  1. Delph stands out head and shoulders above the rest of our midfielders, and I find the others a rather unexciting, uninspiring lot. El Ahmadi shows occasional flashes, but that's it. Now I may be missing something, but I think they are really only good squad players, and we really need to spend decent money on an attacking mid and a defensive mid.
  2. I had thought he was going to be a really good player, but when he went through that bad spell, I thought he was going to be one of those players that shows promise but does not fulfill it. Really glad to see that he has come good again, and hopefully he can keep on playing the way he is now.
  3. I wish our guys would learn to whip in corners. The most dangerous corner on Saturday was a mis-hit from one of their guys which caused chaos just in front of our keeper.
  4. We do seem to be becoming a long ball team, and becoming more so with every game. And it will be the same when Benteke returns. Cannot remember the stats, but the ball retention from long balls to strikers, for all clubs, not just ours, is quite low. The game on Saturday, I may be wrong, looked the worst so far for long balls from our keeper.
  5. I have always thought that Kozak was bought as a back up for Benteke for just this eventually, not a replacement. I just hope I was correct. To be fair to Kozak, it is early days, and he is at least a useful additional to the squad.
  6. Delph was easily our best player today. I thought Agbonlahor, Bacuna and Clark were decent. Would the second half perhaps have been a good time to switch to three at the back to give Bacuna and Luna a chance to get forward?
  7. I agree with this, but for this particular situation I would still rather have him than Bowery.
  8. Hate to do this to you, but I will never be convinced that Darren Bent would not be a better option hanging about the penalty area than Jordan Bowery. Especially since we are presumably still paying a hefty slice of his salary.
  9. It is pretty obvious that Benteke has only ever seen us as a stepping to the big boys of the premiership. Whereas he may well want to play for his country.
  10. Several people, including at least one journalist and Schmeichal on MOTD2 pointing out that Bacuna ran straight to Lambert after his goal. Lambert really does have their hearts.
  11. He really is turnng into the player we thought we had bought years ago. His energy and determination is great, he is maintaining a high standard of performance, and he may well get even better.
  12. Despite all their possession and creative play in the first half, City's goals were not anything great, especially the first. As for our offside goal, swings and roundabouts, some decisions have already gone against us this season. After we equalised the second time, i thought they looked bereft of ideas, though I was still half expecting a late sucker punch. And United beaten and in 12th!!! My day is complete.
  13. How the hell did that happen. Comprehensively outplayed but won!!!
  14. Agreed. Think the entire team was picked with City in mind.
  15. Not right now. Is he worth giving game time in regards to career development? Yes. Know what you mean, but Given is an excellent nr.2, also on a big salary and possibly with us for a few more years. Would it have been better for Steer to continue his development on loan at a lower league club?
  16. Is Jed Steer better than Shay Given?
  17. I like Lambert, though he has not yet proven himself as a manager, and I also think Lerner is a decent enough owner, well-meaning but prone to mistakes, perhaps gullible or naive. However, I think from next season we need to be spending more on a better level of player. It is, after all, possible to buy better, if more expensive, `young and hungry' players.
  18. I am a strong believer in loaning out our young players to battle-harden them. All the `big' teams do it.
  19. Very much in agreement with this. The timing could have been much worse. And this will show if we really are a one man team, because if this is the case it will have to be addressed next summer. No way of knowing if this is the case without testing it over several actual games. For what it is worth, I have always thought Kozak was back up for Benteke and not his replacement. However, Kozak has his chance now.
  20. Thought Lowton was excellent last season, but seems to have lost confidence this season. Perhaps it is the arrival of Bacuna, although Bacuna is not a dedicated right back. Lowton was nailed on to start every game last season, barring injury, but something has definitely knocked him back.
  21. This is the one signing that baffled me at the time and still does. His stats at the time of buying were not great, and I have seen nothing yet to suggest that he is good enough for the Premiership. Do not want to be unfair on him as he puts in plenty of effort and hopefully he might be able to forge a decent career in the lower divisions.
  22. He was terrific in the Nextgen. And no matter about the score, just to get on the Villa Park pitch for the first team must have been fantastic for him, as it would be for any young player. As has been said above, it is what they strive to achieve and probably a moment that will stay with him for a long time.
  23. This was the signing I was most excited about.
