  1. Mind Over Mirrors - Bellowing Sun Double album of trippy, electronic and acoustic soundscapey soundtrack (there are vocals) to an art exhibition at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art Wish I'd seem the exhibition tbh, this was just a random purchase a few years ago but it is most excellent and something I come back to quite regularly.
  2. Well I can’t vote out my council for another 3 years since they changed to a 4 year cycle (and did away with a directly elected mayor - because you know, the last but one was corrupt). In Liverpool everyone hates the local press as much as they hate the council. We’ve had corrupt councillors for years, corrupt council staff for years, because it’s Labour, the unions have far too much influence (and I'm not talking about in relation to staff pay and conditions) and the council is in special measures. Most people moan about the council, yet they vote the same morons in every single time - the problem being, there’s no-one else they want either. The LibDems are the opposition and the last time they were in control, the last leader was convicted of perjury and the one before was forced to resign for plotting to get rid of he chief exec (he was rewarded with a seat in the House of Lords). That leaves the Greens and the Liberals (yes we have them as well as the LibDems) neither of which are going to make great strides any time soon. There are no Tories, they are extinct. We’ve even had attempts at Indie candidates, they are usually people previously associated with corruption somewhere or other. On the other hand, I think Steve Rotherham, the Metro Mayor is doing a decent job, so voted for him to serve again. But anyway back to the point. Nobody asked the people what they wanted the combined authority to be responsible for, they asked he councils and true to local form, they elected to keep a lot of their powers because… well they got to keep their little fiefdoms
  3. Every metro mayor is different because it depends on what deal your local authorities came to with the government when the combined authority was set up. Just as an example of that (and how f***ing stupidly this was set up) - ULEZ type zones…. Greater Manchester - combined authority responsibility, One giant area, one fee per day Merseyside - no we're not giving our power away, Six councils, Six fees per day (neither of which are currently in force but that’s what the outcome will be)
  4. It’s hilarious. Two entire countries didn’t vote yesterday Lots of large metropolitan councils on 4 year cycles did not vote yesterday apart from for mayors and PCCs which are notoriously low turnouts It’s just an insane thing to extrapolate from yesterday’s data
  5. I pointed this out up thread
  6. I prefer an EDL if I'm going minimal items
  7. Its a f***ing stupid half measure because no party wants to reform county boundaries. If you have a Police and Crime Commissioner, its because you don't have a devolved reginal mayoralty or if you do, the mayoralty is split across different police forces areas Take the Liverpool City Region... we have a PCC for Merseyside because... when they made the Liverpool City Region, they added the Borough of Halton (Runcorn / Widnes) to the county of Merseyside to form the region. The problem with that is, Halton is in Cheshire so the Metro Mayor can't have responsibility for Cheshire Police because most of it doesn't even land on his patch Across the Way in Manchester because the Greater Manchester Mayor is responsible for Greater Manchester alone and that has a Police Force of its own, the Metro Mayor (Burnham) is the de facto PCC. You only get them where that isn't the case. Its a half way measure clusterpork. If a Metro Mayor can do the job, having someone do an itty bitty bit of the metro Mayors role because the Metro Mayor can't because you know crossed boundaries then its not really a job is it.
  8. A bunch of posts have been removed from this topic because they were essentially about yesterdays elections. Those posts are about yesterdays elections and not the subject of this topic. Please keep this thread about Israel, Gaza and Iran. There are plenty of topics to discuss yesterdays elections, please do so in those topics.
  9. Aside from the council elections, this thread is worthy of your time on the figures that Badenoch presented to the house. It's not just inflation adjusted, which you can see below but also the gold illusion where gold is entering and leaving the UK much more than before and those figures are counted in the import / export figures.
  10. You say potatoe I say potato
  11. Yep, we have similar with some of our staff too. They elect to be zero hours for very similar reasons. The vast majority of our staff are full time but some choose not to be for a whole variety of reasons.
  12. Has anyone told him he's very potentially wrong? Emergency proxy votes for no ID are only allowable in certain circumstances Electoral Commission Specifically his ID must have been lost / Stolen / Damaged since 5pm six working days ago It is a criminal offence to lie on the form

  14. Kling Klang - The Esthetik of Destruction Much sought after Mersey Krautrock inspired experimentalists. This is actually a compilation of singles released long after the fact by Rock Action. A Ltd edition of 500. Obscure as hell. Obviously inspired by Kraftwerk, Neu! And Philip Glass
  15. Sounds like he’s taking the toe jam out of his shoes
