  1. He played for the Lions against Bangladesh the other day. Ah thanks for that - cheers ! I wondered if he was on some sort of international duty. Warks have certainly missed him. My T20 tickets have just come so hope he is back for them.
  2. Was spared this humiliation 'cos was riding a time trial in Nottinghamshire so couldnt go. Did an appalling time in the race and then got back to this ! So a great day all round. Does anyone know what has happened to Chris Woakes ?
  3. cost them KP. also the British Empire does have its benefits when it comes to English cricket. Thorpe Is that Graham Thorpe ? I thought he was English borne and bred; am I wrong ? Graham Hick would have been a good example for the Worcs supporter(s) - assuming there are more than one of them
  4. Snowy ! Were you the bloke who thought that the invention of the wheel was just a passing phase. I too am a "proper" cricket man (member @ Warks) but even I can see T20 is bringing a new dimension to the game which may eventually translate into "proper" cricket. Example: yesterday Broad took a blinding catch on the boundary and was fully aware of where his feet were so he did not over-step(and he is pretty tall so quite an athletic feat)Cant see the guys from days of yore fielding like this. Do you think the limited over game (John Player League etc) brought something new to the game?
  5. Anyone see that "Acorns" Villa shirt in the crowd againt pakistan ? Worn by a lady I think. Good victory for England (even though there were no Warwickshire players )
  6. Yeah good win today - Ian Bell seems in good form. Does anyone agree that Warks might have a problem bowling sides out? I know hindsight is wonderful but I wonder if they should have gone for Matthew Hoggard; I reckon he might have come to us rather than Leics.
  7. 382 all out and they were 3 - 0 when the umpires took 'em off for bad light - a strange decision we thought. Woakes was superb and excellent support from Neil Carter. He (Chris Woakes) HAS to play for England soon. Yep the diet of 20/20's etc isnt good for a looming Ashes series is it but 20/20 seems to be the way of things - members have to book their seats now. Didnt I see that they were going to take the(20/20) game to the USA ? PS It wasnt Woakes maiden century but was his highest score
  8. Well as the footie season draws to a nerve-jangling finale, some of us will be turning our attention to cricket. So.... was anyone else at the Warwickshire bomb site this afternoon to see Chris Woakes hit his maiden century (I think it was his first anyway)? I gave up a days bike training to go an see the Bears with missus and it was a good afternoon for Warks. Any thoughts on Englands' Test Matches etc or is the football World Cup going to dominate ?

    Running

Was out on training ride this morning - 40 damp miles with cape on to try to shed some weight - and rode past a place called Catton Park. This is between Tamworth and Burton on Trent and a nice area - very rural. They have signs up advertising the Catton Park 10K on May 1st I think; just wondered if you blokes were interested or whether you all knew about it anyway.
  10. Although I work in a YOI that contains some of the nastiest scum it is possible to encounter, I am no expert on criminal law (i am not a prison officer btw) However, If Venables has a 'life licence' I think that any transgression of that can lead him back to serve the rest of a 'life' sentence. I wonder if I might comment on conditions in a YOI (the one where I work anyway). In an article referenced by snowychap, the author claimed that prisons in Scotland were harsh (or something like that). Where I work there a 3 categories:- Basic, Standard and Enhanced. prisoners can progress to Enhanced based on their behaviour. An Enhanced prisoner has his own TV in his cell and can have Playstation if he can afford it; also his own curtains and bits like that. There are no computers, thus no internet and no Sky tv, as is sometimes suggested in the press. Personally, I reckon that the regime is too easy and suggest that many of them would spend all day watching tv and playing on a playstation if the were on the out ! Whether the above is suitable punishment for murderers and rapists I will leave you to decide.

That Tough Guy thing starts on Perton Ridge just the other side of Wolverhampton. We usually go out training that way - and I thought we were mad. Jeez Yillan -that is a high resting pulse; daft as it seems you could be tired; think that ups the rate. This is not meant to start some sort of competition(or try to be clever) but for what it is worth mine is about 55 on a good day and I am 60+ . Have you got a pulse meter, can be very useful as has been said many times in this thread I think?
  12. The manager of Oasis goes int othe dressing room and finds the drummer and bass player fighting on the floor. "What's going on" he demands. Bass player says " that drummer has de-tuned one of my strings"! Manager says, "Well that shouldnt be a problem - cant you fix it "? "No" says bass player, " he wont tell me which one it was" !
  13. [quote="Chindie That would be unethical and indeed, illegal I believe. Useless scum? What constitutes useless scum?

    Running

I find this 'running' thread really interesting- even tho' I ride a bike. Agree on the carbo loading - how long does a 10k take(roughly) 50mins for an average runner? I wouldnt load for a 25 mile time trial(which takes me anything between 59mins and 63mins depending on the conditions (this is crap I might say). In fact a breakfast of perhaps malt bread and coffee is probably all you need 'cos you need to digest the stuff. But for a longer ride of say 3 hours like today, I start to get the knock after about 2 hours so need summat then. Do you take food for a 3 hour training run ? That Fradley 10k will be pretty flat wont it?

    Running

Yep good tip on the trainers - cheers. Have some Nike Air Pegasus, are they any good ? As wife comes from Stoke on Trent, I was weighing-up going to a shop called Bourne Sport who I think do some sort of fitting service; know anything about them ? I think my problem with running stems from the fact that cycling shortens the leg muscles an running lengthens them. Does that ring a bell with anyone ?

    Running

Dont know much about running but... think some of it depends how old you are. do you go eyeballs out in the 10k runs or can you talk to each other ? In bike racing , I might do a recovery ride on Monday after racing on Sunday. Supposed to get rid of lactic acid etc; if you use a pulse meter that should tell you if you are recovered or not I think. Do you go out Saturday AND Sunday or Saturday OR Sunday ? I wish I could start running 'cos I know it is good - but it hurts my legs too much !
  17. Funny you should say that 'cos that is what I have found - Latin can help with any of the 'Romance' languages. Are declensions easier than conjugations tho' ? Now where is that Latin Primer !! Does anyone still study Latin at school I wonder.
  18. French, a tiny bit of Spanish but am fluent in 'Dog'.

    Do you read?

Could I recommend a book that would satisfy the Sci Fi fans and Mr Mooneys interest in dystopian(love that word) settings. Try "Neuromancer" William Gibson. Was going to read a bit more this afternoon but have done 67 miles on bike @ 17.3 average and cant lift it up now !
  20. Could we have "Front Woman" ? In which case - Dolly Parton !
  21. An interesting list and I cast my vote. However a note of censure; number 58 - "Mr Blue Sky" is allegedly about Trevor Francis's dog ! Please delete immediately.
