfer cash! Here's to a quicker recovery and your swift return to Villa Park!
  18. You can see the results on the 1st September, when people KNOW the situation and have made their mind up whether the two players you referenced have been replaced and indeed, whether it matters.
  19. General Do you put Randy in this category? Is he getting frustrated with things? Do you think the General would have written this if it included Randy? I believe the General was making the point that Randy's ownership is more than a flash in a pan.
  20. Went for a 9. Health - I have just turned 40 and managed to get my BMI down to a respectable 25. I drink about two or three times a week, one of which is usually enough to give me a slight hangover  , although at least I don't smoke. I don't yet suffer any day to day aches like back pain etc., although did get a few bad headaches after a heavy month or two at work recently. 8 Love life - even after 18 years my wife still excites me, we talk loads, are best friends, she never nags and is a fellow ST holder! Still ‘make an effort’ for each other and have some very exciting nights. I am addicted. 9.5 Family and friends - Wife and I have a very good balance between being partners and parents. Son and daughter get on with each other, are mostly well behaved, doing okay at school, although they are fast approaching the dreaded teens. Being honest, my parents and in-laws all have minor traits I don't like. Still regularly see best mate for 31 years. 8 Money - still have to work for a living although I'm about £200 per month better off since my tracker mortgage went down to 1.24% . Wife earns well but still gets to do the ‘school runs’ on most days. Neither of us are ‘spendaholics’ and not big shoppers, gamblers or pub goers. Enjoy one or two take-aways/meals out per week/month respectively. Detached house in a decent area, although my once new car now needs an MOT. 8 Job - been at the same company for 22 years and had a position for the last 10 years which is quite varied. 95% of work colleagues are decent people, which I suspect is quite high. Work from home a day or two per week which is great flexibility for deliveries etc. Occasionally need to work nights or stop away for a night or two which I don’t enjoy. Pay is above national average. 8
  21. That's VERY surprising! 67.9% v 32.1% according to $kysports.
