  1. we don't score from corners because we don't usually get it on collins's head. when it does happen, collins usually doesn't get it on target. when he does get it on target, he usually doesn't get it past the keeper. Here's an interpretation of villa's crossing: hit it at the first man, hope it goes out for a corner so we can try to aim for collins' head. Here's an interpretation of villa's freekicks: float the ball in the general direction of collins, and expect to see a different result to the one we usually get from corners.
  2. Gaby is going through what Bent was. When a ball played up to him, he's constantly being fouled, nobody to flick headers on to and the midfield being to far away to support. We can't expect his form to be brilliant given the circumstances.
  3. Given - 5, not much to do, not much he could about the goal Hutton - 4 Played like he had earlier in the season, poor Collins - 6 Played well, just needs to be more determined to win the ball rather than convincing the ref he's being fouled Baker - 6 Did his job well enough Lichaj - 6 Another good game Bannan - 5 Not effective enough on the wing, and dare say not effective enough per se. Herd - 6 Played well, but needs to be looking for the ball more as Ireland does Ireland - 7 Played well for most of the game, always looking for the ball, although passing quality seemed to drop off during the latter stages of the 2nd half. Warnock - 6 Played well defensively, but not effective enough going forward Weimann - 7 Superb goal, merson style. Lots of effort put in throughout the match Agbonlahor - 6 Just scrapes a 6, he needs better players around him to get the most out of him. Stoke made sure he couldn't get any time, fouled him a lot, and our midfield were usually too far away to support. N'zogbia - 4 Waste of time. Would liked to have seen Carruthers come on instead Gardner - 5 Didnt really make much of an impression. Didnt need to charge Pennant in the back. Heskey - 5 Didnt have time to do much. Could have been used more today due to the game being physical Usual story, but can't expect too much with so many inexperienced players, and 2 players playing out of position. However, still getting the same results as the experienced players did though. With Dean giving us next to nothing, a point is better than none. We need to more determined to keep possession. We'll have a better chance of getting 3 from Bolton.
  4. Exactly. Talk is cheap. Don't let ourselves get fooled again by this sort of talk. Whether Eck is the manager or not, the buck stops totally with Randy this summer, he has no choice but spend a decent amount of money.
  5. You're absolutely right. However the club does care what the fans PAY though. It doesn't matter how anyone tries to twist it with emotional nonsense, the bottom line is if you enter villa park and/or pay for anything, you're supporting what the club offers and how its run as a whole. They can afford to ignore you when you pay, they can't afford to ignore you when you don't pay. Simples. The idea of boycotting a chosen game makes more sense than throwing a tantrum protest. However, if the club believe you're just going to do it once, they'll be likely to just ignore it. The old saying is vote with your feet.
  6. I had a chat with my friend who's a Rangers fan about Eck, and he said exactly what you have. Eck has doesn't do long term plans.
  7. I agree. Although, imo, we haven't had a decent shirt that not only looked good but fit well since the Reebok '95 shirt. I did expect Nike to do a much better job than Hummel, but they weren't much better.
  8. Nike, who messed us around, simply don't value us enough. Otherwise they would have offered us a good deal. Its strange how some fans are still happy to sing Nike's praises though
  9. An error is something that when recognised is corrected. What is it when, once recognised, it is decided that it won't be corrected?
  10. Im sure the board have figured it all in the cost cutting. sweet
  11. Albrighton, Hutton should be put on crossing practice all week. How many times do they have to keeping hitting the first man?
  12. It's pretty easy to see the board had forced MON's hand and were trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Any fan who has put faith in the Villa board or ever will do since this debacle is wet behind the ears.
  13. Gaby was superb when he came on. He created his own chance and stuck it away really well. Something Bent could do if he didn't suffer from cant-be-arsed-itis. Great solo effort from Clarke, really pleased for him. I think he thought there was more to football than just hoofing the ball out of defence. Albrighton did a good job keeping 2 of their players busy marking him throughout the game, and a well taken goal. The goal conceded sums up the mental attitude that's creeps into the team and costs us in many games, too much pissing around and being lazy. Warnock's lack of confidence made him play poorly this game, and there's no real reason for him to not feel confident.
  14. Blimey, somebody with the sense to actually take people on. Result? a goal. amazing
  15. If it's not too much to ask, can Bent make an effort do a little of what Gaby does?
  16. lol. I'd say we should be capable of putting out a team to win comfortably. I wouldn't be surprised if Rovers frustrate any team we put out though
  17. It's short for the endlessly asked rhetorical question of him "what the 'eck?"
  18. It looked like Herd was trying to pull his leg away from Olsson rather than a stamp. There was no reaction from Olsson either
